...This is my most anticipated series yet , let me know how y'all feel in the replies plzz 🥹💝
California felt smaller the closer you got to leaving it. Not physically exactly but emotionally.
Like every street you walked down suddenly carried memories you hadn’t noticed before. Every palm tree, every late night drive, every corner store run with your friends blasting music too loud in the car while talking about how one day all of you would visit Japan together. Except now it was real. Not a fantasy. Not another TikTok repost with the caption “this is gonna be us.”
You were actually leaving…for a whole year. And despite the excitement bubbling in your chest so violently you thought you could scream from it..part of you still felt sick.
Your relationship had already been rotting long before this trip happened. Everyone thought the two of you were perfect together. The typical popular guy and the popular girl. It made sense on paper. Jacob was attractive, charming when he wanted to be, and knew exactly how to make people gravitate toward him. You were the same way. Eyes naturally followed both of you everywhere you went.
But what people didn’t see…was how badly Jacob hated the attention you got. Especially when it came easier to you than it ever did to him.
Every compliment you received somehow became an argument later. Every picture you posted somehow turned into another woman appearing on his phone. Another screenshot sent to you by some random girl asking, “aren’t you his girlfriend?” Another video of him in somebody else’s dorm, somebody else’s bed, somebody else’s arms.
Like he needed to prove to himself that he could still be wanted too.
And the worst part about it all ?
You stayed…over and over again.
Because every time he cheated, every time he lied, every time he broke your trust, he’d come back softer. Sweeter. Holding your face while telling you nobody could ever compare to you. That he was just insecure. That he didn’t deserve you. That he loved you more than anybody else ever could.
And like an idiot..you believed him every single time.
The black Cadillac Escalade rolled to a stop outside the airport terminal, pulling you from your thoughts as your father immediately got out to help with your bags before you could even touch them yourself.
“Phone?” he asked instantly.
You laughed tiredly. “Yes.”
You rolled your eyes as you shoved the airpods case in his face . “Yes, dad !”
He narrowed his eyes. “..Location still on?” You groaned dramatically. “Twenty-four seven, remember? You already threatened to fly to Japan yourself if I turned it off.”
“That wasn’t a threat,” he muttered while lifting another suitcase from the trunk. “That was a promise.”
That made you smile, because despite how overprotective he could be…you knew why.
…After your mother died, it had just been the two of you for years. He worked nonstop building his real estate business from the ground up while somehow still making every dance recital, every birthday, every breakdown, every moment that mattered.
He was your parent. Your best friend. Your safety, and now you were leaving him too. He pulled you into a tight hug before you could get emotional about it, kissing the top of your forehead the same way he always had since you were little.
“Text me when you land,” he said quietly. “Text me when you get on the plane. Text me when you’re in the air. I don’t care if it’s turbulence and everybody’s screaming-- text me.”
You laughed against his chest. “I will.”
His hands rested on your shoulders for a moment as he looked at you carefully, almost like he was trying to memorize your face before you disappeared across the world.
“...Be safe out there, alright?” he said softly. “I love you.”
Your throat tightened slightly. “I love you too.”
Then just like that-- you turned.
And walked toward the airport with your heart practically exploding from excitement.
You are actually going too Japan.
Your mind raced the entire time you got through security. You were already imagining convenience store runs at two in the morning, filming cute apartment cooking videos for TikTok, shopping in Shibuya, making new friends, exploring train stations, trying street food, taking aesthetic photos under neon lights.
This was your fresh start.
By the time the plane landed hours later, your body was exhausted but your excitement completely overpowered it. The moment you stepped off into the airport, it felt like stepping into another world entirely.
The terminal buzzed with movement and conversation, polished floors reflecting bright overhead lights while people rushed past one another speaking rapid Japanese, greeting family members, dragging luggage through the crowds. Vending machines lined the walls glowing with colorful drinks while giant signs lit overhead directing travelers through the massive airport.
Everything felt alive. It was wayyy cleaner than California . Everything was moving fast and it was so beautiful. You turned slowly just taking it all in before your phone buzzed in your hand.
Then against your better judgment…you texted Jacob too.
..left on seen. That made your smile fade slightly…whatever. He was probably already cheating with somebody anyway.
You shoved the thought away immediately before it could ruin this moment for you.
That’s when you spotted it-- A man holding a sign with your name printed neatly across the front. The driver holding it looked up the second he noticed you approaching and for a moment, he visibly paused.
Not in a rude way but just surprised.. At least that's what it seemed like. You were obviously foreign, obviously not from here, but more than that..you were beautiful.
Your curls framed your face softly from the long flight while your oversized hoodie hung slightly off one shoulder, your tired eyes still glowing with excitement despite the exhaustion pulling at you.
“…Y/N?” he asked politely.
You smiled quickly. “Hi, yes, that’s me.”
His expression softened immediately. “Welcome to Japan. I’ll be your driver tonight.” The drive through the city almost overstimulated you in the best possible way. Lights flooded every street corner while giant signs glowed overhead in colors so bright they reflected against the car windows. Crowds moved through sidewalks even this late at night, restaurants packed with people laughing together while convenience stores glowed warmly at nearly every corner.
You couldn’t stop staring and taking pictures to post on your insta for later. Every few seconds another thought entered your head.
The driver noticed your excitement in the review mirror as he caught a glance and smiled faintly to himself while explaining different parts of the city as you passed them.
By the time you reached your apartment building, you were practically vibrating from anticipation.
It wasn’t overly luxurious, but it was beautiful in your eyes. It was very modern and clean. Tall glass windows reflected the city lights while the lobby smelled faintly like fresh linen and rain.
