brighteyedaubrey:
Aubrey beamed when she complimented them on a job well done. Healing Quilson was one of their best accomplishments to date. It was what sparked their love of Herbology. The idea that maybe, just maybe magical plants can blossom better with muggle remedies and vice versa. It was a whole world of unexplored opportunities that Aubrey wanted to dive head first into. Plants and animals were two things Aubrey was passionate about. It was nice that just by sharing an experience with someone that they saw that in them. It made everything they had done worth it.
“Same!” Aubrey grinned and nodded their head. “Back at Hogwarts I’d have to be dragged out of the greenhouses. I could have lived there. Tried to once but it didn’t work out exactly,” They explained, laughing at the memory. “Took a sleeping bag and everything. Of course, I got caught by a prefect. My friend Cass tried to get me out of trouble but it didn’t work. I took the week’s worth of detention like a champ. To this day I still say it was worth it.” The mention of Dragonolgy peaked their interest and it had Aubrey leaning forward. Somehow they had missed that on the course list. “Really? I’ll have to see if I can get into that next semester I bet it’s fascinating. I wonder if the students in the course actually get to meet a dragon. Wouldn’t that be absolutely wild?”
Aubrey had been captivated by the idea of possibly taking a course on dragons that he almost forgotten that she had mentioned playing Quidditch. “So you play Quidditch?” They asked after a moment. Aubrey had never played before. Too many rules to remember but in the past they had been known to bet on the games and win a handsome sum. With a little help. “What position do you play? How long have you played? Oh, and because I’m purely curious and fascinated by the sometimes brutal sport…what’s the worst injury you’ve gotten from playing?”
Odd giggled at his story and could only imagine what the prefect thought when they had stumbled upon them. “In your defense, the Hogwarts greenhouses always did have a calm and cozy atmosphere, so I see the appeal.” She chimed in and nodded in understanding. “Ouch! A week? There have been worse things done by students with less of a punishment than that.” She made a ‘tsk’ sound and shook her head as she sipped at her coffee. She was greatly enjoying the company of the other, they held an air about them that was not only unique but a little mysterious and it intrigued her enough to want to learn a bit more about them.
“That would! Maybe they even have some sort of internship? Lucky students get to intern in Romania at the Dragon Sanctuary? Get some first hand experience!” Odd stated and slid some of the dirty plates she had to the side where the waitress waved a wand in order to have them float away from the table and into the back. “Another thing would be interesting is if they let you care for a dragon egg, could you imagine?” She shared his fascination with the subject of Dragonology, when she’d heard about the subject it had her wanting to take it but she’d held back and decided her focus would be better spent on her Quidditch classes for the time being.
“Used to.” Odd clarified, brushing back a braid that had slipped out from behind her ear, “I was a Chaser, started playing with my siblings as a kid in grandma’s backyard for fun and when I was accepted into Hogwarts I joined Hufflepuff’s team.” I thad been so long since she’d talked about her playing that it had a bit of a bittersweet feeling to her. She’d stopped talking about her actually playing and mostly focused on her wanting to coach to hide from the events that lead to her to stop playing and lead to her aching and broken body. “Worst injury...” She acted as though she had to wonder but she knew. It was the one that caused her to stop playing, the final hit...
“Actually I think the worst injury was my second to last game. I got hit in the head by a club from one of the beaters. An illegal move that had them kicked from the game and the second replaced them,” She almost smiled at how comical it all was to her now. How bad her Karma had been in that game was impressive. “Not five minutes after his replacement was put in did he nail me in the head with a Bludger and I was knocked out. Woke up three days later with a concussion and permanent hearing damage. Have to wear hearing aids now.”
thecandymn:
He swore he’d never be able to use anything his parents tried to teach him about healing. And he was not about to start saying that now. While it did come in handy, he was still a bit miffed he’d known how. But at least for her sake it wasn’t all for not. “Ya very welcome.” He smiled as he’d watched her inspect each of her cuts. It could have been so much worse and while he wasn’t sure he could have done it as quickly as she had, he felt more comfort in the relief she’d exuded upon finishing up.
“Now tha’s wha’ I like ta hear.” He beamed. It was rather admirable that her attitude didn’t seem to sour too terribly bad. If anything he’d wished more people were like that but then again he probably wouldn’t have found it as endearing as he had if that were the case. “Sho’s are always a betta option. Plus ya go’ the legs ta make anyone weak.” Bit cheeky he thought but still he’d meant it all the same. And he’d be lying if he didn’t say he was intrigued by a little while longer in her company. “I thin’ a bi’ o’ a smokeo migh’ jus’ be in order.”
