He cares for this monster? She has seen many sides of Voidster, but he had never shown her any care. It sounds like he is treating G less like a pet, and more like…a mate. Like her G, the one who had first found something to love in Voidster.

“I see…”

Is this the reason Voidster has been so different in the months before he finally left? She had thought it was just guilt from hurting his mate, but what if it was something more? She knows Voidster had always wanted her to be more obedient, more subservient, more devoted to him. What if he had found a pet who was all of those things, and this was the result? A pet he didn’t have to force, a pet that sounded like…

“It sounds like you love him,” she says softly, uncertainly.

The blush deepens at her observation and he glances to the side, a claw hooking on the ring of his collar to play with in the wake of a sudden embarrassment.

‘Love him? I– Well, I mean. I. Care for him, deeply. Yes, I…I suppose you could say I love him. His ferocity, his strength, the way he commands. But, also… That tenderness he doesn’t show. His silent words. How he smiles when I please him. Heh, the way he pouts when he doesn’t get what he wants right away. There’s so much more to him that– T-That folks can’t see, don’t pick up on.’ Perhaps it was easier for the Eldritch to do so given his perchant for a more animalistic nature.

Even when she had been under his control, she could not have forced the genuine warmth and care with which G spoke. She had done what Voidster had told her to do, and she had hated every second. He had known that. 

And this meant...G wasn’t brainwashed. Voidster could force people to do what he wanted, he could manipulate their minds and souls to suit him, but he couldn’t make anyone love him. However he had treated G, whatever had happened since the “kidnapping and torture” event, she couldn’t guess. But the effects were as clear as day. She hadn’t even heard his mate speak so fondly of him.

“Just...just be careful, okay? What happened with G- I mean, with his mate...it was really bad. And nobody saw it coming. He went into his rut...” She blushes, and quickly continues, “You know...when a monster goes into heat...And he just went crazy. You seem nice. I don’t want you to get hurt.”

Do you have any friends that know what’s happening? I mean…I guess that’s a stupid question. He always cuts people off from their friends. The hypnotism doesn’t work if there’s someone else to interfere…I’m sorry.

There’s confusion at her comments.

‘Oh, yes, I am pregnant! But…he hasn’t brainwashed me. The Greyfaces seem to think he’s kidnapped me and…did what have you. Well, I mean he DID kidnap me. And torture me. But that was before. Things are very different now and I don’t think he’d do it again. Ah, uh, yeh, my friends– …They know, yes. And my husband.’

‘…You. You don’t have anything to apologize for. You haven’t done anything wrong.’

“Oh.” 

She seems unsure. G isn’t behaving like she had expected.He doesn’t seem to be suffering, he doesn’t seem to be fearful, and he’s saying that his friends and husband know about Voidster. That isn’t possible.

“Then…what is Voidster doing? You say that things are different, even though he kidnapped and tortured you? I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. He isn’t isolating you from them? He isn’t hurting you?”

There’s that familiar blush that always creeps up when he talks about Voidster.

‘O-Oh gosh, no. He doesn’t isolate me. Admittedly, he doesn’t like me being out right now and he gets huffy about it. And he’s not too keen on how many folks I know. But I don’t blame him on that given my past experiences. And, as far as being hurt, he, uh…Heh, I mean, outside of being punished, he doesn’t hurt me anymore than what I ask for… And it’s different, yes. He. He cares for me.’

“Oh, I dunno... just like... we watch movies together at night. He’s taken me out of the house a few times to run errands. We still eat meals together, but they’re nicer without Voidster. He talks to me like I’m a person, maybe even a friend. He checks on me a lot, and he includes me in his life. I still don’t know what their research in the basement was about, but that’s probably for the best.”

“No, not really. Voidster has been really distant lately, since everything happened... And then a few days ago, G told him to leave. I thought for sure they would fight, destroy the house, maybe kill each other. But Voidster just left. He didn’t even harass me about it or get angry. He just told me to take care of G. I almost feel bad for him.
