Hello! If you are reading this, it’s either because you are contemplating, accepting, or seeing the results of our acceptance to live in a Common Cause suite this year! We want to participate in Common Cause because we pride ourselves on being a strong, diverse group of friends that manage to do a crazy amount of crazy different things. We’re athletes, performers, counselors, sisters, writers, and, well, friends! Obviously it’s hard to handle, and we want to take this year to explore the balance of living a healthy lifestyle and maintaining emotional health all while getting ready to exit campus and enter the real world. Are you excited? Cause we are. Are you ready? Cause we are. Please feel free to comment, ask us anything, or submit posts. We aren’t trying to brag about how well we balance life—any of the four of us could tell you a hundred stories about times we lost our balance—but we are trying to explore and learn. From ourselves, and from you! Thanks for reading and we hope to hear from you soon!* *You has two meanings here. ”You” as in the people we hope will accept us for Common Cause, AND “You” as in the students who will read if we are accepted!
I found a delicious bagel place yesterday! A friend and I shared two different orders. The top one is pesto chicken, and the bottom one is a mushroom burger. They both come with pine nuts, lettuce, cucumber, and cheese. It was both healthy and filling! And apparently everything is organic, which is always a plus :)
Also delicious: they have freshly squeezed orange juice! Yay!
I like comedy. I work hard on being comedic. One of the easiest ways to get a laugh is to fall on stage. But if you're going to do it right you have to stay fit and be prepared to practice.
One of the easiest but most elegant looking falls in slapstick comedy is called the "Swedish Fall." I practice this one all the time because it builds upper body strength and looks pretty neat.
Come to our event on [DATE] and I'd be happy to teach you the technique! It's a great trick to pull out at parties!
Yogurt, people! It's all about the yogurt! Add in some berries and granola, and you have yourself something amazing.
It's super tempting to skip breakfast, and too many college students tend to do so. I used to skip breakfast too (10 extra minutes of sleep!), but ever since I made it into a regular habit over the summer, I feel much more energized and ready to face the day. It also gives your metabolism a jumpstart!
I like to consider myself a pretty athletic person. I try to work out in my room regularly and eat a pretty balanced diet.
But I do find that I can get lazy. Some days it's just difficult to get off Netflix! This semester I plan on working hard to break some of these laziness habits!
I hope to share some of the dorm-room workout techniques I've honed during my time at Brandeis.
Personal Goals: Cut back on procrastination, eat fewer carbs.
My name is Sarah Yun. I'm a senior at Brandeis University.
Of the four of us, I would say I'm the most spiritual. I go to church every Sunday and find a lot of my emotional health comes from religion and my church community.
I know I can work more on my physical health more, and I hope to use this year as motivation. I really love cooking for myself. I want to learn and share healthy recipes!
Personal goals: Push ups every day, healthy cooking.
My name is Theresa. I'm so ready to start this year of balanced living!
The biggest motivator in my quest for a more balanced lifestyle is my involvement on the swim team. I've swam practically my whole life (distance, if you care).
After this year I won't be swimming nearly as much. In the swim world we call these people "swammers." It's important to me to stay healthy though even after I stop swimming.
I hope to use these projects to help myself and others form healthy habits.
My name is Jason. I'm a senior at Brandeis and I'm excited about a year of consciously living balanced.
I sometimes stray. I'll admit it. I'm a stray-er.
There are days I prefer to stay in bed all day. There are days I just want to eat ice cream.
I hope to one day work in the entertainment business, and I know there's no room for laziness there. I hope to use this year to push myself to be more balanced.
Who *are* these people, you may be thinking. Well, we want to tell you. The four of us met in our first year at Brandeis in a lovely place called Cable Hall 316. It was a natural triple, and though only a few of us lived there, we all came together there to hang out.
We created so many memories in that room, figuring out how college was supposed to go. "Peace, love, soultrain" started as a silly way that we said goodbye to each other when somebody was leaving the room, but it has become one of the truest ways for us to show affection to one another. Our Brandeis careers would not be the same without each other.
We have lived together every year since the Cable days, and nomatter how busy we are, we always have each others' backs.
Over the next few days, we are going to post some introductions about ourselves individually—who we are, what we do, and why the heck we are making this blog. Keep a lookout! Each of us will have a page that tracks our individual posts, labelled with our name, for easy access to follow any certain person.
So, who will be the first suitemate introduced? You'll just have to wait and see... check back at Common Blog in a few days!
(Yes, we recognize that anyone reading this will be reading it much later in time, and all of the posts will already be up. Just humor us, okay?)
