Cefn Castell in Criccieth North Wales
Cefn Castell by stephenson STUDIO is a new build contemporary family home on an isolated cliff top location overlooking Cardigan bay in Criccieth North Wales. It is a replacement for a dilapidated 400 year old former cottage that stood on the site. The new house is designed using solid, void and frame as new elements in glass and render, with the backdrop of a monumental natural stone wall constructed from the remains of the existing cottage which envelopes the new house. The plan maximises panoramic views from each room, and also links a series of inner spaces internal to external via the use of expansive sliding glazed screens.

Nightscapes by Photographer Sandro Casutt
Photographer Sandro Casutt together with his brother Markus started Cosmic Art Photography two years ago as an outlet for their love of the universe. Sandro took the amazing snaps in different seasons throughout the year, from his home valley of Vals, Switzerland. This tiny village with less than 1,000 inhabitants also happens to be one of the best locations on Earth for viewing the closest major galaxy to the Milky Way.
For astronomy lovers looking to venture to Vals, the brothers offer workshops throughout the year.

Celebrating William Christenberry
William Christenberry, who depicted rural Alabama through photographs, paintings and sculpture, died on Monday, November 28, in Washington, DC. He was 80. Known for photographs that measured the passage of time and evoked a sense of place in a region with a rich history darkened by racial and social injustice, Christenberry was one of the pioneers of color fine-art photography in the 1970s, working first with a Kodak Brownie snapshot camera before he incorporated 8×10 and 35mm cameras into his practice. Christenberry produced his work largely through annual trips to Hale County, Alabama which he thought of as home. His photographs show time’s effect on the landscape and humble rural architecture.
“I don’t want my work thought about in terms of nostalgia,” Christenberry said in an interview in 2005. “It is about place and sense of place. I only make pictures when I go home. I am not looking back longing for the past, but at the beauty of time and the passage of time.” Christenberry’s work also acknowledged the terrible racial history of the deep South through his piece “The Klan Room,” a tableaux of images of Ku Klux Klan events he surreptitiously photographed in the 1960s, paintings of Klansmen and sculptures.

Aatrial House in Poland
The beautiful site in Lower Silesia where Aatrial House design by KWK PROMES has one drawback: south-west access. To avoid the obvious functional collision of the driveway and the garden, the driveway was ‘pushed’ into the ground. This prompted the idea of a driveway leading inside to the ground floor level, from underneath the building. This became possible thanks to the creation of an inner atrium with the driveway in it.
As a result, the building opens up onto all sides with its terraces in an unrestricted manner, and the only way to get into the garden is through the atrium and the house. As a result, the building opens up onto all sides with its terraces in an unrestricted manner, and the only way to get into the garden is through the atrium and the house. This in turn has made it possible to obtain a new spatial model of the house – a reverse of an atrial building. Its structure results from various transformations of a cube.
