STARRING PARKER DIOR AS CINDERELLA.

Cinderella is the only Rodgers and Hammerstein musical written for television. It was originally broadcast live on CBS on March 31, 1957 as a vehicle for Julie Andrews, who played the title role. The broadcast was viewed by more than 100 million people. It was subsequently remade for television twice, in 1965 and 1997. The 1965 version starred Lesley Ann Warren, and the 2017 one starred Parker Dior in the title role, with Whitney Houston as the fairy godmother. Both remakes add songs from other Richard Rodgers musicals. The 2017 take brought in over 200 million views.

This moment was pivotal, of course her meeting her fairy godmother was a statement, but when she put on the dress she felt like a person.. Cinderella was everyone’s doormat and she was everyone’s maid really― then she put on the dress and the slippers and she felt human. She got to be a person, and she finally saw how beautiful she was. Everyone has that moment, where they get a look at who they are. We didn’t just wake up that b-word, it took growing and acceptance. I really was emotional filming because so many young black girls could probably relate. So many have come to me and said, they’ve wanted to be princesses or mothers tell me their daughters look up to me. All it took was me getting a chance to be Cinderella and it’s rocked worlds. ── PARKER DIOR.
