The late pastor of St. Patrick's Church in New Orleans, Msgr. Reynolds, in his annual Mardi Gras homily always closed by exhorting us to make a good lent. Every year he'd remind us, "You know those sirens you hear at the beginning of the parade letting you know the parade is coming? Those sirens are also telling you that Lent is coming! They're saying to you, "Get ready! Fast! Pray! Be charitable! Prepare yourself!" I remember the Monsignor and that homily fondly every time a parade begins. Have a good Lent everybody! Fast, pray and be charitable, and may God bless you.
