hello dear members, the admin team hopes you are all doing well.
regrettably, we are here with saddening news. you guys probably all saw it coming, but after some period of contemplation, the admins have decided that passengers krp will be closing. this is not due to one specific reason, but rather a combination of a massive dip in activity as well as the admins finding upkeep difficult due to real life commitments and current events.
thus, the admin team would like to apologize to our members as well as those who were planning to join, for the time we had with each other were cut short. to our new applications, we’re sorry this happened so quickly and it is very unfortunate that we were not able to get to know each other well before passengers krp closed. we hope you are understanding and that perhaps, we’ll be seeing you guys around in the krp community some other time!

Yoona Rhee and her mother lived a very simple life. Her parents had gotten divorced early on - she didn’t have any memories of them actually being together even. Her mom worked as a seamstress. It didn’t being a lot of money in, but she loved it and she worked hard too. Yoona’s father was a lawyer, owning his own law firm. He made a considerable amount more than her mother. As a child it didn’t make a lot of sense as to why he always threw such a fit to help her and mother with money though. He had more than enough to go around. Soon after her father remarried and started another family she realized that even though there was plenty to go around - he had other people he’d rather be sharing it with. The only time she had even dipped her toes in anything luxurious was on holidays. She’d spend a couple uncomfortable hours with her half brothers and sister, then be on her way with some new fancy clothes.
Yoona and her father’s family as a whole felt more and more disconnected as she got older. It was almost like slipping away from a crappy friend that never really ever cared about how your day was. It wasn’t a sad growing apart. It seemed almost expected.
By the time she was ready to graduate she hadn’t talked to her father in ages. Any time they did speak she’d listen to the generic excuses about how busy he was and he had practically no free time at all. Yoona knew that this was a way to try and defend their disconnect, but if she were totally truthful she didn’t care. She had happily settled with taking up a part-time job and helping her mom pay bills while she waited for the last few days of her final year in high school.
At least, that was the plan. Half way through the school year her mother fell very, very ill. She had always had a hard time keeping healthy and well, but she had never gotten _this _sick before. Doctors claimed to know what to do, but Yoona didn’t see any progress.
Yoona talked to her mother’s doctor and begged for other means of treatment because what she was seeing wasn’t working. The doctor didn’t care though- at least he didn’t seem to. Yoona’s mother’s condition got worse and worse until Yoona sat quietly in the hospital with her mother as she passed. This was also the day she was left with no choice but to move into her father’s home.
Yoona hadn’t handled grief well. She mostly shut down and just let things happen around her. She had a few friends in school were there for her, but she didn’t want the talk about how you feel kind of friends at the moment. She was more drawn to the friend that didn’t talk about it but showed support in other ways. He was a little reckless and got into trouble, but maybe that was the kind kind of therapy she needed? She got into some trouble; got caught drinking, smoking, sneaking a boy into her room, etc., but her dad just turned the other way. His logic being that she was grieving.

One day when walking home from school with terrible influence of a friend, Yoona had stopped dead in her tracks as she watched the doctor who she had tried to reason with for weeks exit and his house and step into his car and leave. It didn’t take much much prodding from her friend before Yoona found herself climbing in the back window. She looked around for a few moments and observed. He clearly lived alone and had no family. That must be why he couldn’t find any sympathy from her. All it took was accidentally dropping a glass. She listened to the loud static shatter by her feet, and it felt good. She tipped another, letting it also shatter before she looked at the ground around her to see nothing but millions of tiny reflective shards of glass. After that she didn’t remember much. All she knew was that there wasn’t much left that could be considered unbroken in that house after. Of course she ended up getting arrested. And honestly she couldn’t even say that she shouldn’t have been, or that it was unjust. Thankfully her friend was able to run fast enough to get out of there. Sure he was a bad influence, but that didn’t mean that he knew how crazy she’d be once in there.
Her father finally stepped in, deeming that her rebellious actions were out of hand. He couldn’t have her running around defacing the family name after all. Having some connections, he was able to come up with a compromise. She could either figure out a way to pay for all of the court fees, damages, her bail - or - she could take the opportunity to be a attendant on AVN 063. Of course, this meant giving up her friends, the few family members she still talked to, and the earth as a whole for possible forever.
Maybe that was the kind of fresh start she needed though?
Honestly with the options she was given, she was really left with no choice. There was no feasible way for her to come up with with all of that money. So AVN 063 it is.

Yoona isn’t so much of a loner, but she does value time to herself. She likes hearing people talk about themselves so long that they don’t enjoy it too much. She enjoys- no, revels in adventure and the feeling of adrenaline in her veins. Not that she’s inherently bitchy, but she does have a short temper. It’s best not to cross her. Yoona would most definitely plot revenge.

