Don’t Be Afraid, Get Political
Well it’s been a week since the Election and we are still here. I remember the disbelief I felt last week when Trump was declared the winner of the Election, and even though we now know Hillary won the Popular Vote, we still have to prepare ourselves for the next four years under a Ruthless Trump Regime. Over the past week I’ve heard many people say how scared they are about our future. I must admit, I too was scared, sad, and angry at the outcome of this Presidential Election. However then I remembered that all I have to do to make a difference is to go to work each day. You see, I raise money for Progressive Organizations like The Southern Poverty Law Center, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and The Human Rights Campaign. All of these organizations need our help right now. These are organizations that will stand up to a Trump Administration if they try one tenth of the hateful rhetoric he campaigned on. I’m one of the people who absolutely loves his job, because each day I go home knowing I made a difference. We need people like you, yes YOU reading this Post to join the fight. If you love your country, then PLEASE get involved. Now is the time for heroes, and they begin with you. Each of us have a unique opportunity to make positive change in our country. All it takes is getting Political and telling the country that hate is NOT Acceptable on our watch. There are many ways for you to help out. You can become a member of The ACLU for only $20 a year. $35 helps you buy a membership in both The Southern Poverty Law Center and Human Rights Campaign. If you live in Austin, Denver, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, or Boston you can get a job at Telefund which helps raise money for all of these amazing Organizations. You can also take part in one of the peaceful protests going on all around the country. All you have to do is check your college campuses to see what they are doing to combat the hate. If they aren’t doing anything YOU can step up and start a college group that brings everybody together. I realize we live in a divided country, but we can still treat people the way we want to be treated. Ultimately the hate STOPS with us. Now this isn’t going to be a Tumblr that tries to bring everybody together, as far as I’m concerned the battle lines have clearly been drawn, and I’m obviously on the Progressive side. However I do believe we can return to a time when we had civil discourse in this country. My biggest point of this post is please don’t say you DON’T get involved in politics, because women’s rights is politics. LGBT Rights is Politics, basic human rights are Politics. So if you say you don’t do politics you are basically saying these people don’t matter to you. Whether you like it or not we are in this together. So please don’t be afraid, get mad as hell, and get political, because we need you on our side.