The driver helped bring your luggage upstairs while politely explaining how the apartment worked, where certain things were located, how the locks operated, what number to call if you needed assistance through the exchange program.
You nodded along barely paying attention to anything he said while looking around your new home in awe.
The apartment was cozy but elegant, soft lighting warming the space while the kitchen overlooked the city below through wide windows. It already looked like the type of apartment people filmed aesthetic morning routines in.
You were so distracted looking around-- You almost didn’t hear the arguing outside.
“…You literally cheated dude.”
“You picked the same character three times, Yuji.”
“That’s called strategy not cheating !”
The voices got louder as two boys rounded the hallway corner mid argument before slowing near your open doorway.
The other looked permanently tired of life…
Both stopped slightly after noticing the unfamiliar luggage and the driver standing inside.
“Oh,” the pink-haired one said first. “Guess someone moved in.”
The dark-haired boy glanced briefly toward the apartment before shrugging slightly. “We’ll probably meet them later.”
Then they disappeared into the neighboring apartment still arguing about whatever stupid game they were playing.
The second the driver finally left and the silence settled in around you, your excitement came rushing back twice as hard. You immediately threw yourself onto the couch, kicked your feet up, and opened TikTok, searching up every place you saw during the drive over. Convenience stores. Cafés. Shopping districts. Tiny ramen shops hidden in alleyways.
Your entire feed was basically screaming:
And honestly ? You were ready to eat it up. When you realized there was an convenience store only three minutes away walking distance, your eyes widened immediately.
“Oh thank god,” you whispered dramatically to yourself. “I have to go.”
You grabbed your phone, shoved your wallet into your hoodie pocket, and headed back outside almost instantly.
The city somehow looked even prettier at night.
Streetlights reflected against the wet pavement while signs glowed overhead in colors so bright they almost looked fake. Groups of friends laughed while walking past restaurants, bicycles rolled quietly down the sidewalks, and every few seconds you caught yourself staring upward like an actual cringey tourist.
You pulled your phone out and took a quick video of yourself while walking.
“Guys,” you whispered into the camera excitedly, “I’m literally in Japan right now. Like this is insane.”
Without thinking, you sent the video to Jacob too.
No response...left on seen again… he’s a joke. Your smile twitched slightly before you rolled your eyes. “Oh my God,” you muttered under your breath. “I actually hate this man.”
But still..you pushed it aside. Because the moment you walked into the convenience store, your entire attention shifted immediately.
Everything looked perfect, just like the videos on your for you page,
The shelves were spotless, snacks organized by color, warm food displayed neatly beneath glowing lights while soft music played overhead. You grabbed one of the onigiri almost immediately after recognizing it from all your saved videos, then a pouch of green grape juice and instant ramen you absolutely did not need but wanted anyway.
You were basically vibrating with joy while carrying everything to the register. “This is the best day of my life,” you whispered dramatically while recording another video.
Right as you started setting the food up outside for pictures--your phone rang.
You answered immediately.
“Heyyy dad.” you say with a little bit of guilt because your are almost certain he saw the charge on his credit card..oops.
“Where are you ?” he asked instantly.
You laughed. “At a convenience store.”
“A convenience store, dad.”
There was immediate silence on the other end.
“I told you to be careful.”
“Oh my God,” you groaned dramatically. “I am being careful. It’s literally three minutes from my apartment.”
“You’re in another country.”
“And you have my location twenty-four seven.”
“And I answered when you called,” you added quickly while grabbing your drink. “How much safer can I physically get?”
Your father sighed heavily through the phone. “You sound exactly like your mother right now.”
You smiled softly despite yourself. Then quickly pretended to hear another call.
“Oh shoot-- hold on, someone’s calling me.”
You hung up before he could keep going and laughed quietly to yourself while gathering your bags.
The walk back felt calmer. It was cooler at night. You were halfway down the apartment hallway when suddenly, something soft brushed against your leg.
A tiny white bunny looked up at you.
Your entire face lit up instantly.
“This is the CUTEST thing I’ve ever seen!” You crouched down immediately, gently scooping it into your arms while it cuddled right against your hoodie without resistance.
“Oh my God…” you whispered dramatically. “Who loses a bunny in an apartment complex?”
You looked down the hallway.
Then toward the neighboring apartment.
“…Probably theirs.” The bunny sniffed your chin while you walked toward the door and knocked politely.
Inside, muffled yelling continued. You knocked harder..Still nothing.
Then you heard it clearly.
“No, Yuji, you get the door. I got it last time.”
“It’s probably your stupid package!”
“You ordered food yesterday!”
“Oh my God just OPEN IT!”
You blinked. “…What is happening in there?”
Finally the door swung open and the pink-haired boy from earlier froze instantly. His mouth literally parted slightly.
Not because you were there…Because you were holding the bunny. Megumi’s bunny.
Something normal people absolutely should not be able to see.
“…What?” Yuji said before he could stop himself.
You blinked back at him. “…There was a bunny in the hallway?”
Before he could answer, the bunny suddenly jumped from your arms and hopped directly into the apartment toward the dark-haired boy sitting on the couch.
You awkwardly rubbed the back of your neck.
Yuji was still staring. Hard as hell. Like he was trying to solve a math equation just by looking at you.
You slowly held your hand out. “I’m Y/N,” you said politely.
He blinked once before quickly shaking your hand.
The second your skin touched--his eyes widened slightly. Because your cursed energy was ridiculous.
Not normal…Not even close to normal.
It rolled off you in massive waves so naturally that if Gojo himself walked in, he probably would’ve stopped breathing for a second.
You clearly had no idea. “…Nice to meet you,” you said awkwardly while slowly pulling your hand back.
