I wouldn't say I've returned to FNAF, but I love the movie, I'm excited for the sequel, so I recently went down memory lane to discover that a team has taken up the torch on completing this game! I feel very honored and wish them the best. Hopefully this reuploaded zip can help them or anyone else. Enjoy!

What would have been 05: closure
Unlocking the Box
Inside the box would have been Henryās best inventions for child safety and entertainment, which he locked away to prevent Afton from further twisting his designs into monstrosities. As for how it unlocked, the idea (silly to me now) was that rather than keys, it took two springlocks, one from Fredbear and the other from Spring Bonnie. Their extreme snapping capabilities could push in the lock, unlocking it.
Henryās tapes.
Henryās tapes would have revealed more backstory of the conflict between him and Afton. With Aftonās diary entries, we learn that Henry tried to kill Afton by triggering the springlocks Afton was wearing. But days later, Afton reveals heās still alive, and blackmails Henry into creating killer animatronics or else he would kill Charlie. To counteract Afton, Henry made the box, and locked his most important designs inside. However, Afton discovered the box, and in anger demanded that Henry create something new for him.
In āWhat would have been #4ā I say Afton stole Henryās things, and itās Henryās desk that you rummage through in the game. The 4th tape would show Henry as Desk Manās death in FNAF World: Henryās mind has deteriorated, and he created Baby for Afton. In the tape, the lights would go out to be pitched black except for the windows, and you would hear the front door slam open. Babyās green eyes would light up with her iconic line, and when the roomās lights turn back on, it would reveal Henry dead, bleeding on the desk.
Baby
The 5th night reveals Baby was with Afton in the Security Room the whole game. After Charlie watches the 4th tape, Afton sends Baby to kill her, and she would have been the only animatronic you faced on the 5th night, besides Afton if you stayed in the box for too long. I wanted Baby to be this GIANT metal toddler that would you hear stomping and slamming throughout the building. She would be so powerful that Charlie would be unable to hold the door closed against her barge like she could with the other animatronics, so the player would have to instead balance out hiding in the box while not luring in Afton.
The ending
I unfortunately have no drawings of this, but imagine everything from Charlieās perspective. After surviving the 5th night, Baby would still to break into the room, and slam Charlie down. While her vision is fading from the impact, Golden Freddy (Michaelās ghost) would appear and slam Baby against the wall.
When Charlie slips in and out of consciousness, she would see Golden Freddy carrying her through the field above the underground building mentioned in The Twisted Ones. Golden Freddy passes Charlie to her Aunt Jen, and over Jenās shoulder Charlie would watch Golden Freddy disappear before slipping out of consciousness again. When Charlie wakes up again, sheās in a hospital room with a vase of flowers by the window, and the credits would roll.
The āsecret endingā would have been Afton walking into the gameās main room, seeing Baby damaged, slouched against the wall. Panicked, he examines her. Discovering golden matted fur, he begins to laugh. Golden Freddy and 4 other crying children ghosts appear behind Afton, and the scene would cut.
The ending would tie in the beginning scene of Charlieās dream about Michael/Golden Freddy, including her line of āMichael isnāt gone; as long as we love him, heās still here.ā The idea was that Michaelās ghost, along with the ghosts of the 4 other children, influenced Charlieās dreams since they were in the building the whole game too.
Also I just want to say that even though IĀ donāt connect that well with children, I donāt hold ANY resentment towards Scott for catering to his younger audience. Iāve seen people say in the comments of PBās gamejolt page that Scott is a sell out for catering to the kids who like FNAF. But I think they forget ( or are just completely unaware of the fact ) that Scott made MANY PC games and animations aimed towards kids before FNAF. That was always the audience he wanted to create for. It just so happened to be the horror game he made out of spite that finally attracted the audience he liked making things for. So I donāt really blame him, heās always wanted to tell stories for kids, so it just makes sense that he would be excited about fnaf kids books, graphic novels, activity books, toys, etc etc. He finally gets to just immerse himself in what heās always wanted to do, and Iām damn happy for him!!
What would have been 04: Henryās desk +Ā collectibles
Please read this if you havenāt yet!!!
Searching the desk was the āminigamesā in Project Box. During the day, when the animatronics would bury themselves underground again, Charlie would have a chance to search for anything to help her escape-- only she finds her fatherās belongings instead.
Below contains scripted dialogue Charlie had for each collectible, as well as 2 diary entries from William Afton in the mid 80s.
In the books, Henryās work is mysteriously cleaned out from his garage. In Project Box, Afton was the one who stole it all, along with Henryās desk and placed it inside the gameās main room. Henryās recordings would have a stack of work papers, with different passcodes being written each tape. By watching each tape you could unlock a different drawer from his desk.
