it’s not anyone’s job to educate you. you are not entitled to their time. if someone is privately blogging in their own free time, they are not required to explain their every thought to your willfully ignorant ass in order for their opinions to be valid. often times, anti-sj(w) assholes jump into an intracommunity discussion not knowing basic ass concepts that everyone else knows, so they don’t need to discuss them, and demand that their hand be held. because, again, it’s an intracommunity discussion, and you wouldn’t expect a bunch of stock brokers to begin every conversation by defining what the stock market is for each other

tbh i think people like this, as usual, don’t quite understand what the whole “it’s not my job to educate you” thing is, as in, how it’s usually used, and in what context.  they’re applying it to contexts where it doesn’t really happen

i’m not sure if this makes sense, or how to make it any more clear to the op than what the previous person said - which is pretty much the major context.  either that, or, someone asks a really simple, ignorant question, and they don’t even belong in that group.  like, at all.

but instead, i think the op is applying it to a different context, that doesn’t happen.  from their responses, and what i’ve heard other people argue with similar stances, it’s like, they get the impression that someone has engaged someone else, not in their group, in a complex discussion, and then snaps at them when the person is confused.  insteaad of how it usually happens: someone who does not belong to a group enters a discussion without being wanted or invited in that discussion, or, someone (who again, doesn’t belong in that group) asks a question that can be easily googled to someone who is blogging about it and is a part of that group

or maybe they get the impression that even when people in-group ask questions about something because they are confused for whatever reason and don’t have a full grasp of all the nuances, other people snap back at them angrily.  in my experience, i’ve only had this happen once - i was only 19 years old at the time, and didn’t quite understand what was being said.  i later apologized, because admittedly, i felt like i shouldn’t have said anything in the first place without doing some reading, and i didn’t know the people who were involved personally.  i was a part of the group, but i didn’t quite understand enough yet.  but besides that, i’ve never had it happen.  and i’ve never, ever seen anyone engage someone who isn’t part of a group in discussion about issues in that group, then snap at them because they were confused/asked a question

and also, i don’t get why this is so hard to own up to, either.  to just accept that you should have read some shit yourself before commenting on a topic, or that you shouldn’t have even commented at all if you’re not part of the group. i mean, do you have a need to express your opinion everywhere you go, regardless of whether it’s wanted, or whether you know much about it, or whether you even belong to that group?   sometimes when i read about things, including in groups i belong to, i have an initial reaction to it - an opinion - but i realize i don’t know much about it, so i don’t comment.   and if i’m not a part of that group - i just know it’s not my place to comment.  i have trouble understanding why it’s so difficult to accept.  even during that incident i described, when i was an adolescent, i realized i shouldn’t have commented on something i didn’t really understand, and that i should have read more about.  yeah, it hurt at first - i was a little angry.  but i got over it, realized it wasn’t the place for me to say anything, and apologized.  it’s not hard. 

i can’t help but think, how big/delicate is your ego? is it shattering your world view that you aren’t entitled to everything, and/or don’t know everything?  that’s how it always comes off to me.

tbh, in my personal observation, many people are relatively nice when people ask a question, and often give sources or explain.  it may just be what i’ve seen, but usually people are reacting that way for a reason: you’re being a dick, you’re not welcome in the conversation, it’s clear that you have some other motive besides just wanting to “debate” the issue or simply ask a question (i get so sick of hearing this, too: “i am just trying to discuss/debate the issue logically/i am just asking a question” when that’s rarely what anyone - who says that - is actually doing, and it’s very obvious.  actually, i can’t think of any examples where that isn’t the case)

either way, this has nothing to do with someone just “expecting people to agree with them”.

i have only come across someone like that a few times.  people like that usually don’t exist, and they usually don’t care about social justice.  in fact, they may be trolls, if anything (in this case, it’s a person who pretends to be someone they’re not just to get reactions from people.  it is done for entertainment in their mind and no other real reason).  i’ve noticed, a lot of times, people have never actually met someone who is truly like that - they have merely heard about people like that, and then may apply it to people who that generalization/stereotype/idea doesn’t fit at all, although it may seem that way, especially if you don’t personally understand what that person is going through, their experiences, and where they’re coming from.

context is important - like your post, i don’t think anyone would have ever realized you were being sarcastic, or even what you meant when you wrote it.  and there is a lot of context here - people are used to hearing what you said, over and over, from people who are talking about something entirely different, and from a certain kind of person.  usually that person is a jerk, very rude, and is often saying things to get a reaction from people.  they are arguing just to argue.   it gets exhausting, and tiring.  it’s very important to keep in mind someone else’s point of view, their experiences, and their life.  it can drastically change the context of what you’re saying, and how someone else might interpret it, and how they might react.   which is why, in my experience, it’s pretty much a good idea not to comment on things you may not understand, know much about, or be personally involved with.

this is a complicated issue to explain, so i hope i have explained it simply enough.

