The worst of the worst who have no intention on ever improving.” Lisa knew it was still outside the scope of what was normal or good; considering the target didn’t live to tell the tale. “Some are. I’ve known too many of them to get that opinion changed now. Plus I’m extremely stubborn.” She responds with a smirk and a shrug. 

Zatanna listened to the woman, the corners of her lips raising slightly. “I know a few people who’s pictures are in the dictionary next to stubborn.” she shook her head. “But I’ve been known to change a mind or three. After all, how can you truly prove someone doesn’t want to change? Evil is made. Not born.” she questioned.

“I’m hurt, Zee, you think me to be insincere? Where you are concerned I have a never-ending supply of compliments” John teased her for a moment after all it wasn’t as if there were a whole lot of people who would get a glowing recommendation from him as she did. “Is it milking your generosity when I can clearly tell how much you enjoy me staying in one place for long periods of time?” He teased her following after her.

·         “Mhm the say way you’re constantly hurt.” she rolled her eyes, chuckling at his dramatics. He mentioned how she enjoyed having him around and she scoffed. “is that what you think it is?” she asked him. He was right of course. But it be a cold day in hell before she admitted that out loud to him. “Maybe I just know it’s good for a person to have roots somewhere.”

      Jason knew that. He knew that Zatanna cared about who he was, about Jason Todd, not the Red Hood, or the broken person he had become after his death and resurrection. She cared about the kid who was excited to follow in Dick Grayson’s footsteps and who wanted to protect the people who deserved it through any means necessary. “I know.” He said softly, unsure of what she wanted him to say. “It doesn’t change what I am though.”

 “ I never claimed it did. I just don’t care. And I don’t mean it in a dismiss your trauma way. You know that I get it.” she replied to him, goose bumps raising at her skin as the memory of being stuck in Jason’s nightmares surfaced. “I just..I wish you could see what I do. What the people who love you do when we see you. You’re so much more than this monster you think that you are.” she sighed, shaking her head. Gods, why did she even put herself through this. You know why her subconscious poked at her. She turned around, walking to take a seat. “Let’s just forget I said anything.” she shook her head. “I didn’t come over to argue again.”

     Damian wasn’t typically one for big displays of emotion or affection but he struggled to fight a relieved smile when he heard that she believed him. The youngest Wayne knew that he was right, but it made it easier that Zatanna trusted his instincts. “I’m not so sure that that’s really necessary, Zee…” he frowned, beginning to shake his head at the idea. Damian rarely enjoyed patrols that weren’t by himself, he always felt that he was too distracted. “I can handle myself” he sighed. “Oh, it’s absolutely necessary” And would happen with or without her knowledge an/or approval. “Want me to scare him off?” he smirked widely. “Because I will”

·         Well that’s alright because I’m completely sure that it is. If someone is good enough to make you feel uneasy Damian Wayne then I think that warrants being more cautious. Regardless the wounds to our pride.” she her actions were soft, unbothered as she reached for a candy on the coffee table. But her tone was firm. “You won’t find anything worth knowing.” she shrugged. “No it’s alright.” she shook her head. “You two would destroy my apartment in the process.”

     “Why would you pity a goat with two heads?” he asked, still smirking wide. Damian was feeding off of her annoyance, finding it amusing. “Adult goats headbutt one another in order to establish dominance or to send a warning message - now imagine the kind of warning that two heads would send” he explained before rolling his eyes. “TT. How very original of you, how long did it take you to come up with that one?”

“True. The testament would probably be your height. Something tells me you tend to be just out of frame in pictures huh?” she smirked. She wasn’t going to lose him on foot. She’d have to fly. It was worth it if it got him off her tail though. “Well as FUN as this was demon boy, I have things to do. See ya later spoty” with a two finger salute Yara went into the sky, not noticing the tracker Damian placed on her.

Lisa smirks and nods a bit at the other’s words. It was a sentiment that the metahuman knew all too well. “That’s life. There is a lot of trash out there. It takes time to sift through and find things and people that are actually worth something.” 

“Really? I find that quite the opposite. I like to think there’s good in almost everyone deep down. There is rarely a person too low for redemption. You must simply want it.” she shook her head. A glance to Zatanna’s closest friends was a testament to that. Though her moral compass was strong, she tended to gravitate towards those shaded in gray. “People aren’t inherently bad.”

Jerome frowned slightly. He hadn’t really thought about it being legal. That definitely wasn’t his style and never had been. But Zatanna had always thought better of him, more than he deserved. “I don’t even know who to ask,” he grumbled. “So it’s not like I could break their fingers or put out an eye or anything.” He was trying to find his brother but wasn’t sure how. Jeremiah was very good at hiding. He looked up at Zee. “I mean, not that I would.” A lie.

Zatanna knew what it was like to be away from family. She knew the twins’ particular situation was well.... a little less than conventional. And that was saying it nicely. “Or maybe we start by putting out an ad? Jeremiah likes to read right? Maybe he’ll see it. I know you want to see your brother but forcing your company on him may make things worse darling.” she tried to explain. It was why she hadn’t simply done a locator spell. Everyone deserved the right to go off the grid. And given what Jeremiah had been through with his brother....it wasn’t her place to force them together.