“Odd?” He questioned as he took her hand and gave a proper shake. “As in ya name’s odd o’ …..” It’d dawned on him that perhaps it was shortened. “You kno’ wha’ leave me in suspense.” Isaac was more for the mystical and this one in-particular had a very sweet way about them. And if for no other reason than he didn’t mind a little discovery along the way. His hand slid in her’s and gave the soft digits a light squeeze. “An’ the pleasure is mi’ I assure ya.” It was probably a bit too much on the charm but given their already hectic circumstances it wouldn’t hurt.
Isaac took that moment to start their feet just before he’d left her hand go. Maybe if he’d acted like he knew where he was going it’d work out more in his favor. Not even that damn tour he’d taken from his house RA helped. But perhaps something in this would stick. Maybe. “So besides bein’ able ta pull all so’ts o’ creatures to ya, wha’s go’ ya back in here?”
Odd couldn’t help smiling at his encouraging attitude at her own calm demeanor. She just hadn’t thought to put the effort into being upset about it all. There really was no point and the more time passed the less she thought to linger on the terrible start to her morning. She couldn’t help but laugh at his little remark of her legs. “Well thank you,” Odd brushed back some loose braids from her face and gave a sheepish shrug. “Gotta work hard to keep them looking this good.” She quipped as she brushed off some of the dirt that was on her clothes and skin. “An I couldn’t agree more!” She could feel aches in her bones from the strain but chose to ignore it until she could get to her room for some of her pain medication.
Odd chortled as she agreed, “I can do that for you, no doubt.” She felt her face flush a bit at his charm, it seemed to come so naturally to him. It didn’t have her stumbling or thrown off guard. After the chaotic morning she’d had she didn’t think anything would throw her off for the rest of the day really. Besides she felt that he didn’t mean any harm with his charming attitude. When their hands released each other she took a few steps in the direction of the cafeteria, “If you mean back here on the trails, I enjoy a nice run before I start my morning classes.” Odd winked, a bit of a tease to the gentleman before shaking her head and looking forward at the trail.
“I’m back at university to try to learn some more Quidditch tactics. Want to try being a coach for the professional teams since I couldn’t make it pro.” She knew that stating she didn’t make it to the big leagues wouldn’t warrent any more questions. Why didn’t you make it? Was not a question she ever got when she’d state that she couldn’t make it to the big leagues and she counted on it. “Thought I would brush up on my Quidditch before I went out and really tried for the job.”
Odd couldn’t help looking back as staff members started to make their way to the troll and had it floating behind them as they lead it back to the creature quarters. “I’m glad that no one else got hurt, and the troll wasn’t hurt worse than the bit of damage you did.” She commented as she followed the trail she knew was going to lead them out of the trails and toward the castle. “How about you? What brings you here?” She inquired while turning to look up at her heroic companion.

brighteyedaubrey:
Aubrey nodded, feeling rather proud of themselves for the feat. “Yeah, I got it all healed up nicely within a couple of weeks. Surprised myself a bit to be honest. I’ve never had to do anything like that before. Scared myself a bit especially because his leg is so teeny tiny and I felt like my hands were giant and I would hurt him on accident,” The Raven rambled on and on. “I don’t mean to toot my own horn but….toot, toot. I was quite pleased with myself when it worked. I used a mixture of muggle vet remedies and also magic ones.”
Aubrey leaned over to look inside of their jacket, eyeing the little rascal who was sleeping now that he had been fed. “I know it takes time. I’m just impatient and it doesn’t help that I’ve picked an animal that needs to be won over. I’ll get there though.” They closed their pocket back up and turned to the other. “I do,” They said cheerfully with a grin. “I haven’t taken anything with magical creatures yet. I wanted to settle in first and adjust to being back at school. I’m majoring in Herbology. Aside from saving magical creatures in my gardens at home I…well, I tend to my gardens. I think if I have some free time a semester I might take a course on magical creatures just for curiosity sake.”
