Kurt Vile - In My Baby's Arms
Geoff Farina - Special Diamonds
Ten years. Ten years since I first heard this song, and it's still so damn perfect.
chewyfally:
Remember The Capsules? They’re heading back into the studio to record a new album. Got so excited that I wrote up this little piece on them (click on the photo to go to the article).
Woohoo!!!
The worst festival name with the worst headliners is still a good show
Recently added to the Kanrocksas lineup:
Best Coast
Ok Go
The Joy Formidable
Ween
The Black Angels
Which already included:
The Flaming Lips
The Black Keys
Jack's Mannequin
Fitz & the Tantrums
Girl Talk
I care not one bit about Muse or Eminem (who are headliners) but that's a pretty good list for an inaugural event. It feels like they're trying to re-build Wakarusa.
The Anniversary - The Heart is a Lonely Hunter
I had just moved one town over to Lawrence, Kansas to start my college career. Damn the music scene was good.
From an Airplane window by Meredith Norwood- (song: Neko Case "Star Witness")
Soft Reeds - This Affair
One of my favorite KC bands right now. The album is solid. Pick up the digital for $10, or listen to it on Rdio.
Did I tell you guys I went to see The Joy Formidable at The Riot Room in KC last Saturday? They are fantastic. Ritzy comes off as a veteran frontman and their sound is well-rehearsed with plenty of room for improvised riffs.
They are the real deal, producing their own first album and creating something that sounds new out of classic stylings of dirty guitar and heavy bass strings. I loved it. One of the best shows I've seen lately.
They said they'd be back; I'll be in the first row.
The Mountain Goats - Itzcuintli-Totzli Days
I can't help myself. It has nothing to do with Easter, but it gets in my head every year. I have a simple mind.
i hear the pads beat, loud as drums.
i know he's coming. let him come.
chorus
let the big big rabbit come out.
let the big big rabbit come down.
let him cast his shadow on the bright face of our little house.
let him dance through the garden.
let him come.
it's getting darker, as the sky grows colder
and i feel your hand on my naked shoulder.
praise god i know you're with me. i know you're here.
i can feel you breathing. i know you're near me.
ok
Phosphorescent - The Mermaid Parade
He'll be playing at the Jackpot Saloon tonight. Why would I sleep if it would make me miss this?
tUnE-yArDs - Bizness
New album on the 18th!
So, Jordan Geiger (of Hospital Ships) and Katlyn Conroy (of Cowboy Indian Bear) collaborated to give you this Daniel Johnston cover. All three are going to be at Middle of the Map Fest this weekend in KC. Show this video some love by clicking on the photo, because when local musicians collaborate, it really is a beautiful thing.
There is something so wonderful about musicians that appreciate their fan's physical experience of their recorded music. Artists who take the time to build a spiritual room in which the listener can completely envelope his/herself in the new sound. Vinyl, cassette tapes, handwritten liner notes... there is still nothing else like it.
Many thanks to The Mountain Goats and Merge for creating this package. What a mood changer.
Destroyer - New Ways of Living
As soon as I get off of work, I'm hitting the road to see Destroyer in St. Louis.
That's 4 hours driving there and 4 hours back so I can get back to work tomorrow.
So, so very worth it.
Gentleman Jesse and His Men - All I Need Tonight (Is You)
What can I say, sometimes I feel romantic.
