father, hallowed be thy name
i. small, amber bottle lying, veiled: peaking through cotton sheathes. it is pleading; and so, i take it.
i saw how Mom would always throw you out and away. yet how delicate you feel, with such care misplaced.
i ask you why on Earth that you would will this be done.
one step forward, one step back, you muse:
think of it as if it were art: why can i not express how i want it to be felt?
so what do you do when your art is a defect? when you can’t impress what you wish to express? you destroy it.
ii. hospital bed, fluid dripping into a drained, eighty pound shell. she wakes to a touch; a father leaves softly one kiss upon her crown.
her dream is still; one image that is faint: a girl, and father, sitting on one, little bed pantomiming with their hands, playing pretend as if their hands were people.
he stretches out one arm; and she points her forefinger and pinky out; an imitation of little legs. she walks the little legs up his arm.
and she wills it so that the little person, with its little legs, makes an error: it trips, and it falls down. they laugh.
and we are watching this as if we were floating afar, and drifting away.
and the image grows dim; and evermore, it is fading; as it is in Heaven.