They tilted their head listened as she doubted herself. It was a curious thing to admit to a stranger and briefly, Aubrey wondered why she would. “I think you should take a course on magical creatures. I can tell by how you talk about Pear and the things you’ve done for her that you’re good with them.” They shrugged, setting their fork down in their bowl and reached for their tea. Taking a small sip, Aubrey shifted their body so they were turned to face her and they got her an inquisitive look. “And if you do take a magical creatures course…maybe I’ll see you there.”
Odd couldn’t help chuckling when they made the toot sound and nodded. “I’ve heard muggle remedies can be useful. Sounds like it could have been a bit challenging, I know some Muggle remedies can be a bit confusing.” Odd had personally known how confusing some remedies could be, especially the advanced ones where there were things such as procedures and surgeries. Then it was confusing with all of the extra details, the healing process. Everything. She knew if she was in Aubrey’s shoes with Pear though, she would have done whatever it took to get the little critter back to tip top shape. Pear was her heart, the little thing had stolen it and kept it when she’d left for college. “Especially since his foot is so tiny. Makes it even harder, I admire your patience Aubrey.”
“I see! Herbology was always a favorite of mine when I was in Hogwarts. It’s a good subject to get into, least I always thought so. You could possibly be good at Magical Creatures with how you dote on Quilson here..” She brushed back some of her loose hair from her face and pushed the dirty plates to the side as she started to work on the coffee she had in front of her. “Thank you,” She smiled at their words and shrugged, “I’m only good with Pear though, haven’t really tested my skills with other creatures. I’m more of a Quidditch gal if I do say so myself.” She mused, “I’m taking Quidditch Tactics, planning on being a coach, or an advisor. Something of the sorts.”
Odd took a sip of her coffee and couldn’t help feeling curious to know the person before them. They seemed nice enough, a bit eccentric which she appreciated. The quiet breakfast she had imagined having was not what what panned out and that was fine with her. She liked spontaneous changes in plans. “But maybe I’ll still try my hand at it and see you in a class or two. Did you hear they have a class for Dragonology as well? That sounds interesting too...”
Valen-puffs || Odette & Bryx
bryxwnlock:
For as off putting as the environment was around them, the two of them seemed to be thriving. Each happily chowing down and answering as well as asking their own questions. If he were being honest he hadn’t expected this night to go as well as it was. And that stupid smile on his face was very difficult to keep in check. Though he really didn’t mind that bit at all. And if anything it really only made him more comfortable, at ease enough to let this date continue to be good. All he could hope was that Odette was enjoying herself just the same. Bryx had an idea that just might be. Especially when she smiled at him like that.
“I believe that’s what they’re called. And any other sour gummi.” He agreed with a half a bite in his mouth. Chewing it up rather quickly just to wash it down with a big gulp from his drink. “Sorry you caught me off guard with actually getting that right.” He smiled brightly at the woman across from him. There were a million other questions he wanted to ask her. Hell he could have just sat there all night speaking to her but sadly this place would close and he had promised a more comfortable rest of the night. If it was like this now, he could only imagine the delight in her company when it wasn’t so formal.
“Funyuns?” He repeated, eyes narrowing slightly as he’d tried to think of what the hell that could even be. She’d said original so it was obviously something fairly popular. Sadly he couldn’t connect the dots himself as to what the hell she was talking about. It almost sounded like something that would be in their immediate world but he couldn’t honestly say he’d ever heard it before now. But something told him that he’d find out. She’d more than likely fill him in, that seemed to just be the sort of woman she was. At least from the little he’d gathered from their date so far.
Bryx took a few pickles for himself, munching happily when she’d asked. He simply nodded and gave her a thumbs up. He figured trying to chomp down and talk to her, twice, wasn’t the best of ideas. It’d been so long since he’d even been on one that he’d almost forgot the majority of what one was meant to do. He could thank the rest of his family for those failed etiquette practices. “It’s really very good. I am a bit curious though.” Bryx quickly took a drink, counteracting the salty, oily goodness he’d just consumed. “Was there a reason you picked these? Diet restrictions or were you just trying to see if I could effortless flow between the bitter brine and lush cabbage.”
“Sour gummi’s are good, sometimes though I can’t handle them. The really sour ones and then the sugar that feels like sand paper just...tears up the roof of my mouth.” Odd couldn’t help the small smile as they continued to chat. “But I’ve had Swedish Fish! They’re good, one of my top candies.” She didn’t eat candies too much only for the fact that she was a healthier eater. Having been in Quidditch since her days at Beaubaxton and almost entering the big leagues had her strict on her diet even after her accident. She still kept the physical regime of a Quidditch player, just not as intense to spare her pain getting worse and worse. She didn’t think that was something needing to be talked about on the first meeting, but if it came up she wouldn’t hide. He didn’t seem the type that would pity her.
