Well, it's been a really fun year, guys. It really has. I enjoyed my time here, but it's time for me to take my leave. Perhaps I'll see you all around somewhere, or maybe I'll join up again if I have the time and if you don't find yourselves another Peter.

Peter put down the fork he didn’t realize he was death gripping. He took a deep breath and looked Cyprien straight in the face. “Do you like James?” he asked up front, able to feel his ears burning. His hands were shaking slightly, so he grabbed onto his fork once more to hide that fact. “Because I should warn you that he’s still hung up on Lily.” He should not be divulging this information to anyone, but if Cyprien did have feelings for James, he certainly deserved to know that they wouldn’t get reciprocated.Â
“What? Oh… We’re friends…” Cyprien offered neutrally, unsure on where this was coming from. He was still further confused by the clearly-obvious statement to follow. “Er… No, Lily, Lily and I are friends, I wouldn’t…” He had no idea what was going on between James and Lily, but he certainly wouldn’t get in their way by any means. Cyprien turned a bit, giving Peter an odd look. Did Peter like James..? Was that what this was about? Those rumors had been lurking for years, God knew. “Ah, why do you ask?”
"I saw you two," he explained further, poking his spoon in and out of his oatmeal, taking a deep sigh. "I came back last night and I saw you. Everything." He couldn't finish his sentence after that, and took a long drink of water to stop the sniffling that had started to take him over. No, he would not cry. He could not cry, there was no point to it. He kept his glass to his mouth and straightened his back.
"Cyprien, I love you," he blurted out the moment he put his cup down, ears turning bright red. He hadn't meant to say it, but it had been on his mind since the previous night. And it needed to get out there. "But...but I've got to go," he scrambled up and turned on his heels, making a beeline to the Great Hall door.

Peter bit back a sigh, knowing who had taken the seat next to him before he had even heard his voice. How could Cyprien do that? But, thinking back, he couldn’t know how Peter was feeling, or what it felt like to see him kissing his best mate. It was tough, so he took a shaky breath and kept his eyes on his breakfast that he’d barely picked at.
“Hi…” he breathed, looking at Cyprien with such hurt in his eyes. He quickly averted his gaze, not wanting to show this one weakness of his, not wanting to seem like a baby or, well, just weak at all. “I came back last night. But…but you were dancing with someone else. So I left.”
“Oh. That’s a shame, I would have liked another dance,” Cyprien replied with a smile, reaching to serve himself oatmeal. Yesss. He took some of it, added a fair share of fruit, and regained his seat, again smiling at Peter. “Did you have a good time while you were there, though? You left pretty abruptly.”

Peter had seen it happen. And he couldn’t get the image out of his head. He had almost cried himself to sleep the night before, barely able to stop himself. He found his eyes puffy and red even as he woke up in the morning, sure that some tears had escaped him as he slept. He shook his head, flattened his hair, and stepped out of the dorm, ignoring the sinking in his chest as he saw James’ bed empty.
As if on cue, James stepped through the portrait hole at that minute. Peter glared at him, then averted his eyes. How could he do that to him? They were supposed to be friends. Best friends, But so much for that. Peter shook his head again and stepped through the portrait hole, trying to focus on what exactly he was going to have for breakfast. Cheese and toast, yes, that would have to do. He was not surprised to find the Great Hall mostly empty, most of the inhabitants of the castle were still drained from the previous night’s activities. With a deep sigh, Peter sat down at the Gryffindor table only to find that there was no cheese this morning. He huffed a sigh and grabbed for a piece of toast regardless.
Cyprien made his way from Gryffindor Tower slowly, his thoughts elsewhere. He’d walked James up from the dungeons without much thought, and he continued not to think much of the significance of their evening together. Nothing had happened, after all, so what was there to worry about? Cyprien slipped off from the Tower pretty quickly, absolutely starving. Perhaps there would be oatmeal out..? The kind with fruit in it? Cyprien smiled just thinking of it.
