Today i got my first tattoo done on my wrist. It says ‘Kia Kaha’, meaning ‘Be Strong’, in Maori, my original tounge (New Zealand). This tattoo has alot of meaning for me. For the past few years i’ve been struggling with depression. Having numourus amounts of scars all over my wrists and thighs. I’m not going to go in to that, but the whole time i was batteling depression, my whole family, including myself always told me to be strong. “Kia kaha Tahlia, you got this”. Even when i was a child, when i scraped my knee or stubbed my toe on a coffee table, my mum would repeat “Kia kaha bubba, kia kaha”. After three trying years batteling depression and 16 looong years of sadness, i’ve finally come to a place where i’m genuinely happy. Sure it’s hard now and then but i’ve learnt ways better than cutting, to cope. This saying has been my saviour throughout my entire life and it will remain to be my saviour in days to come. Hense why i decided to get it permanently embeded on my body. so yeah, that’s that :)