Odd raised an eyebrow and had a small half smile on her face at his seemingly confused tone. “From the questioning tone I’m guessing you have never had Funyuns?” She asked and took a sip of her water to wash down the taste of the pickles and spring rolls. “Basically Funnyuns are like...chips in the shape of onion rings and they taste like onions. Make your breath smell terrible but they’re delicious. A popular muggle snack.” She reached over and took a spring roll from the plate and took a bite. The food was going quick and that was a good sign that they’d be leaving soon and on their way to new adventures. She thought it would be a better match for the two than the overly pink and romantic Madam’s. “My sister showed them to me when she began to explore the muggle culture more closely. They’re honestly so delicious.”
“Well diet wise I just don’t indulge much, and today is my cheat day. So I figured I’d treat myself with some pickles if possible and if my date was so willing as to allow it.” She winked at him before shaking her head, “No I just...have weird taste buds I guess so thank you for going along with it.” Odd laughed and finished off the spring roll she was eating. “Plus why not something healthy and something unhealthy all at once? Balance everything out, you know?” She teased him, reaching for one of the few lingering pickles left. “So...where do you think we should escape to once we have finished off these goodies?” She questioned with a tilt of her head, “I was thinking maybe...something fun.”
Odd took another sip of her drink and thought for a few moments, “...I don’t think the nightclub is either of our scene...unless I’m wrong?” She asked curiously before she thought of anything else the two could do. “There are two places...One is a Roller Derby rink and a bowling alley...which sounds better if either of them are even a possibility?” She asked with a smile. She was excited for the two to continue the night doing something they both enjoyed and having fun while doing so. A person could really know someone from that type of setting and she wanted to know him. She thought they were really connecting and it was a nice feeling.
To Share or Not? || Odd & Luca
luca-durmstrang:
Luca was immediately frustrated when he grabbed for a scroll that he was sure would get him extra points in his healing class only to realize someone else had reached out and snatched it at the same time. Luca was also determined that he was going to get it, regardless of who had hold of the other end of the scroll. Except maybe if it was….
But he looked up with a scowl on his face, his eyes lighting on a petite woman who was looking back at him with just the same stubbornness he knew was drawn across his own features. Not the person who he would have given in for. Not even anyone he’d ever seen before, and he’d paid attention to nearly everyone he’d come across since coming to Hogwarts. This was going to end one of two ways and Luca wasn’t willing to consider the option where he didn’t get the scroll for himself.
At this point it was the principle of the thing.
Luca said nothing.
The woman said nothing.
Luca tugged at the scroll, but the woman tugged back and the two of them stared at each other in mutually unspoken frustration. The male raised an eyebrow and looked down at the woman, wondering just who the hell had the audacity to stand against him.
Finally, he spoke. “I’m not giving it up. I need it. Find something else.”
“I’m not giving it up either. I need it.” She replied with annoyance laced in her words as she kept a strong grip on the scroll in her hands. She looked up at the incredibly tall man and felt her shoulders square off just slightly.
Typically Odd was always kind, never had much of an attitude but the scroll was important to her. If it could give any type of relief to her chronic pain she would take it. Even if it meant not being as nice as she typically was.
“If I recall I think I was the one who grabbed it first actually.” Odd claimed and gave just a slight tug to the end of the scroll. She honestly wasn’t really sure who had grabbed the scroll first, it might have been him if she was honest but her need for the scroll outweighed the truth. “Or...” She began and raised an eyebrow at the younger man next to her. “You could be a gentleman and let me have it and I’ll give it to you later.”
Odd turned so her whole body was now facing the man and she looked up into his face with no fear or signs of intimidation. She wasn’t willing to back down so easily to this stranger but she was willing to compromise if he was. “Look I just need to see if it’ll help with chronic pain. That’s all. Can I just...look and if I don’t get what I need from it, it’s all yours?”
Looking Through Your Eyes || Damari & Odd
damari-nnamani:
Damari left the quidditch pitch with a huge grin on his face. He passed out enthusiastic high-fives to the other Gryffindor players as they headed off toward the locker rooms for showers. The look on the tall male’s face made it clear he was happy with himself and his performance.
