01. Name: Toska. That’s all she’ll tell anybody, good luck getting a last name out of her.

02. Best friend: FRIENDS WHO NEEDS FRIENDS. She doesn’t have one here yet I don’t think though she’s taken a liking to a few people (Roach, Cape, etc). Back home she was best friends with a woman named Marina, they’ve been buds since childhood. But Marina married a lawyer and Toska’s into hard crime so. SEPARATE WAYS AND ALL they still write sometimes.

03. Sexuality: If anyone can figure that out they deserve a medal. She’ll flirt with anybody she takes a liking to though.

04. Favorite color: Black, burgundy, gold.

05. Relationship status: Single!

06. Ideal mate: Someone who can keep quiet when she’s working and be willing to have a good fight when she’s not. She’s got a tongue like cut glass so she appreciates someone who can throw back some of her own medicine. Also physical contact you’d better expect the unexpected.

07. Turn-ons: People who don’t try too hard to impress her or authority figures. People who work with their hands, she really likes hands and pays close attention to them. How you use your body language. She likes mind games and flirtation—the more practiced you are with it the more you catch her attention. Though it’s entertaining for her to mess with innocents too. She’s sort of a terrible person….

08. Favorite food: Bakllasarëm, baklava. Just about any kind of liver. Plum wine.

09. Crushes: She considers herself too old for crushes. Either she wants to get in your pants or she’s just entertained by you, little to no infatuation.

10. Favorite music: Jazzy stuff, she likes crooners. A couple of folk tunes from home.

11. Biggest fear: She actually is afraid of being stuck in a country at war again! Her childhood was kind of awful in that respect. She doesn’t like staying in one place for too long because she starts to get paranoid that she’ll be stuck there.

12. Biggest fantasy: Nothing that anybody wants to read about ..

13. Bad habits: Smoking lol. She also has a habit of trying to figure out ways to make herself immune to certain poisons and toxins but this doesn’t always work and she gets sick sometimes. She’s not stupid enough to really injure herself tho.

14. Biggest regret: Toska is not a woman who has regrets. Either she succeeds or she fails, and the only thing she cares about is how severe the consequences are.

15. Best kept secrets: Her and Marina totally did it after she was married shhhh don’t tell the lawyer. Also some stuff she saw during the wars but she’s not going to open up about that to anybody.

16. Last thought: Where did everyone get all of these kittens.

17. Worst romantic experience: Well she couldn’t keep Marina but she just decided to consider that a conquest.

18. Biggest insecurity: Her accent! She feels it places her too easily on a map.

19. Weapon of choice: Poisons. You can bet your ass everything on her person except her mascara has some kind of poison in it.

20. Role Model: UUHHH not sure if she really has any. She adores some fashion icons tho.

Early Chemical Warfare: Antiquity

Though chemical weapons became well-known and feared during the First World War, evidence of their use goes back almost 15,000 years, to the South African San tribes, which utilized poison from scorpions and snakes on their arrow tips used for hunting.

However, unlike the Mesoamerican peoples who were shown to have used curare vine and dart frog poison on their weapons several thousand years later, there is a lack of evidence that the San actively used these tactics against other humans. That’s not to say that they didn’t, but there is as yet no solid evidence of it that has been found.

Chemicals in Early Warfare

Despite the efficacy of poison-tipped arrows and weapons in killing individuals, to utilize chemical weaponry in warfare required being able to disperse a substance over a significant area, so as to incapacitate or kill large numbers of enemies. Aside from large-scale water and foodstore poisonings, gaseous compounds have been used against enemies and revolting subjects alike, since before the days of Sun-Tzu in the East, and the Peloponnesian War in the West.

Thucidydes wrote in 500 BCE, in History of the Peloponnesian War, of Spartans burning wood, pitch, and sulfur under the walls of Athens, hoping to incapacitate the enemy before the direct assault. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm rolled in shortly after the incendiaries were ignited, and the tactic failed. There were recorded incidents of burning sulfur in several wars in the following millennium, however, and it functioned as a moderate choking agent when it dispersed correctly.