Yuji was still staring. Megumi now too.
Both looking at you like you had personally descended from another planet.
You shifted uncomfortably.
“…Damn,” you muttered internally while backing toward your own apartment. “I didn’t know foreigners got treated like this here.”
You laughed awkwardly. “Well… I’m gonna head back to my apartment now.”
You quickly shut your apartment door behind yourself and exhaled.
“What the hell was that ?”
A shower helped..a little.
You changed into oversized pajamas, wrapped your bonnet over your curls, and finally crawled into bed exhausted.
Before sleeping-- you called Jacob again.
The ache in your chest came immediately. You stared at the ceiling for a long moment before quietly whispering to yourself:
But honestly? You didn’t believe that. Eventually you pulled your eye mask down and tried forcing yourself to sleep.
Yelling. Another loud crash.
Your eye twitched beneath the mask. “…Oh hell no.”
You immediately got up, stormed toward the neighboring apartment, and started banging on the door.
No answer. Only more yelling.
You narrowed your eyes. “Fine then.” You shoved the door open yourself.
The entire room went silent instantly.
And standing between them…
Was a massive man covered in black markings and tattoos, pink hair slightly messy as he turned his head slowly toward you.
The air shifted immediately…Heavy.
Your stomach dropped so suddenly it almost hurt.
But still--You were irritated enough to keep talking.
“Can somebody please keep it down in here?” you snapped sleepily. “Is it normal in Japan to scream at three in the morning and wake your neighbors up?”
Nobody spoke. Nobody moved. At this point Yuji and Megumi looked horrified.
Not because of you yelling…Because of WHO you were yelling at.
And somehow…You still kept going. Looking past him directly at Yuji.
“Please tell your company to lower their voices,” you said while looking directly at Sukuna now. “Some people are trying to sleep.”
Sukuna stared at you…Like actually stared.
Like the world itself had suddenly stopped moving..
“…What ?” you asked awkwardly. “Is anyone going to speak or are you guys just gonna keep staring at me like I’m E.T.?”
A low laugh rumbled from Sukuna’s chest.
Yuji’s face immediately lost all color.
Megumi slowly took one step back.
Because Sukuna never laughed…Not like that.
And definitely not while looking at someone like that.
You finally noticed their reactions. And suddenly -- your instincts screamed. Leave. Get the hell out of there now.
“…Yeah, you know what” you muttered slowly. “I’m probably gonna go.”
You turned quickly toward the door. But a massive hand suddenly wrapped around your arm. Then instantly you saw darkness and quickly after that…
A bridge beneath moonlight. Your hand in his. Blood soaking your bare feet.
His fingers against your throat while he grinned down at you in bed.
Multiple bodies. People terrified, screaming.
His voice whispering against your ear while blood pooled around both of you.
A bed drenched in gold silk.
His mouth against yours. Then more fire, more death more..devotion.
Your breath violently hitched.
You ripped your arm away instantly like he burned you.
Panic exploded through your chest. You stumbled backward before turning and literally running out of the apartment. You slammed your own door shut behind yourself and pressed against it breathing hard.
“What the fuck is going ON HERE?!”
Your hands shook violently while grabbing your phone.
He answered on the first ring. “…Y/N?”
“Dad,” you whispered immediately, panicked tears already building, “something’s wrong here.”
He sat up immediately from the sound of your voice.
“My neighbors are WEIRD,” you rambled quickly. “They were yelling at three in the morning and then-- and then one of them touched me and I swear to God I think somebody literally did witchcraft on me or SOMETHING because I just saw all this weird stuff in my head and I--I”
“I wanna come home.” Silence. Then your father sighed heavily.
Your heart dropped. “Dad--”
“I rented that apartment for a year,” he said firmly. “You’re staying there for a year.”
“Please, your not listening---”
“You’re overwhelmed. That’s all this is.”
“You just wanna run back home to that boyfriend of yours.”
That shut you up immediately.
Your father softened slightly. “Get some sleep,” he said quietly. “I’ll call you in the morning.”
And suddenly...you felt completely alone.
You immediately called Jacob.
Straight to voicemail…again. Your throat tightened painfully. So you left one anyway.
“…Why can’t you just be there for me once?” you whispered through tears. “Just once, Jacob. Even if it’s fake. Even if you have to pretend to care about me, why can’t you just do it?”
Then you curled up in bed crying so hard you eventually exhausted yourself to sleep.
Sukuna sat silently..still staring at the hand that touched you.
The apartment went dead silent the second your bedroom door slammed shut next door.
Not normal silence either.
The kind that made the air itself feel wrong. Yuji looked between the closed doorway and Sukuna carefully, completely confused by whatever the hell just happened.
Because the moment Sukuna touched you---
Something changed in him and Yuji noticed immediately.
Sukuna was still standing in the exact same spot, fingers slightly flexed at his side where your skin touched him moments ago.
His expression was unreadable. But his eyes…his eyes looked almost shaken..Which made absolutely no sense.
Megumi frowned immediately.
“…Did we miss something?” he asked cautiously.
His thoughts were too loud.. Too violent. Because the second he grabbed your arm he remembered everything. Not small fragments. Not bits of pieces.
Your laugh beneath candlelight.
Your fingers slowly combing through his hair while he rested with his head against your lap after slaughtering an entire village for daring to disrespect you.
The feeling of your lips against his jaw while blood still stained his skin.
You laying against his chest half asleep while tracing the markings on his arms like they were art instead of something monstrous.
The way you held his face sometimes…like he was something fragile.
Something worthy of being loved. Sukuna’s chest tightened violently.
No…No. Absolutely not. It couldn’t be…Not after all this time. Not after centuries.
