sabrina is too gentle for a nephilim. at least, that's what aurora feels. there is strength in gentleness, sure, but it's a truth the morgenstern still struggles to see clearly. still, she finds she likes how quiet the faelim is ⸻ a welcome reprieve among people who are far too loud. so when she catches sabrina staring, it doesn't bother her nearly as much as it maybe should. the offer to sit comes as a small surprise, but aurora lowers herself into the seat anyway. ❛ what are you doing ? ❜

sabrina tilts her head just a little, eyes following aurora as she settles into the seat. her hands rest lightly in her lap, moving almost unconsciously as she takes in her surroundings. “just… watching.” she says softly, calm and even, with that steady warmth she always carries. “it’s nice, when it’s quieter. what are you up to, today?”

a cold breeze off the water unsettles her bones, a shiver threading down her spine. the witch pulls her coat tighter, herbal tea cradled in her hands ( small warmth against the bite of winter ) as she makes her way home, only to find the archangel waiting in her path. ❛ i'm afraid i only have a few minutes before this chill becomes too much for me. ❜ don't mistake her ⸻ aurelina loves winter. but home waits with its promise of a fire, her girls' laughter, and her husband's arms. and the pull of that warmth is hard to ignore ... however, she can spare a few more minutes.

tabitha is already shrugging out of her jacket before the witch finishes speaking, the motion unhurried, decisive. the cold doesn’t trouble her the way it should — it settles into her bones like a familiar ache, something long endured — but she notices the shiver all the same. “then take this,” she says simply, stepping close enough to drape the jacket over aurelina’s shoulders before there’s room to refuse. her fingers linger only a moment, careful, respectful. “you’re radiating heat like a candle in a draft. it’s inefficient.” a pause, softer now. “i won’t keep you long,” tabitha adds, gaze flicking briefly toward the glow of distant windows, the promise of firelight and family she will never claim for herself. there’s no envy in it — only acknowledgment. “a few minutes is more than most are willing to spare.” she leans back, hands slipping into her pockets, allowing the space again. the wind pulls at her hair, cold threading through her clothes, and she doesn’t flinch. “besides,” she murmurs, eyes returning to the witch, steady and intent. “warmth is easier to appreciate when you know where you’re going back to.”

he doesn't answer right away, deciding if he does want the company or not. most people lounge about the bridges leaning like teddy tended to do, and it threw him off for someone else to both be there, and offer to stick around. " sure, alright. " voice low, not quite warm but not as closed off as he usually is with strangers. " could use the air anyway. " and more socialization according to his other friends. " do you visit often ? "

tabitha tilts her head just slightly, the question earning him a long, measuring look. the wind pulls at her coat, cool and insistent, but she doesn’t seem bothered by it — only thoughtful. “are you checking up on me?” she asks, tone even, not accusatory. curious. as if the answer matters less than the truth behind it. at his scoff, the faintest hint of something like a smile touches her mouth. “then we won’t speak of preference,” she allows. “it’s a flawed metric anyway.” silence settles between them, deliberate, not uncomfortable. when he finally asks, she exhales — slow, controlled. “i’ve been alright.” she answers. honest. precise. “which, coming from me, is more than it sounds. how have you been?”

" is there someone around that will be able to take my order ? i've got somewhere to be. " they paused, head tilting once it caught up to her what had been offered. " advice ? what advice were you going to give ? " they can't help but to question it, now.

tara stills for half a second, hands dusted with flour as she looks up at selene, reading the impatience without comment. "neither, huh." a corner of her mouth lifts, faint but knowing. "figures." she flicks her gaze toward the back, then back again, unbothered. "there is, but you’ll be waiting either way." she wipes her hands on a towel, before proceeding to wash her hands. finally giving them her full attention. dough or not, she’s present now. at the mention of advice, tara exhales a quiet laugh, head tilting in mirror to selene’s. "nothing life-altering," she says lightly. "but nevermind that." a pause. "what can i get you?"

it smells as described, but that doesn't make it any more pleasant to the vampire's nose. ❛ i assumed as much. sweet and herbal do not go hand in hand all that often. ❜ an exception that comes to mind is tea ⸻ and while there may be others, amir is not an expert when it comes to mundane treats. ❛ would i ever make fun of you, tara? so quick to judge. ❜ he feigns disappointment, the sigh that falls from his lips a little too heavy to be authentic. ❛ but i rarely take interest in guessing games either. enlighten me? ❜

tara snorts softly, shaking her head as she stirs again, clearly unfazed by his dramatics. "oh please, your nose was judging it long before your mouth caught up," she says, tone dry but amused. "and for the record, i never said it was meant to be pleasant." she glances over her shoulder at him then, eyebrow arching. "tea’s not a bad guess, though i think i’d be insulted if that’s all you reduced it to." a pause, just long enough to tease. "it’s a dessert pastry. honeyed, herb-infused. dried fruit. grounding, not lethal. i promise." the corner of her mouth quirks upward as she turns back to the counter. "and i don’t recall accusing you of making fun of me—i'm just being dramatic." a beat. "but if you insist on being enlightened, you can try it when it’s done."

"if it’s more your alley, i could always offer a little treat instead," she says lightly, eyes flicking back to the counter before returning to him. "something sweet, something that won’t bite back. " her gaze sharpens with quiet amusement as his brow lifts, catching the shift in his tone. she lets out a soft laugh, head canting just so. "hm?" tara shrugs, playful and unapologetic. "depends what you’re interested in. culinary, magical… or the kind you only take when you already know you’re going to ignore it."

"she tilts her head, still kneading the dough. "judging by your face, maybe i should’ve warned you it’s an experiment." her eyes glint with a teasing sparkle as she leans just slightly closer, "want to guess what it is, or are you just here to make fun of my baking? because if so i'm already offended."

tabitha doesn’t look at him right away. she lets the question hang where he left it, suspended between them, like it deserves to be considered rather than answered. a breath passes. maybe two. “bear it?” she repeats at last, tone mild, almost amused, eyes still on the water. “i’ve endured worse than your company.” a faint curve touches her mouth — not quite a smile, not quite a challenge. “but i don’t confuse endurance with preference.” her gaze finally shifts to him then, steady, unblinking. she’s always been better at this part: meeting scrutiny without flinching, without yielding. “i wouldn’t still be standing here if i couldn’t bear it,” she adds quietly. she turns back to the city, lights flickering like constellations rearranged by human hands. “we were never meant to be social,” tabitha continues, softer now, almost reflective. “only efficient. but even optimization allows for… exceptions.” a pause. deliberate. “so yes,” she says, voice even. “you can stay."

𝐍𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀 hangover on a monday was the last thing anyone needed and despite not being able to stomach anything other than coffee , the hunger was beginning to catch up to her . she needed something hearty and slightly greasy , and she needed it now . the only place with any sense of urgency was the bodega : ' bacon , egg and cheese on a bagel , salt pepper ketchup . ' the shadowhunter moves through the aisles with ease grabbing a coke and bag of chips along the way , she bids the owner of the establishment ⸻ an orange tabby named gustavo , farewell with a scratch between his ears before heading back out . a bit too desperate to get something in her system , josie makes the 𝘚𝘛𝘜𝘗𝘐𝘋 mistake of unwrapping her bagel , ready to take a bite just as she's bumped into by someone , sending said bagel to the ground . or had she walked into them ? ❝ my bagel ! man , what the 𝗳𝘂𝗰𝗸 . ❞
