morganbright:
“yeah, definitely. i used the lost numbers though, so it might be cursed,” she deadpans with the smallest smirk known to mankind, but she’s still fiddling away with her bag strap. that is, of course, until charlie throws her arms around her, and the only thing that initially stops her from hugging back, is surprise. still, she’s not going to complain, and wraps her arms around her in return. to be frank, she’s mostly relieved it went down well; perhaps morgan is bad at gifts because she doesn’t really have to give them all that often, but a less depressing and more realistic answer is that morgan’s just bad at gifts because she thinks she is, because apparently her attempt at presents are worthy of being adored. who knew ?
watching charlie do the math and realise the offer is there until the ripe old age of fifty, sets off what seems to be the most satisfied looking smirk that brighton has ever seen, but in reality, it’s merely morgan trying to hold back laughter. “thought i’d give you some time to think ‘bout it,” but apparently it’s not needed, since charlie is already talking about throwing ideas around, but morganna can’t say she’s disappointed.
“i don’t have anyone booked for an hour,” she confirms vaguely; while breaks are needed, actually disappearing from the shop for more than twenty minutes on a regular basis is a rarity. an hour is an hour though, and they do need to get a move on, so charlie opening the door and allowing morgan to slip out first is wise. it isn’t until they start walking that she asks a: “good birthday ?” which roughly translates to ‘feel free to tell me everything in full detail, because i actually genuinely care.’
“we’ll just have to take that chance,” charlie replied, joking back. it might have taken her a bit to pick up on morgan humour but once she did, it was definitely worth it. charlie was glad the other reciprocated the hug rather than standing stiff like she might have anticipated from someone not expecting one. though any hug was a good hug, in her opinion. she couldn’t help being affectionate with friends, still considerably less so with morgan. when it came to gifts herself, charlie had the habit of them either being a hit or a miss really. perhaps it was because if the gift receiver didn’t immediately have a goofy surprised look on their face after opening, she considered them to not like it, though they might have fallen somewhere in the middle. if need be, she had nearly perfected her own feigned excitement to please her misled relatives. like anyone would really swoon at a poorly fitted knitted sweater.
charlie laughed. “well, i might end up using that time anyway.” she was indecisive by nature and had no idea which one of her family members had passed down that quality. probably one of her own doing. she might have to get a few temporaries before deciding which one would work for her. while she didn’t believe all tattoos had to be meaningful, it was a matter of whether they felt right for her. or rather things just had to fall in place for that to happen. “great, that’d work out perfectly! don’t exactly want us to have to scarf down our meals as soon as they come,” she replied as they started walking at a reasonable but fast pace to the restaurant, “you know, i might have to order a midday cocktail with brunch. my job’s a bit more fun a little tipsy, let’s be honest.” she had the afternoon/evening shift at blue moon in a couple of hours though, so chances are she wouldn’t even be a little buzzed by then. “really good,” charlie answered with a grin, “woke up to french toast and then mum and cam took me out to lunch and a bit of shopping. hung out and then neon, of course. i think they’d go out of business without me.”
xicmara:
Xiomara raised an eyebrow at her comment. “Oh yeah? I suppose if you surround yourself with the right people… or person,” she responded with a little flirtatious smirk. Flings were pretty much all Xiomara could handle. She still had some underlining feelings for her ex and she wasn’t sure what she was going to do about them yet. Luckily for her, she wasn’t looking for anything serious, so emotions were completely off the table. “You’re getting old,” she joked. Xiomara had a young face so when she reached twenty-five, she knew she wouldn’t pass it. At Charlie’s words, she lit up slightly, a wave of eagerness and excitement flowing through her. “Really? We should do it. I don’t work tonight so we could really do whatever. “We could go to the club if you wanted? I’m not sure what you had in mind, but that’s just my suggestion.”
Charlie laughed. She had a way of exuding confidence she didn’t necessarily have. Whatever worked, she’d suppose. “And a little bit of luck and good timing,” she teased, finding herself staring at Xiomara’s lips. Pretty girls made her weak. “Am I? I’ll have to start checking for wrinkles on the daily, stop smiling, and eugh, eat healthy? Old sounds no fun. If only we all could look like Julianne Moore,” she replied, mostly joking. Eternal youth didn’t sound too exciting either. Charlie had a small smile on her face at the mention of going to the club. “Like I’d ever say no to clubbing,” she said with a laugh, “Got to make use of this young body right? Dancing, going wild, maybe take me home after?”
morganbright:
now that’s an image – charlie and her mum yelling at the tv, and the thought alone makes morgan want to laugh, but she holds it back; this is clearly important to her, so morganna attempts to show a little bit of interest, using what vague knowledge she actually has, which isn’t a great deal, considering she’s only seen one season, and the rest is picked up from simply being british and having an internet connection. “they usually have a female companion, right ? you reckon they’re gonna swap it round ? ‘cause that’s kind of shitty. ‘s that dude from life on mars sticking around, or – ?”