     Damian looked at her for a moment, weighing up all of his options before he gave a gentle nod. “Do you ever…I don’t know. Do you ever get the feeling like you’re being watched?” the youngest Wayne asked, green eyes looking over at her as his hand paused against Damian Junior’s fur. “Everytime I look for the source….there’s nobody there. But I’m not crazy, Zee. I can feel it” he frowned, shaking his head. If anybody wouldn’t tease him about this, it was her. “It’s driving me crazy” he huffed, trying to recall if he had heard anything about this Jon Constantine before. “And I will be running a thorough background check. Why does he need to be monitored?”

Zatanna frowned. Damian had a rough upbringing but on the very VERY small  list of good things that came from it, his instincts were one of them. If he thought he was being tailed, he probably was. And worse yet, they were good enough to not be caught. “hey, you’re not crazy.” she reassured him. “but you should be safe. no more patrols without backup. Someone to watch your back.” she said to him. “That is not necessary Damian.” she chuckled. “I know all there is to know about that man. And he was hurt a few months ago. He’s been recovering, though he may just be milking my hospitality now.”

John smiled softly looking at the other “Ahh that went straight to my head Luv” He teased her nodding his head allowing her to lead after all she was the one between them that knew where to go. “Well, that does give me more of a chance to be seen with this beautiful angel draped upon my arm this evening.” he mused holding her hand before chuckling softly “I mean mostly I just hang out at your place, but the House of Mystery is parked close should you really feel like giving this old bloke the boot.”

“Alright reel it in Casanova.” Zatanna rolled her eyes with a smirk. “You know, the never ending compliments start to feel insincere when you’re constantly throwing them out.” she warned him. Empty words didn’t mean much to Zatanna. She preferred action. “Hang out? So you admit you’e just milking my generosity?” she teased him as they made their way to the parking garage.

     It had been instantaneous; The way that Damian and Zatanna had bonded upon their first time meeting one another. A bond that had only grown stronger as time passed. The youngest Wayne wasn’t typically so trusting of strangers, in fact, he was usually skeptical until he had solid proof that it was safe or wise to be anything else. Zatanna had been an exception, for what reason Damian remained unsure, but it had reinforced the idea that he should always trust his own gut. “I’m not sure that there’s much to be said that won’t further infuriate me” he told her with a hefty sigh. “No? Did you get a roommate recently?” Damian’s head tilted as he eyed Zatanna curiously. “Are you concerned that I would not approve?” He definitely would not. 

“sometimes venting about it can prove to be the biggest help. Not all problems have solutions. But all deserve the chance to be voiced.” she said to him. It was something her father had once said to her when she would shut down. something she wished she never would have done. She wished she could talk to him about every and anything now. “Sort of. It’s not a permanent situation.” she said to him. She wasn’t sure how much he knew about John Constantine. She couldn’t see why he would be brought up to Damian at any point. But then again it wasn’t unlike Damian to run a complete background check on all of Zatanna’s romantic partners. “My friend John has been staying here while I monitor him.”

“So, um,” Lois began, glancing down at the freaking lion, which was small enough to fit in the palm of her hand. “You’re telling me you’re giving this to a two year old? As a toy?” She bent her head to look closer at the tiny animal, raising her eyebrows. “I mean, I know it’s tiny, but he also has tiny fingers. What if it bites him?” She paused, looking at the miniscule king of the jungle for another few moments. “Now that I’ve had my mom moment, I really, really want to pet it, and I also want one.”

“Oh they're completely harmless Lois. Have SOME faith in me. They are conjured not shrunken. He has the whole jungle, minus you know...blood and mess. I just enchanted one of those big baskets of animals.” she chuckled as the small lion roared. even though it resembled more of a squeak than anything. “watch this.nruter ot a yot” she spoke and the lion stiffened, it’s soft fur hardening back into it’s original plastic texture. “see? harmless. i can give you one if you want? I’m sure peter wouldn’t mind.”

John could clean up nice when he wanted to and after everything Zee had done for him he wanted to ensure he didn’t bring her down tonight as he finished he heard her call for him as he made his way to her. The very sight of her never failed to take his breath away as he watched her do a small twirl allowing a smile to grace his lips. “I think I finally understand why women who wear Red have been known to steal the hearts of men.” He teased looking at her “Zee You look perfect, I love seeing you in colors rather than something dull.”

“Thank you John. You look really handsome too.” Zatanna couldn’t help the faint blush that crept to her cheeks at his words. she cursed her body and it’s reaction to him. It seemed that against all her effort, John Constantine had found a way to slither his way back into her heart. Assuming he ever left. “Come, I’m afraid we should arrive the more mundane way. Never been to this place, don’t wanna end up teleporting onto a hot stove.” she said taking his hand and leading him towards the door. “You never did say where you were staying in the city..” she wondered suddenly.

❛ I don’t care what you are. I care about who you are. I think if anyone has made that clear it would be me. ❜ Zatanna frowned when Jason called himself a zombie. She hated when he referred to himself like that. Things between them had been....better since the gun range. She still had the urge to throw knives at his head at times, but it was usually lessened quickly. Mostly because, though she tried to deny it, she missed him. Not as a lover (though she’d be a liar if she said she didn’t miss that too) ,but as a friend. She told Jason about things she rarely if ever talked about with anyone. It was one thing to lose someone, it was something completely else to lose them and them still be right there. she was over losing people. she certainly didn’t want to because her pride had been bruised.

Zatanna chuckled at his statement, leaning back into the chair as she watched him. “I prefer for you to say you love me, but given that I have you suspended midair, I could understand the downgrade.” the corner of her lip stayed raised just so, eyes dancing with enjoyment. “Are we done stealing food from my apartment?” she asked.
