Shadow Milk Cookie and Alice in Wonderland Parallels
After reading the book I went crazy so here's my little analysis of what parallels Shadow Milk Cookie has with the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland book.
Shadow Milk
To me, he's absolutely Cheshire Cat coded.
His crazy big grin was the first thing, but there's more to it.
In his decor set, "Domain of Deceit", there is an item referencing Chapter 8: The Queen’s Croquet-Ground specifically.
Rose Bush Entangled with Lies
The english description says:
... Perhaps the day someone painted these roses red, they lost their very roots.
This is a very obvious reference to the event, where the card gardeners were painting white roses to red ones because they've messed up the seeds. Solely, this reference holds nothing but an easter egg purpose.
Although I think it liners to the fact, that in this chapter the Cheshire Cat plays a major role.
The story goes as the Queen of Hearts organized a game of croquet and unexpectingly, the Cheshire Cat appears out of thin air. The Queen as per usual wanted to off the cat's head, alas nobody knew how, since he had nothing except for head.
With that idea in mind, it reminded me of one of Shadow Milk's animations where his head getting detached. Perhaps it's a reference to him being doing with his body whatever he wants. Still, I understand it may be illogical connection, so if any of have your own opinion I'd gladly read them!
The next interesting similarity I've noticed is how they're appearing.
The first thing that appears and goes of Cheshire Cat is his big smile. Similarly to that, in several videos the first thing that would appear (or even the ONLY thing that we'd see) is Shadow Milk's eyes.
Honorable mention to the enemies that are probably references to the both Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass.
The White Rabbit was Queen of Hearts' servant, so perhaps the insane amount of rabbits in Shadow Milk's items could be a metaphor to a loyalty (a causeless one maybe?).
But here comes the mirror and chess figures enemies, both of them are excluded in the first book, but play a major role in the second one!
Shadow Milk also has a whole theme of chess, and it could be a reference to the Through the Looking Glass book, but I haven't finished it, so I can't be so sure (and the moment where Gingerbrave, Wizard and Strawberry cookies became chess figures reminds me of the premise to this book, where Alice had to play a game of chess as a figurine herself too).
Sage of Truth
Honestly except his tea drinking animation and that he's the only(?) costume with a hat, I don't have anything else to prove that he's the Mad Hatter. I just feel it okay.
There's actually one phrase that I like to interpret as a (Mad) Hatter reference, although in Korean this phrase has completely different meaning.
This one reminds me of the whole Hatter's “Why is a raven like a writing-desk?” riddle.
As Luis Carroll stated himself that the riddle was intended to have no answer, thus making it into one.
Ad Lib Ending
He's so, SO Queen of Hearts. Just look at him, this reddish color and hearts??? Your Honor, they did it on purpose.
Also, his look and color pallet reminds me of the real King of Hearts card. Not sure if THIS was intentional, just I thought I need to share with you with this idea.
Story-wise he has zero similarities to the Queen of Heart, which is completely different talking about his idle animation. BOTH of them are Alice references!
In the first animation the rabbit is SO White Rabbit.
A white rabbit with a clock? AND in a red suit? That's literally white rabbit as a Queen of Hearts servant!
Not to mention the rabbit in the book is described with pink eyes and with this pinkly-reddish color it looks a bit like one.
Yet another Chapter 8 reference, but this time from the Queen of Hearts prospective since SHE was the one extremely mad about the wrong color. This context perfectly explains why Ad Lib Ending, that comparing to the other versions of Shadow Milk is pretty calm, all of a sudden gets furious over roses.
i don't play ovenbreak that much, but i really i need to learn tbd/timekeeper lore for the may update and- i dont get anything
how many tbd's are there?? how can timekeeper and croissant cookie's costume be both the director?? what are doomed timelines? if timekeeper is the only timekeeper, then what about her costume? HOW did timekeeper become... timekeeper?
i just, i dont get ovenbreak and yet i need to know all the lore
ok so, if you're familiar with the multiverse, you're already a step ahead, lol. if you're not, this isn't gonna make a lot of sense.