Not after he buried you himself..
“…Impossible,” he muttered quietly.
Yuji and Megumi exchanged a look immediately.
Because Sukuna never sounded like that. Like ever. Not confused or uncertain, and definitely not emotional.
Yuji scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
“…Uh,” he started carefully, “I think she just moved in today.”
Yuji continued cautiously.
“And honestly…” he shrugged slightly, “I don’t think she knows anything about curses or any of this stuff.”
That question finally made Sukuna move…slowly.
His gaze shifted toward Yuji coldly. Because no matter how hard he tried to deny it--
His soul already recognized yours. And what made it even worse…yours reacted back.
Sukuna looked away first. “Tch.” A dismissive scoff left him as he folded his arms.
But the memories wouldn’t stop.
You smiling while feeding him fruit beneath moonlight.
Your body tangled with his beneath silk sheets.
The sound of your laugh echoing through temple halls.
The way you used to press your forehead against his after nightmares and whisper:
“You’re more human than you think.”
His jaw tightened sharply. No…You were dead.
Held your body himself while your blood soaked through his hands.
He remembered your last breath. Remembered destroying half the country afterward because grief drove him insane.
So this..this girl crying next door over some pathetic human boyfriend while wearing a bonnet and yelling at him to be quiet---
Could not be you…It wasn’t possible.
Yet…Sukuna slowly looked back toward the apartment wall separating you from him.
And for the first time in centuries--- The King of Curses felt his heart beat unevenly. “…No,” he muttered again quietly to himself. But even as he said it..your scent still lingered on his hand..
The next morning started with yelling…again.
“THIS place is disgusting!”
Your eyes slowly blinked open beneath your bonnet as another loud slam echoed through the apartment walls next door.
“You two live like raccoons!” a girl’s voice shouted dramatically. “How the heck are there noodles on the CEILING?!”
You stared blankly at your ceiling for a long moment.
Then groaned into your pillow.
“…I swear I’m going back to California.”
Nobara stood in the middle of Yuji and Megumi’s apartment with her hands on her hips looking genuinely offended by the state of their living room.
Empty cups. Wrappers. Game controllers. A sock hanging off the lamp somehow. “You’re both disgusting,” she declared dramatically.
Yuji pointed immediately toward Megumi.
Megumi looked up from the couch with zero emotion. “You literally used my hoodie as a mop yesterday.”
Nobara looked physically exhausted already. Then suddenly---
Yuji paused. “…Wait,” he said carefully. “Can you maybe keep it down a little?”
Yuji and Megumi exchanged a quick look.
“Our new neighbor got mad last night and she's probably tired,” Yuji admitted awkwardly.
Nobara immediately straightened. “…New neighbor?”
“Yeah,” Yuji said. “Her name’s Y/N.”
Nobara’s eyes narrowed slightly. “A girl?”
“She just moved in from America,” Megumi added quietly.
That made Nobara pause immediately. “…America?”
Yuji nodded. “And she can see curses.”
Silence. Nobara slowly turned toward them.
“…What clan is she from?”
“She doesn’t know anything about jujutsu society either,” Yuji added quickly. “I genuinely think she’s just some random girl.”
Nobara stared at them both for a long moment. Then immediately headed toward the door.
“Where are you going?” Megumi asked flatly.
“You just wanna be nosy.”
“And why is that your problem dork,” Nobara corrected confidently.
Before either of them could stop her, she was already marching down the hallway toward your apartment.
Meanwhile.. You looked horrible. Not in an ugly way. In an exhausted way.
Your eyes were swollen and red from crying half the night while one side of your bonnet had almost slipped off completely during your sleep. One of your oversized shirt sleeves hung off your shoulder while you stood half awake brushing your teeth—
You blinked slowly. “…Please don’t be the pink-haired one.”
You sighed dramatically before walking toward the door and swinging it open.. and immediately when it did, Nobara froze. Because the cursed energy pouring out of your apartment hit her like a truck.
Heavy enough that her instincts immediately screamed at her to be careful.
Meanwhile… you just looked tired. “…Hi,” Nobara said slowly.
You blinked at her. “…Hi.”
“I’m Nobara,” she introduced quickly while trying not to look visibly startled. “Im friends with the idiots next door”
You stared at her blankly for a second before rubbing your eyes tiredly.
“I’m really not in the mood to talk right now,” you admitted honestly.
Then your exhaustion suddenly exploded all at once.
“My boyfriend hasn’t answered me since I got to this stupid country,” you rambled tiredly. “Everybody here keeps freaking me out and staring at me weird and now apparently people scream at three in the morning here and I’m exhausted and ugly and irritated and TIRED.”
You paused. “…And I already said tired right? ”
Nobara stared at you for exactly two seconds. Then suddenly grabbed your shoulders dramatically. “LISTEN TO ME.”
“You heard me, screw him,” she repeated immediately. “We’re going out tonight.”
You looked genuinely confused.
“…We literally just met.”
“And?” Nobara asked dramatically. “This is exactly what you need.”
You stared at her. She stared back intensely.
“We need girl time,” she declared confidently. “Immediately.”
“We’re already best friends,” Nobara decided. “I can feel it.”
You almost laughed despite yourself.
Nobara pointed at you accusingly. “There! That little almost-smile right there means I’m winning.”
“…You’re insane aren't you.”
“And gorgeous,” she added casually. “Which means your soon to be ex-boyfriend is stupid. Now hurry up and get dressed.”
You stared at her for another long moment…Then finally sighed.
“…Okay give me five minutes.”
Nobara gasped dramatically. “Oh my God she said yes.”
Then before you could react, she shoved herself into your apartment like she already paid rent there.
