Purely Gratuitous Joyce

This dance was originally Joyce celebrating overcoming her agoraphobia, so I feel a little stink sneaking a slightly less positive message into here, but I think Joyce herself would be very happy with it!

The real beginning...

There were plenty of strips leading up to this that show Joyce's growing regard for Dorothy and the conflict it created with her upbringing, but this is the moment when she made the decision that her nascent love for Dorothy meant more than the meanness she had inherited. And this is the first time Dorothy got to see that 'beautiful, stupid anger ...for kindness' she so loves.

Interestingly, it was followed very shortly thereafter by this strip...

Not the first time that Walky's suggested that Joyce is attracted to Dorothy (https://www.dumbingofage.com/2012/comic/book-3/01-if-the-shoes-split/nemesis/) but repeating that beat here, and having Dorothy react to it (without actually refuting it) quietly reinforces it.