The whole, “It’s not my job to educate you.” thing is what someone says when they know they have no valid, fact-based point to make or when they know the person they’re talking to is going to see through their bullshit right away. The type of people who usually use this are those who will jump at the chance to tell you how oppressed they are, who make a huge deal about the rights of “marginalized groups” while not being a part of any of the groups they claim to fight for, who will try and get another person in trouble because they told a joke that could possibly be considered sexist if you REALLY think about it, who will proudly call themselves feminists or equal-rights advocates while shitting on any person who doesn’t hold the same values as them and sending hate mobs after those who dare disagree with them, who will freak if you don’t put a trigger warning on your image of a cheeseburger; PC, SJW, Feminist, Activist. Pick any, they all do it.

because people are afraid to go to the police.  they are afraid to go to hospitals.  because they are mocked.  because rape kits are not used. because rape is traumatizing and can cause people to experience dissociation, which can last hours.  because of a lot of reasons.

after i was raped, i went to the hospital because i sat having panic attacks for six hours.   the trauma caused me to dissociate during the event, and fucked me up for hours after it happened.  i didn’t know what to say or do.  i could not think straight.  my brain was trying to process what happened.  if you don’t understand how this works, then go study some psychology (more specifically, biopsychology) and come back to me.

i finally went to the hospital six hours later.  i was too afraid to contact the police, thinking i would be mocked and harassed, as this has been my experience with police all my life, because of being mentally ill, despite never being a threat.  imagine being a black woman, can you imagine how afraid she would be to go to the police? much more afraid than i was

so i went to the hospital.  they called a social worker.  they did not use a rape kit on me, and this was a well equipped, nice hospital, so i’m sure they had some.  the did not contact the police.  they did not even ask if i wanted to make any legal claims.  the social worked made fun of me to her student/intern who was “observing”, right in front of my face.  the doctors didn’t believe me.  no rape kit.  no offer of legal assistance.  doctors, nurses, and social worker did not believe me and even made fun of me.

this happens more than you think.  go look up statistics on how often rape kits are used, how many rape kits sit around never being used when they could.  i’m too busy to deal with looking up shit right now.   rape victims are too scared to go to the police, because they are abused, mocked, blamed, and not believed right off the bat.  too scared to go to hospitals for the same reason.

so gee, i wonder WHY there isn’t any evidence? jesus, wow, this is hard as hell to figure out.

When there is a serious lack of ANY type of evidence, a major lack of consistency in the accuser’s story, evidence that actually points to the innocence of the accused, and motive to falsely accuse/gain occurring because of the accusation then it’s pretty ridiculous to blindly believe the accuser or blindly hate the accused.

First of all, I didn’t brush their experience off. This thread started with a post that basically said we shouldn’t take certain pieces of evidence, testimony, and behavior into account in rape cases. My reply wasn’t referring to Witchlockmonsterfox’s experience, I was speaking generally in terms of rape cases we’ve seen in the media with those types of situations within them. Second, I KNOW about Witchlockmonsterfox’s past, intimately. We dated, it didn’t end awesomely, but during the time we were together they shared a lot of the bad things that happened in the past with me, that being one of them. Finally, I think it’s absurd that you think being a rape victim means somebody owes you something. I think it’s great to donate to organizations that help rape victims, battered individuals, etc. and those are all things that, when able to, I do. However, telling some person you don’t even know that they should pay another person money simply because they’re a rape victim is ridiculous. It’s also ridiculous to decide that I’m insensitive because I think that ALL criminal cases, including rape, should be tried fairly with all evidence or lack thereof taken into account. Also, you don’t know anything about me. I was raped twice during my first year of college. I just choose not to broadcast that fact, but you want to attack me for my opinion, one that wasn’t even about or direct toward any specific individual and then act like I owe the other people on this thread something, and why? Because my opinion differs from yours? Because, instead of actually speaking civilly or asking me what my personal experience was, you just decide to be rude to me. I couldn’t POSSIBLY have any understanding of rape or what anything like that is like, you just KNOW that about me. My little diy-ish jewelry area. Square panel wall hook from World Market for necklaces and bracelets. Clothes pins covered in burlap from Target for rings. (And small bunches of fake flowers.) I know the purple flowers in the last one makes the clothes pins look uneven, but I swear they aren't. Anyway, this is so much better for me, because I fucking hate having to take jewelry that I wear a lot in and out of my jewelry box constantly. So, it used to always end up in little piles on my tables. So far, having everything organized like this and easy to get to us working. I hang my necklaces and bracelets on the hook and clip my rings into the little opening in the clothes pins; this way the clothes pin can't bend or crush the rings but they're still clipped in place.
