My take? Know the event you are attending. Know how big the event is, know its location, know who attends it, the general vibes and the time your attending.
There's a general unspoken rule that if the sun's out, the kids are out (which applies to most events and places. They say go to the big rides in amusement parks early in the day cause the kids are all out but if you wanna ride something aimed at kids, go later once theyve all come home.) and you shouldn't have to be told that 9 am at a vendor based pride event in the main square of your little town with an attendence of 2,000 max isn't the place for your pasties and dildo-bike and pup mask but a massive concert-venue-turned-pride-event serving alcohol with massive drag performances at 2 am is probably the scene your looking for. Know wether your pride event is a family event or not.
Is your local pride more of a farmer's market of local Etsy LGBT pple selling pins and local businesses showing support? Its not a music venue. Dont come in screaming and decked out in explicit shit cause there's kids running around and that is not appropriate. Period. Thats a family pride event, come dressed like children will see you. If it's a massive affair with over 1,000 vendors and performances on a massive stage and 60 food trucks and alcohol on every corner and a 20,000+ attendence in a major city? Feel free because that is clearly an adult centered environment and an appropriate place to wear stuff like that. If a parent brings their kid to a space like that, that's their fault.
I don't think a one size fits all answer for kink at pride but some of you are actively ignoring that kink gear is inherently sexual and showing children things that are inherently sexual is not just grooming but a crime. Know the event you are attending and dress accordingly.
I've attended 5 prides in my life and they took place in only 2 places: Cincinnati and Gettysburg. Gettysburg is a small pride of maybe 50 vendors in the main roundabout. The main event is advertised as a family event and even though there are some drag performances, they are not on stages, are very small and the drag queens are dressed only alittle sexual, cleavage and thighs, not bare ass. People who show up one year in kink dont show up in it the next because organizers tell them not to (there are children around, its 1 pm and its a family event) or they get enough stares they realize its not that kind of pride event. It doesn't need to be and they arent " sanitizing our history", you little keyboard activists. There needs to be family sfw pride events for young lgbt children and gay parents and their kids. There's better places for that behavior and they do a bar crawl after pride that night where that behavior and clothing is actively welcomed...
Such as Cincinnati pride; a major metropolitan city pride taking place at a concert venue with thousands upon thousands of attendees and lots of alcohol. Thats more the scene your looking for.
I think what you need to understand is thay just because its part of our history dosent mean it needs to be at every pride event. Ive been called a conformist gay trying to appeal to straight people cause I said kink is sexual and sexual stuff has no place infront of children. I dont think someone showing up to cincy pride on a leash is giving us a bad name, I think you need to be aware of whose attending and event and not make it an unsafe place for kids.
