A friend posted about the work of Bianca Chang on Facebook (where else) and I was captivated. I think the most beautiful sculptures are all white....forcing us to focus solely on the texture, forms, and lines. What an INCREDIBLE example! If you can't tell from the image above - these are hand-cut paper sculptures. Click on the link to see more. Wow.

This project sought to reuse recycled soda bottles as a canopy under which a small park is created. An intriguing environment is created where one can explore the surface qualities of the bottles at eye level. Additionally, this project sought to stimulate creative alternatives for recycling and reusing materials. This project used over 1500 recycled plastic soda bottles.
I just returned from an amazing bus tour organized by the APLD Phoenix district....and I am still dreaming of all the stunning sights. I thought I would share some of the images that I found inspiring. Our first stop was in Palm Springs for a tour of the newly opened Sunnylands gardens. We visited the modern gardens on this trip. I will definitely be back for the tour of the original home and grounds.
We then carried on to Pasadena and hit the Huntington Gardens for two days. The real treat was the three hours that the Director of the Gardens spent with us...discussing all the thought behind preservation decisions and the history of the gardens. We also were able to enter the garden before the general public both days...and were able to truly take in the beauty and serenity of the space. This will be a trip I will never forget! Thank you APLD for bringing these experiences into my life! We are already planning the bus tour for next year!

“Comparison is the thief joy” - now that is something I can get behind.
Brilliant!
I have been bitten by the chevron bug...and I am not the only one. Fashion, graphics, interiors...chevron patterns (or zig zags) are everywhere! The image on the top left is a fire feature in a recent project of mine (the seams aren't even grouted in this photo) where I was able to use the classic Mexican pattern and modernize it. I am fortunate to live in an area where I can easily use this pattern in a design and it will feel right at home. But I can see where this timeless graphic pattern could be used in countless ways outside....perhaps you can too!

Stunning
The only important thing about design is how it relates to people.
