“It’s open, you may enter.” A voice called from the other side of the metal door, it sounded impatient and a little annoyed. Of course, Ida had been expecting someone from the biotech team to come knocking. She could only hope that this wasn’t a waste of her quite valuable time.

The Prodigy was sitting in an old revolving chair that had seen better days when he entered the room. Her arms were folded and her stare was the definition of cold.

“I am flattered that you’ve requested my help but what is this about? I’d also like a name to put to that face.”

—— ⏩ he enters with only a little hesitation, as he always does when dealing with superiors. and this, in particular, is marina, who’s like. really cool. don’t think too much of it, ace, she’s probably really nice actually.

well, the stare he gets isn’t exactly screaming warm and welcoming but it’s not like he was expecting that in the first place, cold stares are par for the course when it comes to weapons division folk. “right, uh, i’m ashton. most people call me ace. i was assigned to help design a new octoweapon and i was told you’d be a good person to have on the team.” 

he holds up the papers in his hands for a moment. “i’ve got the military-issued instructions right here, which is what we have to work with, and as long as we stick to the usual guidelines we can make it whatever we want.” ace knows the octoweapon regulatory guidelines by heart, having learned them very recently — has to have a domestic purpose along with being a weapon of destruction, has to have a compartment for the tentacle to hang out in, has to be blah blah blah, semantics.

there’s not a high chance marina will say no, but he holds his breath a little anyway.