for the upcoming CRK update, we're getting Timekeeper Cookie and Croissant Cookie front and center. for those who don't know, Timekeeper and Croissant are the same person!---Croissant is an "alternate dimension" version of Timekeeper's past self. Timekeeper herself is actually from an unknown alternative timeline; by her own admission, she is not actually native to the CROB timeline, but is instead an alternative version of Croissant who has figured out how to manipulate/operate time for herself on her own whim (we don't know how this happened). Croissant's "Director of the TBD" costume (which shows her in the process of transitioning into Timekeeper) is actually story relevant; it appears in "Mission! Save the Future!" as a divergent, doomed future of the TBD that another character, String Gummy, ends up saving the CROB timeline from. the Croissant of that doomed future fades away/dies on screen because, since String Gummy fixed the past, the doomed future no longer exists so neither does she.
the Time Balance Department, or TBD (also called "Time Management Department" sometimes) is a top secret organization that is dedicated to maintaining the stability of several "core timelines" across the multiverse. CROB is a single core timeline. CRK is a different core timeline. it could be assumed that each game is its own "core timeline", and each of these timelines has their own TBD. (source: Timekeeper claiming that across every timeline, herself and Croissant were the only ones of all their variant selves who made the decision to join the TBD in their respective timelines.) so, inferred from that, yes, every single core timeline has its own TBD, but only CROB has Croissant in the TBD and Timekeeper as its TBD director, making Croissant and Timekeeper unique to CROB's timeline/continuity. so it's very interesting that we're getting them both in CRK next!! i'm about 95% certain that the Croissant and Timekeeper we're getting are explicitly from CROB's timeline.
as for the CROB TBD, this is the cast of the TBD as we know it:
A) Marble Bread, B) Croissant, C) String Gummy, D) Pain de Campagne, E) Dark Fondue, F) Timekeeper, G) Maple Taffy, H) Schneeball, I) Coffee Candy, and J) Baguette. of these, all but Maple Taffy are playable in CROB. as well, all but Coffee Candy and Schneeball are specific department leaders/managers.
^ this graphic is from THIS VERY INFORMATIVE CHARACTER VIDEO which i did not know existed until i was trying to type up this post. it is 3 minutes long and very concise, so if you're just looking for the gist on the characters, watch it. the only one missing from this graphic/video is Pain de Campagne (he only just recently came out), but he would be under time management unit: disaster response. (no clue who "Twisted Roll Cookie" is. that cookie hasn't been mentioned or shown anywhere but this video as of posting this.)
if you want to watch/read through the actual characters/stories of the cast of the TBD, the stories you want are "Operation Timeguard", "Mission! Save the Future!", "Operation: Time Fixers!", "Time Relic Chaos!", and "Operation: Now Hiring!" in that order. youtube videos everyone say thank you royal mike: (timeguard 1, timeguard 2, timeguard 3), (mission 1, mission 2), (fixers 1, fixers 2), (chaos 1, chaos 2), (hiring 1, hiring 2). cumulatively, all of these videos counted up together is about 4 hours worth of cutscenes/story.
HOWEVER IF YOU JUST WANT THE BASIC GIST of what the TBD does exactly: you're gonna wanna watch this video below. its the 3 minute trailer for the last TBD update in CROB and its both very informative as to what the TBD does and relevant to what's happening in CRK right now
now pause. back up a bit. brace yourselves. (video discussion, crk spoilers and discussion below:)
"When a catastrophic event occurs within a core timeline,"
"shards of that timeline may break off and drift in temporal space."
"they constantly leak energy until the timeline collapses."
^ this is what Shadow Milk has done to the CRK core timeline. this is why the TBD is stepping in, because if they don't, CRK as a core timeline will collapse entirely (<- this is where Pain de Campagne and the Emergency Neutralization Division come in). and if Shadow Milk's aim is to destroy every timeline but the single one he deems worthy enough for him, then the TBD also has a time criminal on their hands (<- that's String Gummy's department, the Time Investigation Division).
WOULD U LOOK AT THAT. HE'S EATING ALL THE CORE TIMELINES UP!! what the hell man! not cool!
and also, lo and behold!!!:
Pain de Campagne and String Gummy (alongside Croissant and Timekeeper) both show up in the concept art of the next update's title screen. considering what divisions they lead in the TBD ("fixing the damn timeline that just blew up" and "the time police that chase down time criminals") i can imagine that they're there for very relevant reasons.