Charlie thought over the question as it was definitely a valid idea, one she hoped the writers did not have in mind. “God, I hope not,” she replied, adding, “I mean, the Doctor has had male companions tag along with female companions before, but it’s never been strictly a male companion. I don’t know why they’d do that. Female-led shows are in.” She could name a handful off the top of her head. TV was in its prime decade. Why limit it? Charlie shrugged. “Not sure. You never really know with this show if an actor will return or not.” Charlie swiveled the straw of her ice coffee around. She could tell Morgan wasn’t as invested in the show as she was but was still glad the other could indulge her enough to listen to her ramblings. “But yeah, what have you been watching lately?”
novembeir:
His mouth twisted to the side as she spoke and his eyes blinked rapidly to stave off sleep. He had not gotten enough of it the night before. Fuck the heat. “I think it’s fantastic there’s finally a female doctor. I guess the next milestone is when the doctor stops being white. But uh…to be honest, this means so much more because the doctor is automatically gender fluid and non-straight since the doctor’s been in relationships with women before. I wonder if — since the Doctor’s now female — the Doctor will also be gay or at least bisexual.” With a sheepish smile, he added, “To be honest, I stopped watching it so frequently during Matt Smith’s season. Wasn’t keen.”
Charlie nodded enthusiastically. The possibilities were endless. How she’d give anything in the whole world to get to work on a show like Doctor Who, one she basically grew up with. “Right, right, right, it’s crazy how it’s taken this long, though I suppose not that long since we’ve only had Doctors 9-12 in the new series. But that’s still 12 white guys in a row. How is it that people are so open to the Doctor being alien but not to the fact that the character could be anything but white, straight, and male?” she exclaimed, a little louder than intended. She was sure the customers nearby were listening in at this point, voluntarily or not. “Well, understandable. Moffat took many liberties, less quirky and a little more full of itself. I probably watched more for Amy and Rory than anyone else. At least 11 and 12 had some great companions.”
morganbright:
morgan eyes charlie’s coffee, contemplating confiscating it for the well-being of all other brighton residents, but deciding against it; charlie’s excitement is kind of hilarious. “uh, i kinda don’t watch it, dude. i mean – i’m all for it ? that space fucker has changed, like, twelve times and he’s always been some skinny white dude,” not that a skinny white woman is much better, but in morgan’s own words: ‘girl power and shit.’ besides, at least number thirteen will be actually attractive in morgan’s humble opinion, which for some reason gives her bonus points.
“come on, morgan, humour me,” charlie pleaded, mostly joking (but also not). “you don’t really have to watch the show to follow the franchise at least. even i’m not particularly fond of twelve, but i stuck with it. though that may be because mum and i do enjoy yelling out our feelings at the tv.”charlie still couldn’t help but giggle at the ‘space fucker’ bit. continuing, “but exactly! it’s a step in the right direction, and there’s so many ways the show can go now if it doesn’t pigeonhole it’s main character like it used to.” as a side note, it also didn’t hurt that jodie whittaker was very attractive. charlie only knew her from that one black mirror episode, but she might have to watch all of broadchurch now in anticipation of the new season. she was very much excited to see what the new show runner would bring to it.
cvrbyns:
She’s glad to see Charlie standing in front of her; for a brief moment, their plans later had slipped her in the midst of a lazy day, the thoughts rushing back into her mind now that she has a reminder quite literally standing in front of her. “Sorry,” she says apologetically, mostly for the fact it had taken her a second to realize who it was standing before her, carding a hand through her hair as she puffs out a short exhale. “It’s been a slow day.” Corbyn glances down quickly at her watch, one of her shoulders bending in a half-shrug. “I’ve got maybe fifteen minutes left on the clock, if you don’t mind waiting?” Turquoise eyes flit after Charlie as she swirls around the shop, picking up a magazine and starting to flip through it. She hadn’t quite realized how desperate she was to talk tattoos up until now, the day’s pace leaving her practically deprived. This was a passion, after all, not just a means of making money to pay her bills ( although she is rather grateful she can do what she enjoys and get a paycheck for it, she knows how rare of an occurence that is and doesn’t overlook a blessing when it lands in her lap ) and she enjoys being here for a reason. Sliding down her seat and edging a little closer to where Charlie’s sat down, Corbyn keeps both of her hands folded in her lap as she listens closely, nodding when appropriate. “I mean, I can always sketch out a few ideas for you, go from there. Actually seeing it helps a lot of times. You can figure out if you like it, hate it, want something different altogether, the works.” She pushes some of her hair behind her ears, watching Charlie quietly. “Neon?” she repeats after the question, her eyebrows furrowing for a brief moment. She’s got no plans tonight, other than with her DVR recordings and a half-bowl of vegan cookie dough she made the other day. Charlie’s good company, and Corbyn’s comfortable around her, so the idea doesn’t sound all that bad. “Yeah, ‘course I am. I’ll have to change out of these shoes before we do, though.” She looks down at her trusted pair of sneakers; worn down to the bone and scuffed around the edges. While they’re certainly comfortable, they’re not her idea of dance attire.
