Title: Cultured Magnificence

Medium: Watercolor on cold pressed board

This painting is very different from my usual style. Essentially, I almost made myself sick from constantly using inks and graphite to produce ultra fine lines and details with watercolor accents. I knew that I needed a break so I grabbed my watercolors and created this. I had been experimenting with a similar technique in my sketch books but, this is the first time I made a large scale piece with that technique. I am already working on newer pieces in this style.

Normally I have a lot of sea critters in my work, but lately insects and arthropods have been working their way into my drawings. Its strange because I scream bloody murder at the sight of them.

This is Thandi Sibisi.  She is the 25-year-old daughter of South African cattle farmers.  At some point she realized that in an African nation, paradoxically African art and artists were grossly under-represented by South African art market.  So, she just opened her own art gallery, and in the process, became the first black woman to own an art gallery in South Africa.

Recently I was chosen by RAW Artists to be in one of their art shows for this season. This was partially why I haven't been updating my blog consistently. I was so busy with preparing for this I had neglected my blog. But now, I am back with new works and bios about artists to post. The images above were taken at the event. Working with RAW was an amazing experience and as stressful as some parts may have been, I'm glad that I did it. Below is my RAW profile you should check it out.
