- third semester lectures -
This year im attending 8 lectures and 2 discussion courses.
My core lectures this year are:
I. Civil procedural law (public law)
II. Property law (public law)
III. Employment law (public law)
IV. General administrative law (public law)
V. Constitutional law with European law and references to international law ( constitutional law)
VI. Special part of the Criminal law (criminal law)
I choose to attend a discussion class in property law as well as general administrative law because they prepare you pretty well for the exams. Employment law and general administrative law are mid-term exams, with adds extra stress, but I'm confident I'll manage.
I also choose two elective lectures this year, "legal latin" and "legal psychology". Im not sure if I'm taking them all the way through, but i still wanted to look into it because they sound pretty exciting.
- looking back on my second semester -
Yesterday my third semester started and im very exited, as always. I didn't really keep up with blogging last semester because i struggled with school and my mental health but i do want to do this, mainly so i can look back later and better learn from my mistakes/success. Im taking this opportunity too look back on my last semester.
What went good:
- I feel mostly good about my exams, but I haven't gotten the grades yet.
- I studied more compared to the first semester.
- I made friends with a couple girls from my dorm.
- I made more organized, readable notes compared to the first semester.
- I took on a third semester course early and passed my foreign-language-exam, this will make my third semester less stressful.
What didn't go so well:
- I didn't watch all my lectures and still have some to catch up to.
- I let school work slide during December so i had to catch it all up in January in time for the finals.
- I started my term paper in constitutional law hours before the deadline, and while i managed to finish in time i made some formal mistakes that could've been easily avoided.
Im looking forward to this semester to make positive changes to my life. I left an unhappy relationship and i think being single will help me organise myself better. My best friend moved into my dorm, from now on i have someone to study with. I plan to keep up with work and do something about my mental health. Currently I'm trying to fix my sleep schedule. Hopefully, blogging about studying will help me motivate and succeed.

“Feminism can be a friend to science. It not only improves how science is done by pushing researchers to include the female perspective, but science in turn can also show us that we’re not as different as we seem. Research to date suggests that humans survived, thrived and spread across the globe through the efforts of everyone equally sharing the same work and responsibilities. For most of our history, we lived hand in hand. And our biology reflects this.”
Reading Inferior has been extremely eye-opening, not only because it investigates gaps in scientific research, or because of the new research and scientists it introduced me to, but because it has the potential to make us radically rethink the story of us.

(No.6)
I procrastinated monday through tuesday, and feel like i reached my lowest point on Tuesday. I canceled two discussion courses to make time for homework, only to start and finish the essay i had to write in constitutional law in the middle of the night (1 to 4am). But i low key made me feel alive again, as i like to spend my nights awake. On wednesday i slept until noon but felt a lot better than the weeks prior. A friend came over and we talked a bit, and i finally finsihed cleaning my room. On thursday i finally felt like doing uni again and i sat through three lections and one discussion course, finishing at a reasonable time and going to bed according to plan. It was a nice day. Friday morning i went to work a little earlyer than i was supposed to because my supervisor changed the schedule without telling me, but it was fine in the end. My best friend and i got bubble tea afterwards and we met our friendsgroup to play among us afterwards. As always, on saturday i met my boyfriend and we spend a nice weekend together. I really hope next week will be better. (7/10)

(No. 5)
Well... I barely did any work this week and I didn't catch up on last weeks work. However, I took December as an opportunity to build some good habits for the coming year. I woke up around seven every day this week (except Sunday) and I spend my mornings watching the morning TV with a couple of girls from my dorm. I went to our weekly church service again, kept my room clean most days, rearranged my furniture, and attended the first (zoom) meeting of our gardening club. I met up with a friend for a social distance coffee to go, read at least 10 minutes every day and hit my Duolingo goals for french and Latin. Even though I wasn't productive with uni work this week I made some positive changes that I'll hopefully be able to keep up in addition to being productive. Study wise 0/10 week, otherwise 6/10.