It was the first real practice that the varsity team had pulled together since school had started and the first time he felt like his blood had been truly pumping in weeks. In his head, a lot of his worries had fallen away and he thought maybe he’d made the right decision pursuing the one thing he truly loved.
He grabbed a towel from one of the tables near the field and started to wipe off his face, enjoying a second of solitude and peacefulness as snow fell gently down onto the pitch and himself.
If he hadn’t been working himself to the maximum, he probably would have been cold, but he wasn’t. His thin t-shirt and trousers along with his elevated body heat were more than enough to stave off the January cold that was still blanketing the university.
After a few seconds in his head, Damari started to walk toward the locker rooms. He could just as easily head to his flat in Hogsmeade to shower, but he knew that camaraderie was important and didn’t mind spending a few more minutes with the people who were going to be his best friends for the next several years.
He was taken a little aback when he noticed a woman, a strange and interesting sort of woman, standing just to the side of the pitch near the locker rooms. He shot her a smile and a wave before he realized she was speaking to him. Speaking to him about his performance on the pitch.
He stopped a few feet from her and listened, a mixture of confusion and intrigue crossing his features. “Wait a second, what were you saying about my speed when going for the goal?” he asked, looking down at the shorter woman and wondering how this was going to turn out.
@odd-ankot
She couldn’t help but be drawn to the Quidditch pitch. She loved watching the players fly around and practice, no matter what team they are on. She would watch and recognize improvements others could make and small details to help plays pan out for the best. It was addictive and in a way it was also unhealthy. She knew that. Her glory days were over with the critical slam of a bludger to the head and now she simply watched from the sidelines and lived vicariously through the players on the pitch.
She sighed, pushing some of her loose braids back from her face as she watched, taking notice of one particular Chaser and his skill. He was a large body, and his speed was good but she knew there was room for him to be faster, make tighter turns and much smoother tumbles and maneuvers.
Odd watched as everyone left the pitch, some stopped to talk to her as they recognized her from before and others simply passed by. A has been was not worth some players time and she couldn’t find herself angry about it. That’s what she was after all, a has been.
She noticed the Chaser walking by and spoke, though he didn’t seem to be taking much notice. He seemed to brush her off with a smile and a wave and she almost stopped talking before he spoke up, questioning her on what she said and she couldn’t help the partial smile on her face at the fact that he noticed.
“I said that due to your size you can increase speed by leaning forward on your broom. Practically press against it if you can, that way you have less wind resistance and you can keep up with even the smallest Chasers.” Odd commented and pulled her cardigan closer around her at a slight windy chill. “But make sure your turns are tight, if they’re wide you’ll give the Beaters a chance to send a Bludger your way.”
Odd gave a little shrug of her shoulders and leaned away from the fence she was leaning against. “Also...that last play you ran...if you move over to the right an extra foot as well as the Chaser on the far opposite side of you, you’ll have better coverage of the Pitch and a better chance of getting the Quaffle.”
She couldn’t help giving him a sheepish smile as she started to back away from the Pitch, “That’s just my advice, you can take it or leave it. Most people leave it.”
brighteyedaubrey:
“Not long actually,” Aubrey admitted to her. “Over the summer I was tending to our garden. My mum and I started it when I was younger and it’s been a tradition of ours. It’s huge and honestly it’s her pride and joy besides me, of course. Well, I was planting some foxgloves for my mum because they’re her favorite, and I fel-I saw something out of the corner of my eye rustling through a bush. I found him when I went investigating. His leg was messed up real bad but sure if he got caught in something or if something tried to get him.”
Actually, Aubrey could feel the little guy’s pain. It was the first time they had felt something that wasn’t human and it definitely was a new experience for them. Since meeting Quilson, Aubrey hadn’t another experience similar. Sometimes, they wondered if the pair were fate.
They poked a strawberry with their fork and brought it up to their mouth, chewing it slowly. “I brought him in and helped set his leg. Which was such a challenge because of how tiny their legs are. Magic definitely came in handy there.” Aubrey explained after they swallowed. They absentmindedly poked and prodded the fruit in their bowl with their fork. “Then I guess I just got attached to him and I didn’t want to let him go. Purely selfish on my part.” Aubrey glanced down at their pocket, smiling at the memory of meeting the knarl. “He might be grumpy but I adore him. Eventually I’ll break him down.”