Yuji and Megumi had followed right behind her like stray cats.
You came out of your room mid-getting-ready wearing a fitted t-shirt, tiny black shorts, and sandals, your curls thrown into a messy bun while gloss shimmered softly against your lips.
Then you stopped. Because somehow all three of them had gotten comfortable in your apartment already.
Yuji was stretched across your couch with snacks in his lap like he paid rent there.
Nobara was halfway hanging off the armrest scrolling through your streaming apps.
Megumi was quietly picking up random decorations off your shelves examining them.
You narrowed your eyes immediately.
Megumi blinked. “What this ?”
“Yes that,” you said while walking over and snatching the little trinket from his hand. “Not for you to touch, thank you.”
Yuji immediately burst out laughing.
Megumi looked mildly offended.
Meanwhile Yuji’s attention shifted toward a framed picture sitting near your TV stand.
“Ooooo,” he dragged dramatically while grabbing it. “Who’s this?”
Your stomach immediately tightened. Jacob… The photo was from prom night, your hand in his while he kissed your forehead for the camera like he wasn’t cheating on you the previous week.
You immediately walked over and snatched it away too.
Yuji’s eyes widened dramatically. “OHHHH somebody’s having relationship problems.”
“Shut up,” you groaned while tossing the frame face down onto the counter. “I just need to get out of this apartment before I lose my damn mind.”
Nobara immediately pointed at you. “THAT’S the spirit.”
You sighed dramatically while grabbing your bag.
“So,” you asked while slipping your sandals on properly, “are you guys gonna be my tour guides today or what?”
Yuji practically jumped off the couch. “Hell yeah we are!”
The second you stepped into the crowded streets, you felt like your brain short-circuited from excitement. Giant glowing signs stretched above the city while music poured from storefronts and crowds moved endlessly through the sidewalks beneath neon lights.
Every few minutes you had to stop yourself from screaming:
“OH MY GOD THIS IS JUST LIKE MY TIKTOK .”
Yuji and Nobara laughed at you the entire time.
You all bounced from store to store carrying shopping bags while taking selfies together, trying snacks, recording dumb videos, and arguing over which claw machine prizes looked the ugliest.
At one point Nobara dragged you into a makeup store while Yuji and Megumi waited outside like exhausted boyfriends.
“You seriously dated american men?” Nobara asked dramatically while holding up a lipstick beside your face.
You groaned immediately. “Don’t even get me started.”
“No seriously,” she insisted. “Tell me everything.”
So you did. You told her everything about Jacob. About all the cheating. The manipulation when you caught him . The emotional games right after...The way he made you feel wanted one second and disposable the next.
By the end of it, Nobara looked genuinely horrified. “…Hell no,” she declared immediately. “I’m NEVER going to America.”
You laughed despite yourself.
“And you want to go back to him?” she continued dramatically. “Absolutely not. We’re fixing your taste in men immediately.”
You rolled your eyes. “The men here aren’t any better. Everybody keeps staring at me like I’m an alien.” Right as you said it, you looked up and immediately locked eyes with another stranger openly staring at you from across the sidewalk.
Nobara laughed loudly. “That’s because you’re gorgeous, idiot.”
You blinked. “No seriously,” she continued while waving her hand dramatically toward you. “You’re hot, American, AND got a bangin body!”
Yuji nodded from beside her. “That’s like… triple rare here.”
You stared at him. “…Triple rare?”
“Not helping,” Megumi muttered.
Nobara laughed harder. “They’re not trying to insult you,” she explained. “People just aren’t used to seeing someone like you.”
You glanced around awkwardly.
“Trust me,” Nobara said confidently while linking her arm through yours, “if people are staring, it’s because they think you’re pretty.”
Your phone suddenly rang.
You answered immediately. “Hey dad.”
“I see you’re out,” he said immediately.
“Yeah, I’m with my friends.”
Yuji immediately leaned toward the phone. “What’s up pop!”
Megumi awkwardly lifted his hand slightly.
Nobara grabbed your arm dramatically. “HELLO SIR I’m your daughter’s hottest friend.” You snorted loudly.
Your father sighed through the phone. “…At least you sound happier today.”
That softened you slightly.
“…Yeah,” you admitted quietly. “I think I am.”
“Well thats good to hear,” he said softly. “Just be safe and text me when you get back home.”
After the call ended, Nobara immediately spun toward you dramatically. “There’s this club nearby.”
Megumi sighed immediately. “No.”
Yuji immediately pointed accusingly at Nobara.
“Is this the same club where you threw up after like six sake shots?”
Nobara smacked the back of his head instantly.
“THAT is not what happened.”
“You literally cried because somebody stepped on your shoe.”
You laughed so hard your stomach hurt, and for the first time since arriving in Japan…you genuinely forgot about Jacob.
At least until your phone buzzed again. You looked down immediately.
Still no response from him..
Even though his instagram story updated ten minutes ago.
Your smile faded slightly.
Yuji noticed instantly. “…Still nothing?”
You locked your phone quietly. “…Yeah.”
Nobara rolled her eyes dramatically. “Okay yeah. We’re definitely getting drunk tonight.”
By the time you all returned to the apartment complex, your arms were full of shopping bags and your social battery was completely destroyed.
The second you walked into your apartment, you collapsed face first onto the couch dramatically.
“…I’m never walking again that much.”
Nobara laughed while backing toward your doorway. “Be ready by nine.”
You lifted your head slightly.
You groaned on a pillow on your couch“…That’s so soon.”
“Beauty takes sacrifice,” she declared dramatically before pointing at you. “And if you’re not ready when I come back, I’m breaking in.”
