PROJECT 5
I started with a quick gesture drawing to get down the basic shapes and then moved on to structure and then to line drawing. I feel like my proportions and shading are pretty good, but I do feel like I need more gradation and maybe some midtones. I learned a little more about how I like to shade and how I want to continue with my process of drawing.
For the theme, An Important Place to Be, I chose to do a self portrait because I didn’t have anyone else around to photograph. At the time, I had had a rough week and the sleep deprivation was getting to me, so I decided my important place to be was in bed asleep. I also chose to draw myself twice, one awake, and one asleep, because I have trouble getting to sleep sometimes.
PROJECT 5
I started out with a quick gesture and added structure as I went. I then did a line drawing and moved to shading. I think my proportions are pretty good, and I like my composition. I could use a little more work on getting the facial features and the front hand correct I think, as well as more shading. I learned a bit more about how to manipulate the charcoal to get it to work how I want, I also got better at working on the BFK paper.
I used an analog clock typeface at 00:00 to represent the point that time runs out and how my brain fails to comprehend time quite often. The background in my reference photo was my blank wall and I chose to keep it that to keep the focus on the figure and type. The theme inspired me to make a piece about my comprehension of time and how when I loose track of it, I’m often left with the clock at zero but still needing more time, putting me in a place of crisis.
