She supposed that was one of the main difficulties of being a superhero – the schedule was always so ridiculously erratic that she couldn’t get together with the people that mattered most of in her life often enough.

He hosts a five hour jazz show on WBGO every weekday night from seven to midnight,” she said. “Of course, the only member of my family that’s been out of the Tri-State area is my aunt Weezy. Jessica’s legs were killing as she sat down at the bar and drank her martini. Normally, she would have taken the last train to Forest Hills and tried to catch up on her sleep during the ride there, but it wasn’t happening tonight.

The place had a nice room overlooking Central Park where she would stay, so she made herself comfortable down here. She was surrounded by tourists speaking a babel of languages from which she could only pick up some Italian and French as well as a smattering of Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic. Everything else was a mystery, but she didn’t have the energy to figure out which language was which.

So, she looked around at the people and tried to guess their professions – gentleman spy, writer, movie director, actress, housewife, and priest. The list went on and on until she glanced at a man sitting two seats away. “I like your suit,” she said gently. “Do you work in finance?”