Silence settled into your apartment afterward.
You stared at the ceiling quietly while your thoughts slowly wandered back toward Jacob.
Your chest ached badly…Because deep down you already knew. Nobody ignores someone they truly love that long.
..Not unless they wanted distance…Not unless they were done.
You swallowed hard and looked down toward the place Sukuna touched your arm last night.
Your stomach twisted slightly.
“That guy is so weird,” you muttered softly to yourself. Then bits of memories you didnt recognize replayed again.. His voice. The bridge. You immediately shook your head.
“Nope. Absolutely not.” Had to be jet lag. Or maybe it was stress, yes that sound about right.
Definitely lack of sleep..That’s all this was.
You checked the time. Seven.“…Might as well get ready.” And get ready is what you did.
Your flat iron left your hair silky straight down your back, middle part sharp while smoky black makeup made your eyes stand out dangerously beneath glossy lips.
The strapless black dress hugged your body perfectly.
Not too revealing but just enough.
The heels completed it. You stared at yourself in the mirror for a long moment.
You smiled immediately. “Nobara already?” But when you opened the door, Yuji and Megumi both froze completely.
Yuji’s jaw literally dropped.
Megumi looked away almost immediately. “You look nice,” he muttered awkwardly.
Yuji looked personally offended. “Nice?! Dude she looks insane.”
Megumi elbowed him instantly.
“Ow!” Yuji pointed dramatically toward you. “No seriouslyY/N you’re hot as hell.”
You burst out laughing. “…Thank you?”
Megumi quietly handed you a convenience store bag.
“We brought food,” he explained. “You should probably eat before drinking.”
Yuji nodded dramatically.
“We’re trying to prevent another Nobara Incident.”
“That happened ONE TIME,” Nobara shouted from down the hallway.
You laughed while taking the bag.
“…Thanks guys.” Then Megumi awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck slightly.
“We should probably exchange numbers too,” he admitted quietly. “Just in case something happens tonight.”
You nodded immediately. “Honestly that’s probably smart.”
A few minutes later all three contacts sat saved in your phone.
Right as you finished the last touches of your makeup Nobara finally appeared in the doorway.
..And immediately screamed. “OH MY GOD.”
“LOOK at you!” She grabbed your shoulders dramatically. “And your HAIR?!”
Yuji nodded immediately. “It’s straight to the bone.”
Nobara narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “Is this one of your cursed techniques?” You blinked slowly. “…What the hell is a cursed technique?”
Yuji smacked his hand over Nobara’s mouth instantly.
“Could you shut your loud trap for ONCE?”
“ANYWAYS,” Yuji continued loudly while dragging Nobara away. “Let’s go!”
Lights flashed through crowds of dancing bodies while music pounded so loudly you felt it through your ribs.
And unfortunately..people definitely noticed you. A lot. You felt eyes following you almost immediately the second you walked in.
At one point you leaned toward Nobara yelling,
“WHY IS EVERYBODY LOOKING OVER HERE?!”
She screamed back over the music,
“BECAUSE YOU LOOK LIKE YOU WALKED OUT OF A PLAYBOY MAGAZINE.”
The bartender slid sake shots toward your group.
Nobara immediately lifted hers dramatically. “To hot girls and horrible men!”
Yuji lifted his. “To emotional healing!”
Megumi sighed while lifting his own reluctantly. “…To surviving tonight.”
You laughed loudly and clinked your shot against theirs. Then swallowed it. Warmth immediately spread through your chest.
And for a moment you finally felt free. Until suddenly…the entire club shifted.
The energy changed instantly. People moved quickly as the crowd of people parted. Fear rolled through the room so suddenly it almost made your stomach turn.
Then you looked up and saw him.
He stood near the entrance wearing black from head to toe, tattoos visible against his skin while people practically stumbled out of his way without him saying a word.
He looked dangerous. Like something not meant to exist among normal people. Your stomach tightened immediately.
And when his eyes found yours It felt like standing in front of a starving lion. Like he wanted to consume you whole. Heat curled low in your stomach so suddenly it irritated you.
You quickly looked away. “…Can I get another shot?” you asked the bartender quickly.
A faint smirk pulled at Sukuna’s mouth immediately. Because he noticed..
Then slowly he approached you from behind.
You felt him before you saw him. His presence wrapped around your body like smoke, heavy and suffocating as he stopped directly behind you close enough for the heat of him to brush against your back.
Your breath caught slightly. One tattooed arm slid beside yours against the bar top as he reached for your untouched sake shot.
His chest hovered just behind you closely…too closely. Then you felt his breath against your neck. Sending chills violently up your spine.
And finally he spoke, His voice was smooth and low. “…What exactly do you think you’re wearing?”
Your entire body locked the second his voice brushed against your ear.
Dangerous enough to make your stomach twist.
You blinked rapidly before immediately turning your head toward him.
“I-uh--” Your words caught embarrassingly in your throat. Which irritated you instantly. So instead you narrowed your eyes and snapped back. “Who do you think you are asking me that anyway? I don’t even know your name.”
Your voice grew sharper the more you talked.
“You just walk in here acting like you own the place--- ”
Your words cut off instantly when Sukuna grabbed your untouched sake shot and slammed it back against the counter hard enough to make you flinch slightly.
The sound echoed sharply through the bar.
Then slowly..He leaned down. Close enough his mouth brushed slightly against your ear.
“…That’s better,” he murmured lowly.
Your breath hitched immediately.
You looked toward Nobara in complete confusion like..what the hell is happening?
But Nobara looked just as stunned. Actually..everyone did.
Meanwhile Sukuna barely looked away from you as he motioned toward the bartender.