“Poor baby...” Odd couldn’t help speaking upon hearing how they had managed to get Quilson. She was relieved that the knarl had at least found himself in the care of someone who honestly did have the creatures best intentions at heart and simply wanted to bond with him. “Well I’m glad that it was you that found him rather than someone or something else. His foot has healed properly since you’ve had him?” She questioned him as she took another bite of her breakfast.
“That’s a sweet story Aubrey. I’m sure eventually you’ll get him to warm up to you. Just keep at it.” She laughed lightly and took a sip of her drink before finishing off her eggs and such. “I’m curious...are you attending the university?” She asked with a tilt of her head, “If you are, have you taken any classes around magical creatures or are you interested in other things?” She was curious of her companion and seeing as their conversation on the knarl was drawing to a close she figured it would be interesting to learn more about the person.
“I’m enrolled there, but I’m not taking any creature classes. So I only know about knarls because of Pear.” She finished off the rest of her eggs and slid the finished plate off to the side as she started to work on her drink. “Thought I was considering taking a few side classes for them to learn more about others but I wasn’t too confident in myself.”
thecandymn:
It didn’t feel as though he’d done a good thing as she’d said. While he couldn’t deny if he hadn’t done something the both of them would have been in a very different state, it was still hard to swallow that he’d had to. Whether or not the woman behind him could understand that struggle was another matter entirely. And not one he was really ready to get into right then. The muffled nonsense the troll seemed to be muttering wasn’t something he could readily recognize, other than it felt incredibly sad. While she went on, Isaac took another moment to cast a temporary sleeping charm. At least the creature could have a few moments peace before the handlers or whomever came to collect it.
He’d finally been able to give the creature’s prey his full attention. She seemed sweet and very nervous. Understandably so. Isaac simply shook his head at her denying his help. “I insist.” He offered, smiling softly at her. It was neither their fault, just the result of all beings expanding and he supposed this was probably a little oversight. He ducked down on the spot, inspecting her scrapes. A few looked a little deeper than he would have liked. “Won’ take lon’.” He assured her, peering up a moment with a small smile.
“Episkey.” He whispered, waving his wand back and forth slowly. The gashes slowly starting to mend up as if the skin was so easily pressed back together on it’s own. His smile stretched a little more it wasn’t often that he’d caught himself in awe of the power they each possessed but in this instance it seemed a little more precious. “I don’ think I ca’ save the pants.” He told her, muttering the next to spell away the blood at least. Once he was satisfied with his handiwork he’d finally raised up to join her upright.
“Jus’ don’ forget that wan’ again. Would hate to see anythin’ tryin’ ta use ya as an after supper snack.” He teased lightly as he stowed his wand away for safe keeping. Perhaps he ought to see to her, the troll would be fine on it’s own at least for the next few minutes. “Let me walk ya back. Or at leas’ fo’ a cup of tea or somethin’.”
She didn’t know what was going through the other’s head, or the emotions he felt. She felt relieved that someone had come to help her and she hadn’t gotten into any type of worse trouble than she had, but she was also relieved that the troll seemed to be alright enough that when returned to the creature quarters it would be just as normal as it had when it chased after her.
“Thank you..” Odd spoke quietly as he took a better look at the cuts on her body. She had taken a nasty fall and she could feel the improperly healed bones in her body ache from it but there was nothing that the gentleman before her could do. It was something she had learned to handle and deal with but the sudden faded pain from the fall was greatly appreciated. “Thank you...” She was quietly watching him heal her wounds, impressive with his skill. She wasn’t at all good at healing spells personally, mostly skilled in charms and transfiguration so seeing someone with more skill than she possessed was interesting, and she couldn’t help but feel a little envious.
“No it’s fine, I can just cut them and turn them into some jogging shorts..” She joked as he straightened and she took a look at her now healed and cleaned leg. “Honestly, I do appreciate it. Right place, right time...at least when it comes to you.” She couldn’t help the sheepish smile she flashed at him, “Obviously wrong place, wrong time for me.” She teased, wanting to make light of the situation as much as she could as she looked around to see if anyone was on their way to come and collect the Troll though she was sure they would be soon since the man had sent a flare up into the sky. “I'll make sure I won’t next time. I prefer myself being put together in one piece.”