Keeping up with Uni proved successful this week too. I'm glad I could maintain my schedule so far, even though motivation is decreasing more and more. I made an aesthetic tiktok, that was fun. Might do thag more often in the future. I also had a pretty bad hangover again, due to a small birthday party on our floor, and had to see the ophthalmologist. I'm probably gonna need new glasses, even though I got my current pair in march. Online School is pretty bad for my eyesight as it turns out. Sunday evening I concluded my week with a little advent celebration including cookies, hot chocolate and a couple of people from my floor in our kitchen.
Overall week 5/10

My birthday was this week. I'm officially 19 now. Even though Covid makes it impossible to have a real celebration I made the best out of it. I saw my family on Saturday due to my brothers birthday and I went to our weekly church service in my dorm. Unfortunately, I didn't do any uni work on Wednesday and Thursday due to lack of motivation. Sunday we had a little church service on the first of advent with some punch in our dorms garden.
Study wise a 2/10 week but overall a good 6/10.

(No. 2)
This week went pretty well, I finished all my work more or less on time. On Wednesday I deep-cleaned my room. Unfortunately, I don't do that enough because the shared cleaning supplies in our dorm suck and I'm not willing to buy me a vacuum cleaner of my own. Friday I met up with my best friends from high school. We started a study group to keep us motivated, and it's very refreshing to study with people that don't necessarily study what you do. I'm also a firm believer in that you haven't understood a topic unless you're able to explain it to someone who has no background in ýour field of study and having to explain the law to my friends with backgrounds in stem and arts is very helpful to me. A new girl moved into a room on our floor and as the prefect of my floor, I had to welcome her. She seems nice but unfortunately left for home again the next day. I spend the weekend with my boyfriend doing little for uni and met my parents for dinner on Sunday. Overall 5/10 Week
- my lectures -
an overview
This year i have 10 dieffernt lectures/courses. Yes. ten. I am required to take four. and i don’t know why i love to make my life so stressfull. But i love learning, so yes im gonna take that lecture on ancient roman law even though it has literary 0 advantages...
To give you a brief overview, in germany there are three main fields of law. The first one is private law, the second is constitutional law and the third is crimial law (oh, good old criminal law).
My core lectures this year are
I. “contractual obligations” (public law)
II. “non-contractual obligations” (public law)
III. “Organisation of the State; including Federal Constitutional Procedural Law” (constitutional law)
IV. “Gaeneral and Special Part of the Criminal Law” aka. homicide and manslaughter (criminal law)
For every one of my core lectures i have a discussion class.
Futhermore i have two elective lectures, “History of Roman Law” and “German Legal History”. It is a requirement to take two elective lectures over the course of your study, but i already took “Political Science and Theory of the State” and “Introduction to Canon Law” last semester.
And im taking “Latin I” just for funsies. three times a week, from 8 to 9:30.
Somtimes i hate myself.
But its gonna be fine. I actually wanna be proud of my accomplishments this semester, because last semseter i didn’t accomplish that much.
- my week in review -
(No. 1) THE FIRST STEP IS ALWAYS THE HARDEST
So, my first week is already over, and it started a lot more stressfull than i had hoped.
Monday was my dads birthday so i started my second semester at my parents. I really have difficulties to study there, its just a lot louder and stressful than in my little dormroom in cologne. I forced myself to sit through my first lecture in „staatsorganisationsrecht“ (Organisation-of-State-Law lol).
Tuesday and Wednesday went pretty well tho, especially regarding the fact that i have to get up at seven and then have lectures until 19:15 (7:15pm). Then on thirsday i slept through my first lecture and was so disappointed in myself that i didn’t do anything else for the day... yikes. I also didn’t catch up with any uniwork over the weekend, so this week will be extra stressful.
Besides Thursday the week was pretty good tho. On Friday i had to go to work with the worst hangover ive ever had, that wasn’t very fun, but the evening preceding that was a lot of fun and on friday itself we celebrated the birthday of one of my best friends that lives in my dorm, covid-save of course. I spend the weekend with working and my boyfriend and on saturday there was a zoom-meeting with all the people in my house (its not exactly a fraternity, co-ed and everything, but kind close, so im not sure what to call it), and i was elected into the administrative positions i wanted to be in.
Overall a 6/10 Week.
I have this planner with these absolutely ridiculous pages with like “motivational” quotes on them that are just these bullshit things like “Let your heart sing” and “Always believe in your dreams”
and like that’s always struck me as such meaningless bullshit, I’ve always hated those. They’ve never had that element that truly motivates me.
So, I took matters into my own hands and I made my own artsy motivational wallpapers. Enjoy.
