The Dream Camera
In the past, we dreamed of a digital camera that could shoot 24fps progressive and hopefully have some kind of cinematic look.
We got the Panasonic AG-DVX100
Then we dreamed of higher resolution, better color-depth, and tapeless production.
We got the Panasonic AG-HVX200
Young filmmakers dreamed they could have an affordable option --even if that meant sacrifices.
We got the Canon HV20
There were some others like the Canon XL H1, Sony HVR-Z5, and the JVC GY-HD100.
But we dreamed of interchangeable lenses.
We got bulky adapters from Letus and Redrock Micro
We wanted a perfect camera:
24p
Variable frame rate
Cinema-style gamma
Tapeless workflow
Great color depth (potentially RAW)
Interchangeable lenses
Even more resolution
We got the Red One
And it was what we all dreamed of. It was a reality... Except the cost.
So we settled with hacked DSLRs to do video. We accepted the compromises for the budget and used the crap out Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2.
With the exception of variable frame rate and greater than 1080p resolution, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is what we've wanted all this time. And only $995.