The bartender nearly tripped over himself rushing to obey. The moment the fresh sake shots hit the counter, Sukuna slid one toward you lazily.
“…What ?” you asked cautiously.
His mouth twitched slightly.
“ You're not finished already are you? ” he asked smoothly,
Your eyes narrowed immediately. “Oh absolutely not.”
You grabbed the shot instantly out of pure spite and turned fully toward him, only to realize how close he actually was now.
God he was massive. Towering over you enough that you instinctively leaned backward slightly.
Your hand immediately pressed against his abdomen to create distance. The second you touched him, something shifted in his expression. Subtle but terrifying. Like he was restraining something beneath his skin. Like your touch alone nearly snapped whatever control he had left.
Mostly because the alcohol was already warming your head enough to make you bolder. So instead you lifted your shot toward him dramatically.
Then swallowed it, and Sukuna watched everything. The way the sake slid slowly past your lips.
The slight parting of your mouth afterward. The way your throat bobbed while you swallowed. Every tiny movement held his complete attention so intensely it almost looked like he was under a trance...
Then you slowly wiped the remaining drop from your glossy lips with your thumb.
And Sukuna exhaled quietly through his nose..Because if he stared any longer… he genuinely might lose control.
You looked exactly the same. Still beautiful enough to make him irrational. Still carrying yourself with that same confidence that used to drive him insane centuries ago. You always liked provoking him. Wearing revealing silks around lesser men just to watch him drag you away to your shared bed chambers later.
Smiling sweetly while testing his patience like a brat. His brat.
And now here you were again wearing a dress that barely concealed your body while pathetic humans openly stared at you like they deserved to look.
His jaw tightened…No. Not this time. Nobody would take you from him again. Nobody would touch you. Nobody would breathe too close to you. Not even this pathetic boyfriend you kept crying over.
Your phone buzzed suddenly against the counter.
You looked down immediately.
You stared blankly for a second. Then laughed bitterly. “Wow.” You unlocked your phone quickly, fingers aggressively typing. “After all those messages I sent you this is all you have to say?” you muttered angrily beneath your breath. “I wonder which bitch has you distracted this time.”
But before you could send it, Sukuna’s voice cut through smoothly behind you.
Your body stiffened instantly. You slowly turned to him, already annoyed. “…Excuse me?”
His eyes flicked toward your phone screen lazily.
Your irritation immediately returned. “Yes,” you snapped. “That’s my boyfriend if you must know and we’re arguing right now, which means it’s none of your business.”
The second those words left your mouth Sukuna snatched your phone directly from your hand.
He powered it off instantly, then slipped it into his back pocket.
Your jaw dropped. “What the hell is WRONG with you?!”
But instead of answering, he stepped forward making you step back.
Until your back pressed fully against the bar. Your breath caught and then he leaned down slowly beside your ear again.
Close enough his chest brushed against yours. “…Ohhh, Y/N,” he murmured deeply.
The warming sensation returning back to your stomach, hearing your name from his mouth. “I think you have it mistaken, brat.” His voice lowered dangerously.
“Everything about you…” His hand rested beside your hip against the counter. “…is my business.” He said while tightening his grip on your side.
Chills exploded down your spine instantly. The heat that was curling in your lower stomach hit you so suddenly it almost made you dizzy.
And the worst part? You kinda liked it… Like some deep part of you recognized him before your mind could process why. Your lips parted slightly. No words came out. So instead, you turned sharply away from him.
“Nobara,” you blurted quickly. “Let’s dance.”
Nobara practically jumped up immediately. “GOOD IDEA.”
She grabbed your hand fast enough to pull you away before Sukuna could stop you.
Meanwhile Yuji stared at Sukuna like he’d completely lost his mind.
“…Dude,” Yuji said slowly. “What is your problem?”
Megumi looked equally disturbed. “Seriously,” he added quietly. “What the hell was that?”
Sukuna leaned casually back against the bar like nothing happened at all, eyes never leaving you for even a second as you disappeared into the crowd with Nobara.
Then finally--- He answered.
“She’s mine.” The words came out calm and certain like he was stating a fact.
Sukuna’s eyes narrowed slightly toward them both. “So stop gawking at her,” he said flatly. “Before I decide which eye I want to rip out of your skulls first.”
Then he looked back toward you…and his obsession only worsened.
Because there you were, laughing beneath flashing club lights while dancing beside Nobara, your body moving freely to the music while your hair swayed down your back and your smile finally looked genuine again.
Then you lifted your phone recording yourself making sure the camera gets all your good angles.
Sukuna’s eyes darkened instantly..Because he knew exactly who you were sending it to.
Jacob. That pathetic little human still poisoning your attention from across the ocean.
His fingers tapped slowly against the bar top. Annoyed…Violently annoyed. Because now, you still belonged emotionally to someone else. But not for long.
His phone appeared in his hand instantly.
He pressed a contact. Uraume.
The line answered almost immediately.
“Remember that idiot you mentioned,” he said calmly while still watching you dance, “the one who clones phones?”
Uraume on the other end immediately understood better than to ask questions. “…Right away.”
A second later, his phone dinged. Sukuna looked down at the contact information before slowly smiling to himself.
Because if Jacob wanted your attention so badly…Then Sukuna would simply make sure he had access to every single part of you first before he decides how he will remove him off the face of this planet.
The club lights blurred together at this point.
Your laughter mixed with Nobara’s while the alcohol burned warmly through your chest, your body loose and relaxed as music pounded around you.
Meanwhile, Sukuna sat back in the darker corner of the lounge section watching you like a predator watching prey wander too far from safety.
His phone rested lazily in one hand while the other tapped slowly against the leather booth beside him.