“I...” she didn’t want him to feel he needed to help her, worried she came off as though she needed it but at the same time he was kind enough to offer. “I live off campus but...I wouldn’t mind company over to the cafeteria honestly.” Odd smiled at him kindly. She didn’t know how she would convey her appreciation to him, and it had her wondering if he would even take any type of thanks from her. He seemed kind enough, his disposition from what she saw was very proper in a way and she felt almost intimidated by him but she wasn’t going to let it wary her away. “I’ll buy you a cup of tea to show my appreciation.”
She looked over at him and stuck her hand out in order for them to shake, properly introducing herself. “My name is Odd, by the way...” Odd felt rude for not having introduced herself earlier but at the same time there hadn’t been any proper time to do so. “It’s nice to meet you. Though it would have been nicer under better circumstances.”

If it were possible to just allow her to speak the rest of the evening with little input from him, he’d have probably allowed for it. If only because he’d found her insanely interesting. That wasn’t to say he didn’t think he wasn’t adding to this. Just … he was smitten. Smitten with the idea that maybe what he liked, thought or even just wanted wasn’t as crazy or backwards as he’d thought. Of course he’d found others that mimicked his interests just not with this sort of enthusiasm. She felt like a genuine person. “I don’t think everyone is meant for those kinds of mash-ups. At least not until they’ve been properly broke in by a few of the better versions first.” Bryx chuckled along with, shaking his head too. “You’ve got to know art before you can truly appreciate the trash aspect of it.”
Their food smelled delicious. Not to mention the little tid bits she’d left him with before it’d arrived. “Thank you.” He’d mentioned to the waiter as they left the pair of them alone again. It was odd to actually not mind someone eating. You’re being weird. Bryx cleared his throat and promptly followed her lead, taking first a pickle and then one of the rolls. Both warm but not enough to bother, the pickle first, a fair few chews and he nodded. “Actually those are damn good pickles.” He concurred, enjoying the flavor more than he’d remembered the last time he’d had them. Her question was rather curious. Rather than answer right in that moment, he’d opt’d to take a bit of the roll to give him a few more moments to think.
“I’d like to say I wouldn’t spend time scouring the world looking for it in that sort of scenario.” He spoke as he’d swallowed that first bite. “But knowing me I would find a stock pile and blow through it all too quick from excitement alone.” Which wasn’t too far off from the truth and there was no point in even hiding that. It’s just very much how he was. “Those little gummy fish. I can’t remember what they’re actually called. I always rip the packaging to shreds but I know it’s yellow and the fish are red.” He thought for a moment how ridiculous that had to have sounded. Feeling quite content with himself and her. “We’ve all got a vice of some kind. So would your’s lead you to uncertain death or are you one of those mind over matter enthusiasts?”
She liked the way he spoke. He was interesting and had fascinating opinions on things which made her eager to learn more about him, even if it was as simple as his favorite movies. He seemed to put some extra thought into things which she appreciated as it showed, in her opinion, a thoughtfulness that most lacked. She’d reached for a spring roll and put a little of the sauce that came with it over it before she took a bite. It was delicious. All the sauces and foods seemed to harmonize together well and she couldn’t help but understand why the place was as expensive as it was. The food was good. Or maybe it was the combination of food and the company she had to talk to while they ate their appetizers before they ran off to experience a more comfortable part of their date.
She couldn’t help laughing and nodded as she understood just the candy he was talking about, “Yeah, those are the....uhm...Swedish Fish, right?” Odd questioned, “But I think it’s smart, not looking for them and putting yourself at risk purposefully just to eat your favorite food. Thinking more of survival...” She took another bite of her springroll as he spoke and she took a moment to think of her own method before she swallowed. “I would probably be able to hold off looking for them until just...one day I really lost it and went looking for it.” She laughed, “My survival instincts would hold me back as long as I could until my taste buds told them to Fuck off and get me killed.” She joked and finished off her roll before reaching for another pickle, another dip into the ranch and another look of content on her face from the taste.
“But the thing that would kill me, the true craving that I would have and would eventually be why I died....” she took a moment, as if building up her reasoning but really it wasn’t she was just really considering her favorite snack. Finally she nodded and looked up at Bryx. “Funyuns. Original Funyuns would bring about my downfall, totally and completely.” She couldn’t help chuckling and reaching for another pickle chip. “A close second would have to be a Hot Pickle. The kind in the shops at gas stations?” She couldn’t help shaking her head and taking the pickle into her mouth and biting. “Those are great. I’d buy a box of them if I could.” She swallowed and took a sip of her water. “What is your verdict on our food choices?”
