☾— IT’S entirely rare for him to wake up in a pleasant mood, and It’s entirely unheard of for him to stay in a pleasant mood past sunrise. Not even the piercing cries of children could dampen his frame of mind today! Or so he believed until moments ago as the bone-chilling shriek of his name is carried through a crowd of citizens and to his ears.
There is only one person naive enough to try for his attention this way– that nauseating, obnoxious, hideous Paladin he had not seen nor thought about since their excursion in the catacombs. He glances behind him to confirm his theory, and swallows thickly to keep his lunch from resurfacing as he spots Roland shining through the crowd. No God would be cruel enough to subject Vanitas to this man without Noé by his side, would they?
Vanitas curses under his breath and immediately turns on his heels to hasten away from him and into a densely populated crowd. Perhaps this would deter him enough to leave him to his own devices, or at the very least let Vanitas make his get-away.
† oh, that was odd. roland could have SWORN he saw vanitas look his way, and yet he was heading in the opposite direction. had he not noticed him? he couldn’t truly fault him for that, for the crowed was massive after all. at the very least, he definitely should have heard him though, but perhaps the churchman hadn’t yelled quite as loud as he thought he had. strange, considering that olivier had told him many times that his voice was impossible to not hear if he wanted it to be heard. he’s mildly disappointed, but only because he had considered it one of his HIDDEN ABILITIES since then.
he would have to start vocal training at some point to ensure that this didn’t happen again, but that was for another day. for the time being, his only priority is catching up with his dear friend!
dashing forward, the man begins weaving through the other citizens in search of his friend, determination in his step as he easily maneuvers through a large portion of them. he COULD use the drugs provided by the church, but he isn’t about to waste them just to catch up with the other. his natural speed would have to suffice. luckily for him, his training underground had made him faster than the average person, but he recalls that vanitas had managed to lose him back in the catacombs even after he injected himself with the serum. he supposes he’ll just have to leave it in god’s hands -- he would never abandon him in a time of need!
his prayers are answered mere moments later, because he finds vanitas scurrying away once the crowed begins to thin out. it’s times like these that he’s EXTREMELY thankful for the lord, for it seemed his faith was ALWAYS rewarded ( amen!! )
❛ there you are! ❜ the chasseur shouts as he LAUNCHES himself off a nearby wall and directly towards the other, instantly catching him in a warm embrace. upon landing, the man gives him a tight squeeze before releasing his hold. palms settling on his shoulders instead, he beams down at the other. ❛ vanitas, it’s so good to see you!! it’s been quite some time, hasn’t it! who would have thought we’d end up in the same place together!? it must be GOD’S will! ❜ he declares, wrapping his arms around the other for the second time, teary eyed. ❛ o lord, i thank thee for thy divine intervention -- ❜