Recent Findings

Recent excavations of Dura-Europos, in modern-day Syria, proved that burning sulfur could be extremely effective in closed quarters, especially when combined with other compounds. In 256 CE, the city launched a counter-attack against Roman forces tunneling under the battlements. The Persians heard the tunneling, and formed a smaller tunnel that connected to the Romans. At the bottom of their tunnel, they lit a fire of pitch, sulfur, and bitumen. The smoke from this fire traveled up a small chimney and into the larger Roman tunnel.

Almost 17 centuries later, excavators in the 1930s would find a pile of twenty men within the large tunnel, with Roman armor, and no apparently mortal wounds to their bones, unlike those found from the same era and area. Though ancient texts proposed chemical and incendiary tactics, proof of their use had never before been found in this area. However, in 2008, a team of archaeologists from the University of Leicester tested the tunnels, remains, and findings within the tunnels, and their findings demonstrated the earliest archaeological proof of chemical warfare.

Funny, how you were only just mentioning how I catch on quickly when you excel at the matter just as well. Not that I doubted that. I value the art of writing very much, yes. I feel that words have an existential force. Able to carry and spark a flame just as easily as diminishing it; however, I speak behind actions just as strongly. It's a shame your friend didn't share his knowledge, his thoughts, his life. I can only wonder if he passed along contently. If his life made the satisfactory dent upon his own scale before his unfortunate passing.  I do travel for that reason. Though recognition among others isn't entirely what I seek. I'm after a personal fulfillment of sorts to the most basic extent. Doing what I feel needs to be done not due to having to, or even because it was 'meant' to be, but because it feels that I am actually living that way while communicating with others so that I may become involved not only in my own matters, but with those of others and learn from them. Why I question how your friend felt at the end of his life, yet at the same time find it sad that he did not put forward those pieces of his life where others could attain anything from inspiration to guidance.

He never published his book because he did not have the money to bribe a decent printer, mjaltë. Nothing very poetic at all. Where I was a child, there were very few things to be poetic about. And they burned all the pages to keep his wife warm at night, isn't that a little irony! They were put to some practical use at least, o Zot. 

You think about things more than you write them down I am sure.

So what brought you here, across the world almost?

I find snakes to be quite charming, so I find it unfortunate, actually. Not that I’d like to be bitten by the Adder Viper, the one you speak of.  Ah. That is a long story if I were to get into every little detail. I was much closer to Australia at the point that I chose to come here. I was in Boston last. Still a great length away, but not as far as being in Britain. Each time I leave a place it’s because it has exhausted its purpose for me to remain there or, for some occasions, things felt too…unsafe. You can only cause so much trouble before people catch onto your game, even if you’re incredibly careful. The more times you pull a card off the stack house, the tendency to fall is greater. Doesn’t keep me from pulling cards anyway, but I try to keep myself on the right track. Can’t continue much of a story if I get caught, can I?

Mr. Connor you talk like someone who likes to write. I knew a writer once as a child, though he never put anything into print. He had a whole room full of hatboxes and each one with a book's worth of papers.

He took a bullet to the head in the wars, haha. Now he has nothing with his name on it, not a single book. Speaks to the wisdom of moving on. Or at least doing something so someone will remember you. Is that really why you travel, i dashur?

Sort of how I feel. Can't say for sure yet, though. I almost want to ask you to guess, but there's far too many places for that to be a fun game between us. Britain. I don't mind the heat so much here. It's more the dryness of it that gets to me sometimes.

Why, thank you. Just because I’m a misfit doesn’t mean I have to be rude. At least not always. Not when I don’t have a reason to. You could say I am, though my strengths don’t stop there. To put it very simply, I’m here in hopes of continuing my story - as we all carry. I enjoy traveling, you see, because staying in solely one place is far too restraining. It’s almost as if by doing so, that very place owns you. Things become monotonous and robotic and I don’t want to live that way. I want to find a place that I can own, instead of it owning me. I’m hoping this gang is a way for me to continue my goal in doing that. It was also sort of an impulse to join, really, not to mention I agree with most if not all of it’s theme. Yourself?