Hyemi’s adoptive family took her in around the age of 7. Anything before that isn’t exactly clear in her mind, most likely due to disassociation– something Hyemi has accepted for what she assumes is the better alternative. Yet, at the age of 15, the father left her mother and little sister behind, forever instilling feelings of doubt towards others. In actuality, Hyemi would like to believe in the good of people, which is why she does take conscious effort to do small things for others. She displays her care for others in small actions, having always been observant to others’ desires. But, to the same degree, she’s taken care to not let other know of what she does. Her personality can easily be described as likable or unlikable. Lukewarm feelings towards her are entirely misplaced. Often, the types of jokes she makes are followed by a pause and then laughter once people process what she’s said.
Hyemi came to the Avalon in an attempt to forget the Earth behind her. Once the one thing anchoring her to the planet was killed, she felt no need to stay any longer. With the money earned from her established years as a premier tattoo artist, she left wordlessly– only a short letter to explain to her mother and little sister that she was fine. Of course, this isn’t unexpected her for her. Hyemi has always been callous, blunt in how she speaks and always calm. Despite knowing the pain her mother and sister would feel, she felt no remorse considering her lack of true connection to them in the first place.
Very few things have been able to shake her, and it’s deprived her of learning how to cope with tragedy. Her only solution was to leave. Completely leave. What’s left for her here? Her mother said “come home”, but, with her gaze held towards the clouds, she only listened to the stars telling her the same thing.

as you all already know, in the past few days, the kpop community has been struck with the absolutely devastating news of having lost one of the brightest stars in this endless galaxy. kim jonghyun was an icon in the music industry, but importantly, he was also a great advocate for those who could not speak for themselves, and those whose voices were muted or refused to be heard.
you have all probably heard this speech a million times, and honestly, we find our hearts heavy and our words difficult to come by as we type this. there is nothing more we can say to comfort or to pay our respects that we haven’t already done personally, and god forbid we sound robotic in any way. the truth is, kim jonghyun has affected each and every one of our lives in one way or another, whether we’ve heard of him in passing, or whether we’ve followed him closely for the majority of his musical career.
personally, your admod team has all had different experiences with him and as a result, our hearts ache differently, and yet we all bleed the same. therefore, it is with empathy when we tell you that we understand if you require time to grief; so, with this, we’ll be cancelling this week’s scheduled activity check.
do request a further hiatus if you require one. and though it may come off as synthetic—given the amount of times this has been regurgitated in many different social platforms—truly, if you feel the need to speak to someone, understand that we, your admod team, are always ready with a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on ( and no, not just today, or tomorrow, or until the end of this week. we are here for you whenever you need us, with no expiration date ).
in this time of mourning, it is our greatest hope that we, as a community, will unite and heal together.
it makes sense for a south korean based roleplay to accommodate to fcs based on the south korean entertainment industry, considering /very/ evidently, in korea, the majority of its citizens are korean. don't listen to that anon. they're always out to ruin someone's day. y'all are doing great. loveliest admins ever ;u;

would there be an actual reason as to why only korean, thai, chinese, and the one black person (alex reid) would be allowed on the ship? or is it an /aesthetic/ choice?
as stated in the rules, this is a roleplay that accepts faceclaims that are/were active in the korean entertainment industry. as our roleplay is set in south korea, we made the quick decision to adopt the korean entertainment industry as our reservoir of faceclaims. it wouldn’t make sense for us to center a roleplay around a korean avalon branch located in south korea, and choose the western entertainment industry as our faceclaim reservoir ( note: there is surely a western avalon branch too, but as stated, that is not our chosen premise of the roleplay ). the fact of the matter is this: like most krps, we wanted to distinguish ourselves from a western rp, and a sure-fire way to do this would be to accept faceclaims active in the korean entertainment industry.
furthermore, most, if not all, of the admins have deeper knowledge of the players within the korean entertainment industry compared to western, as that is what we, as individuals with our own interests, keep up with. therefore, certain knowledge regarding the celebrities within the korean entertainment industry are more easily accessible to us than those in the western industry.
additionally, the admod team was very rushed in the last week of creating the roleplay ( which, really, was when the bulk of the pages were written and organised ), and because there was so much to do and we were so excited to open, the subject of faceclaims were the least of our concern. we simply took note of all the other krps out there and followed suit, with our premise and setting in mind.
we’d like to stress that this is not a race issue, as you are implying. we simply chose to focus on the korean entertainment industry as opposed to the western because it makes sense with the setting of this roleplay and because it is more easily accessible to us. ultimately, as our determined scope is designated as the korean entertainment industry, if you have a problem with the racial imbalance, i suggest you take it up with the industry itself as we are powerless to change much. we emphasize that should the industry decide to encourage diversity, we will also rejoice with you!
i’d also like to detach myself from the other admins so that only i am liable when i say honestly, admins put in a lot of hard work and we’ve opened up a platform for people to enjoy, free of charge. admin work is almost always a chore, but we do it because we want to create a safe, friendly environment for talented writers to meet and write. for you to speak to us rudely and in an accusatory tone in return is, frankly, ungrateful. yes, the topic you have brought up is legitimate, but i speak for all admins when i say there is a way to go about asking a question in a polite and open manner. and yes, i’m admin altair: you can quote me on this.