Charlie nodded sympathetically. She couldn’t say Blue Moon had slow days very often, perhaps only when she worked the closing shifts did she notice a lull in the number of customers. “No customers I take it?” she asked, adding, “And yeah I can wait. Not a problem.” One would think being friends with many of the artists at the tattoo parlor would mean it wouldn’t take her nearly as long to figure out her third, but Charlie was hopelessly indecisive. Besides Birmingham-related ones, she also pondered over getting a Tardis, something Harry Potter (that’d make Morgan particularly happy she figured), a quote in her Gran’s handwriting, etc. Really, she had endless ideas. Still, she’d have to pick one at a time eventually, and even with a firm idea, there were many other details to be decided. Though as far as problems go, Charlie considered herself lucky. “That’d actually be great,” Charlie agreed, smiling back at Corbyn. “I just don’t want to put just anything on my body, you know? But part of me thinks I just should. Maybe start a sleeve all Ruby Rose-esqe,” she added, mostly joking. She flipped through the magazine until the end and grinned when Corbyn agreed to the night out. “Or maybe those are exactly the type of shoes you want on when someone happens to vom right next to you? Unfortunately speaking from experience.”
“so what do you think about the thirteenth doctor?” charlie asked, unable to wait for the other’s reply and added her opinion immediately after. “i for one am possibly the most excited brit there is about it. besides mum perhaps. i never thought i’d see a fifty year old woman as giddy about something than she was. it’d have to one day rival her reaction if i ever have grandchildren.” charlie took a sip of her coffee, wondering if she really needed the extra energy from the caffeine.

“And what’s the fun in asking?” she joked. Xiomara didn’t date too much but when she did, it was usually something casual. Charlie had been her most recent fling you could say. It was nothing serious but Xiomara was having quite a bit of fun with the other. It wasn’t all that easy to impress her but the other was able to do it. “Nothing has really changed since the last time we… hung out. What about you?” Xiomara had put Charlie’s birthday in her phone a while back so a week ago she got a notification reminding her of it. She hadn’t seen her in a while so she had pushed it in the back of her mind. “Anything exciting going on lately?”
“Oh, it can definitely be fun,” Charlie responded, almost adding a ‘if you know what i mean’ as if she already didn’t make it perfectly clear. She smirked. It didn’t seem like Xiomara was looking for anything serious either. Kind of worked out perfectly for the both of them. Charlie wasn’t new when it came to flings. Serious relationships with her were more of a rare occurrence. Though it didn’t stop her from enjoying the other girl’s company. Charlie caved and mentioned her birthday, not very upset if Xiomara did happen to forget. “Well, I’m 25. Officially old. Or I suppose just out of the 18-24 demographic,” she replied, “But overall, it’s been a good birthday week.” She didn’t know what else to say or rather if Xiomara would be interested in the gory details of how she celebrated, not that she did anything far from normal anyway. “I’m glad I ran into you actually. It turns out tonight’s plan free. We could do something or?” It was true she had been planning to go to Neon, but it seemed better if the idea came up organically for the two of them to do. Or Neon could very well wait another day.

Her response made Tristan roll his eyes at her - who said he wasn’t allowed to put a modern twist on a classic? “Beer is for weak people who can’t handle proper alcohols, my friend. That’s not how I roll,” he replied, the grin on his face ever present and rather arrogant.
“That’s probably true, though I also don’t like most beers. If anything, it’s hard cider, rum, or shots of tequila for me. Also don’t mind the occasional margarita,” Charlie replied, not caring too much to argue over a meme. She wasn’t terribly fond of his attitude, but she figured it could also be just how he was when getting drunk. “All right, one shot, I’ll do it,” she caved, waving at one of the bartenders who was currently busy mixing someone else’s drink.
