From Ashes to Life: The Fireborn Fungus
In 2022, there was a wildfire in Santiago, N.L., Mexico. Fortunately, it didn’t completely devastate the area, but it did leave several trees burned, which eventually fell. It wasn’t until November 2023 that, from a distance, I saw a nearly fluorescent orange spot that led me to discover this rare and vibrant fungus growing on the charred remains of a tree.
As a visual artist, I almost always search in my imagination for the stories I want to tell, but this time nature surprised me with its own.
When everything is destroyed, all that’s left is to rise and transform. Ecosystems struggle to recover, yet in their wake, they create space for something new to emerge. Who knows, maybe this fungus appeared just to remind me of that.
it's beautiful and majestic; it reminds me of lava from a volcano, like the phoenix rising from the ashes in Fantasia movie. I really loved the concept of transformation through destruction in this finding
Thanks, Mother Nature, you’re crazy.
Update: I posted the pictures in @inaturalist and the suggested identification is Genus Gloeophyllum.
Just imagine,
imagine feeling fully alive
without having to think about that.

Eclipse 2024
My catastrophic mind considered preparing these experiments in case my camera died to capture the eclipse safely, but in the end, I just said whateverrrrr 🌚
holo eclipse with diffraction grating! 🌈🌙☀️💥✨
I decided to sacrifice an old camera for the eclipse and see and capture everything through the camera screen. I guess the clouds in Monterrey acted as a filter, preventing my sensor from burning out 🙈 lol

Some months ago, I was traveling on a plane, and I have always enjoyed capturing the eastern Sierra Madre in northern Mexico. So, on those flights where I know I'll see it, I'm very focused on taking photos. It wasn't until I developed and scanned the negative films from that trip that my brain began connecting the dots, and I realized I had seen those mountains before. I kept looking at them, thinking it couldn't be possible, but then I checked my 'Elsewhere' project, which I took 10 years ago, and to my surprise, I had captured the same mountain in a very random way on two different commercial flights… mmh excuse me.. but wtf? 😂
It's amazing to me that I took a nearly identical shot a decade ago, yes, with a different perspective, but with very similar clouds! It's weird and nice... kinda like a real déjà vu and also a decade celebration, so, cheers I guess 🥂lol
