[Miserable? There’s a pill for that]
Whether playing a streetwalker or a terrorist, Anna Karina always managed to look a bit like a schoolgirl, with her dark hair, wispy bangs, heavy eyeliner and lycée-chic wardrobe of sailor-uniform tops, knee socks, lots of plaid, and perky headwear, from berets to boaters. - The New York Times
Jackie primps in the mirror, correcting her eyeliner. She'd bought a new dress for the occasion (there was a sale she just COULDN'T resist) and wanted to make sure the rest of her look was up to the task. Kitten heels, good for dress-casual wear, and a faux fur stole accentuated the outfit perfectly. She'd seen this exact ensemble in a magazine only a week before.
She thought over her knowledge of the coworker, and found nothing that worried her. After all, that's what HR was for! She'd even combed his reporting record and found no complaints. Perfect.
Isaac entered the payroll department, and after many questions, found his way to Jackie’s office. He had never been to the department, and at times, he even forgot it existed. There was never a scandal or major problem to be had there. He knocked on Jackie’s door, peeking in. “I apologize for the tardiness. I got...tied up in the zones. Time flies. What do you need from me exactly?”
Jackie looks up from her screen, figures and names reflecting blurrily off of her glasses. So this was him, the top guy! She'd be giddy with excitement had she not balanced her medication in anticipation.
"Oh, all I need from you is a sign-off and a choice for how your reward will be delivered." She fishes a delicately golden colored paper out of a stack, scanning to confirm it was his.
"Looks like there's your standard cash bonus- a healthy 5,000! That would be a simple check, for cash or deposit. There's also an entertainment allowance, to be expended over the next month, of green level or lower. Finally a luxury food allowance, unlimited for the next month."
Isaac sat down at her desk and began to read over the paperwork. If he learned anything from his childhood, it was reading paperwork thoroughly. His tired hazel eyes ran across the pages until he got to the bottom. He thought, ‘Maybe once more?’ Isaac ran through the paperwork again. It seemed satisfactory enough.
“Mm, I’d like for it to be deposited. I’m not a fan of carrying cash on me, and with my job, it can be difficult running to the bank,” Isaac smiled softly. The entertainment allowance seemed promising. He hadn’t had one of those in awhile. What did those entail again...were there any new features? Isaac looked up at her, “Can you fill me in on the green level allowances? I want to make sure I’m up to date on regulations.”
"Oh, of course! I'll hold off on that deposit then, if you're interested in the entertainment allowance instead." She turns back to her monitor and navigates to the desired page.
"It looks like you're allowed any kind of companion Droid up to green level, or your choice of live entertainment. If live entertainment is your choice then you would be given green equivalent seats. In this case, top employee tier. Second only to executive seats, and they come with certain backstage privileges as well!" She watches him closely, keeping a firm hold of her emotions but lighting up internally. A front line hero, discussing bonuses with her! He was a consistent producer, with a certain aura of danger. This was just like that episode of Serial Drama!
"If you need more detail on what kinds of entertainment are available I would recommend you speak to an expert on the matter as I rarely take part in anything beyond my recommended watching and required listening."
“Neither of those really sound interesting to me,” Isaac sat back into the chair. His face returning to the blank canvas most people were so used to. Somehow the allowances didn’t seem as pleasurable as when he first rose through the ranks. He shook his head with a sigh. Disappointing. It was wine or whiskey with a good book for him.
While the money did seem appealing, the food also did as well. He had a certain person in mind he wanted to thank for all their hard effort and help. Isaac sat back up, “I think this time around I will go for the luxury food allowance. I’ve never gone for it before, so I suppose I will give it a try. What do I need to do for it?”
"Well, that sort of depends on how you handle food to start. Do you cook at home and choose your own groceries, subscribe to our grocery delivery service, or have your meals prepared and delivered ahead of time?"
“Hm,” Isaac shrugged with a frown, “it really depends on my workload. Sometimes I cook on my own. Sometimes I have to order in. It all just really depends. I suppose with that question, that means I can only choose one service for the food allowance?”
She frowns thoughtfully and taps a pen on the papers in front of her, an old habit she'd never found cause to get rid of.
"I suppose the best option would be the most flexible one, then. I might have a general expenses card whipped up, and manage it personally. I'll have to run this by a supervisor, as we don't do it often, but with the level of dedication to the company you have shown there's reason to believe you will not abuse that level of trust."

Hello there, I'm Rebecca Levithan. I've recently been certified as re-education doctor, so if you feel you or someone you know needs re-education, you can contact me on this frequency. Have a Better Day.
Thank you very much, I'll keep that in mind! I can't think of anyone off the top of my head, but then I tend to spend more time on my own than with coworkers
I can relate to that to be honest.
Hm, I would think a person of your profession would work with doctors and front line workers
Yes, but what with the constant threat of rebels, they never stay long enough for a decent conversation.
Yes, I've heard that the threat has been really high lately since we tried to help some of their leaders.

Mr. Seelenfreund, there were some discrepancies with your incentives this month, are you willing to come down to billing? -Jackie K
Discrepancies?
Yup! It looks like you're owed a "fast start" bonus for the month, and I'm not finding that on your last check. Congrats on having such a productive month, Mr. Seelenfreund!
How very nice of the company. I'm currently in the zones working. When do you close?
Our hours are 8:30 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening, can you make it in today?
I’ll come in around 5:30. Thank you.
No problem!