Across from him, Uraume stood quietly waiting.
“You wanted the device,” they said calmly before placing a tiny black machine onto the table. Sukuna barely glanced at it before his eyes returned to you.
Still dancing, smiling, completely unaware of the storm circling around you. “…Pathetic,” he muttered softly. Because you were trying so hard to distract yourself from heartbreak…and it was painfully obvious.
A few minutes later he approached you again. This time you barely even noticed him. You and Nobara were stumbling around laughing so hard you almost knocked into another group entirely. Yuji was yelling something about karaoke.
Megumi looked like he regretted agreeing to leave the apartment.
And while your attention drifted elsewhere, Sukuna smoothly lifted your phone right from your hand effortlessly.
He sat back down near the edge of the lounge and connected the tiny cloning device. A quiet vibration. Then it was done.
Now everything on your phone sat mirrored onto his. Messages. Photos. Contacts. Videos. Your entire life.
The first contact he opened..Jacob.
His eyes narrowed immediately at the sight of your contact picture. One of the prom photos. You dressed beautifully while Jacob held your waist proudly for the camera. But Sukuna noticed something off instantly. Your smile didn’t fully reach your eyes.
You looked present but not happy. His thumb slowly dragged across the screen while scrolling through more pictures. You asleep on Jacob’s chest. Jacob kissing your cheek. Jacob holding your hand.Jacob…Jacob..And more Jacob.
The irritation building inside Sukuna became almost violent. Then suddenly A text appeared.
JACOB❤️: Sorry baby. I’ve just been trying to process everything since you left across the country. It’s hard without you.
JACOB❤️: …I just don’t wanna get my feelings hurt.
Sukuna stared at the messages .Then laughed low and cruel beneath the club music.
“What a pathetic little creature,” he muttered. Then he typed back.
…send me your address i wanna send you something
Jacob responded immediately with his address…Of course he did…selfish piece of shit. Sukuna deleted the conversation from your real phone instantly before you could ever see it.
Then typed one final message:
He powered your phone off afterward. But the cloned version remained safely in his possession now. He now has every password, every picture, every message. Every part of you.
An hour later you were absolutely gone. Nobara was halfway hanging off Yuji while yelling the lyrics to some random song completely off beat.
You stumbled into her laughing so hard you almost fell yourself.
“I can’t feel my LEGS,” you whined dramatically. “I told you not to match Nobara shot for shot,” Megumi muttered.
Yuji looked victorious. “SEE?! I warned everybody!”
Nobara pointed aggressively. “You’re all fake.”
Megumi sighed heavily before stepping toward you.
“I’ll help her to her apartment.” But before he could touch you Sukuna was already there. He effortlessly hooked beneath one arm beneath your thighs while he lifted you over his shoulder like you weighed nothing.
Your soft gasp barely registered through your drunken haze.
“Sukunaaa,” you mumbled sleepily. “Your shoulders are hard.”
Yuji’s eyes widened instantly.
Meanwhile Sukuna’s hand tightened possessively beneath your cheeks.
“Let’s go,” he said simply.
Yuji awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. “We’ll take Nobara home.”
Sukuna glanced toward them flatly.
Then Megumi hesitated slightly. “…You’re not gonna do anything weird to her, right?”
Sukuna looked almost offended. “Why the hell would I touch her while she’s intoxicated?” he asked coldly. “I’m not some indecent animal.” Then he scoffed. “Idiots.”
And with that, He carried you out of the club.
The cool night air brushed against your bare legs while your arms loosely wrapped around his shoulders half unconsciously. By the time he reached your apartment, you were nearly asleep.
Sukuna pulled your spare key from your purse with ease before unlocking the door and stepping inside. Pocketing it so he can make a copy later..Your apartment was dark and quiet compared to the chaos outside.
He laid you gently onto the couch first.
And for a moment, he simply watched you. Your dress had ridden slightly higher from being carried while your hair spilled across the cushions messy from dancing.
You were beautiful. Still beautiful. Always beautiful. His fingers slowly brushed loose strands away from your face while memories flooded him all over again.
You sleeping against his chest centuries ago.
Your soft breaths beneath moonlight.
The way you used to curl into him unconsciously searching for warmth. His thumb brushed lightly across your lower lip. “…You came back to me after all this time” he whispered quietly.
You stirred slightly beneath the touch, a tiny movement. Sukuna immediately pulled his hand back slowly like even he surprised himself. What the hell has gotten into the King of Curses..?
Then after a long moment, he carefully lifted you again and carried you toward your bedroom. Then he removed your heels gently one at a time before laying you beneath the blankets.
Your straight hair spread across the pillow beautifully while your makeup sat slightly smudged from the night out.
Sukuna stood over you quietly, remembering…wanting. Then finally he leaned down just enough to brush your hair away from your cheek. “…I’ll come back tomorrow brat.”
The next morning…your head felt like death. You groaned loudly while blindly reaching for your phone beside the bed.
…All from Jacob. Your stomach dropped instantly. You sat up quickly opening the messages.
And then…your blood ran cold.
Because the very first image attached was you. Drunk…asleep over Sukuna’s shoulder. One of his arms hooked tightly beneath your ass while your dress had ridden dangerously higher from the angle with his face tilted toward the camera wearing a slow smirk.
Like he’d already claimed you.
Below it…Jacob’s messages flooded the screen.
JACOB❤️: WHO THE FUCK IS THAT
JACOB❤️: ARE YOU SERIOUS???
JACOB❤️: YOU LYING ASS BITCH
JACOB❤️: CALL ME RIGHT NOW
And suddenly…you remembered absolutely nothing after the club.
