he gave the other a cheeky grin and said, “i actually do. i wake up every morning and tell myself that.” owen had to admit that out of everyone that he had met so far, oliver had been the easiest to talk to. he didn’t seem to mind all of the quirks that came along with being owen. even before the world when to the dead, he’d had trouble finding that. “hey, i do think about them…afterwards,” he said with a laugh. owen gave the other a soft nod. “yeah, i know i wouldn’t want my mom to go out this way,” he said. owen had been playfully wiggling around in an attempt to break free, and when oliver let him go he pretended to take it as his own victory. “i’m sure i can escape,” he said with a grin. his attention turned to the biters that were aimlessly wandering around the clock tower. from what he could see there were four out in the open. however, owen was sure that there were a few more out of their site. his palms got sweaty. he now was face to face with the fact that he may have to kill them. owen pointed to the side of an apartment complex; a spot hidden from the biters’ view.
his voice lowered, “there are quite a few. if i can get one of them to follow me i can trap it.” he quietly walked the width of the building and quickly peeked into the ally way. thankfully it was an apartment complex that had fenced off backyards, and each one had a gate door that lead to the ally. however, it was a wood gate, so owen couldn’t clearly see through them. “hmm,” he said to himself. the fence reached a few inches over owen, he cupped his hands and looked through the cracks. it looked clear. “i’m going to check it out,” he said. he jogged away from fence and then stopped after he was a few feet away. owen could have simply ventured into the ally and opened the wood gate, but that could be locked. he gave oliver a wide grin, “watch this,” he mouthed.
he ran to the fence with smooth strides. when he was a few inches away from it he jumped on the wall. the ball of his left foot and his right hand coming into contact with the wall first. he used this momentum to propel himself further up the wall. his left hand reached the top of the fence and he pulled himself over. he landed with a roll, and then popped up looking around to see if there were any biters. there was nothing but small patches of overgrown grass and a few rusted backyard seats. he made his way to the fence gate and opened it. he poked his head out and when the coast was clear he made a bird call letting oliver know that he had made it. owen waited by the opened fence door for oliver. he looked around, he’d want to check the apartment for biters, but other than that, it would make a good place for a trap.