The desk drawers
Tape 1 found on top of the desk contains the first mention the box, as well as the passcode to open the left drawer. The passcode for the left drawer would have beenĀ ā1578ā to reference the easter egg of what Baby repeats in a distorted voice in Sister Location.
Clicking the Box in the left drawer would have moved the box to the deskās top. But Iāll talk about the box in another post.
The right top drawer has a passcode that references the distortion you hear when zapping Ballora on night 2 of Sister Location. In tape 2, the writing paper on Henryās desk would read āP.H.A.S.Eā, giving the order of buttons you would press to unlock the 2nd drawer.
The right bottom drawer would have the passcode be āRWQFSFASXCā in reference to shadow Bonny ( or in Project Boxās case, twisted Springtrap ). The keypad is supposed to look like the arrangement of theĀ āQWER ASDF ZXCVā keys on the English keyboard.
The collectibles
Iāll talk about the tapes in another post.
The photographs: The first photograph is Henry and Afton at the grand opening of the original Fredbearās Family Diner. The logo was inspired by 80s logo of Pizza Time Theater. In both photos, Henry is wearing sweaters to reference Nolan Bushnell. Henryās handwriting was changed from cursive to capitalized print to differ himself from Aftonās cursive. The smudges on the polaroidās writings hint that Henry is left handed.
The blueprints and springlocks: These were to 1. hint that Fredbear and Spring Bonnyās springlocks were designed differently ( though itās hard to tell here since Spring Bonnyās blueprint isnāt actually finished... sorry LOL ). The differences in their design would play into the story, which Iāll explain in another post. I had to research how springlocks actually worked, since the best description we get is in FNAF 3.
Aftonās diary entries: Iāll explain why Aftonās diary entries are in Henryās desk in another post. These entries exist to lay the foundation of Project Boxās backstory: The history between Afton and Henry. They were inspired by the books mentioning the police finding entries written by Afton, and how they went from praising Henry to cursing him, and even showing Afton's paranoia.
Afton entry 1:
17th December, 1984:
Henry has done it again. When doubted because of his unusual designs, he manages to overcome that doubt and amaze me and our patrons with this constructions. His work could fool children with the way these machines move with the illusion of life. It makes me wonder.
Bones, veins, organs. Rods, wires, circuit boards. Humans, are we not just complex machines? What separates us from them? When a computer is dismantled, it no longer operates. There are many who think we do the same. That when a human dies, they cease to exist.
But I know better. I am well aware of the lingering āexistencesā. They watch me. They follow me. I can feel their glares on my neck even as I write this.
The machines I create are only that- machines. Iāve always envied Henryās gift of the illusion of life. But perhaps, I can finally surpass him. The life I create can be authentic. So be it.
To the souls I give gifts, bodies once more. And to the machines, I give life.
Afton entry 2:
15th March, 1985:
I once entertained the thought of getting a tattoo or two. To draw a meaningful picture on my skin. To see a mirrored version when I look in the mirror. But now, as I stand before the glass, thereās only a symmetrical pattern of rings and lines stamped across my body. Iāve grown to adore them over the months. Our scars have the power to remind us that the past was real. I can recall that day as if I dreamed it last night.
Realization in Henryās eyes as he caught me tucking a small, lifeless body into Chicaās torso. Blonde curls and a bow. I never asked for her name, I never cared. Reminiscences of my hands on her throat only moments ago were discarded by Henryās hands suddenly on my own throat. The realization in his eyes burned into anger. I was wearing Spring Bonny that day. His fingers flexed, and I collapsed on the ground as the spring locks he warned me about so many times pierced into me. The last thing I saw before blacking out was him placing Chicaās mask back onto itās shoulders, hiding the girl.
The anger in his eyes that day, however, is worth nothing to me compared to the horror that filled them days later when I returned to him unexpectedly. He thought he ended it for good. He was mistaken. I told him his son looked just like that girl with curls. It would be a shame if his daughter looked like that too.
Heās been quite cooperative since then. At least until recently. The look in his eyes now: Determination. Heās hiding something.

Aftonās entry 1: āIs this⦠why he did it? What he did to those kids... to Michael?ā
Aftonās entry 2: āThis was what dad meant in his tape. This is how he found out. Dad... Iām so sorry.ā
I did my best to create a functional building layout based on the locations of doors and pathways written of in The Twisted Ones. The small room south of the Diner ( camera 6 ) is the parts room that Charlie hides inside at one point in the book. The room immediately south of the Security room ( camera 2 ) is the elevator, but itās no longer functional due to the partial collapse of the building, like seen in the Entrance Hall ( camera 1 ). The room south to the elevator was the kitchen. In not noted anywhere, but in my head the bathroom and main entrance to the building in on the ground level. As you can see, there isnāt a camera for the black light tunnel written about in the book-- the one where Charlie and Afton fight, because I genuinely didnāt want to draw a whole mess of tunnels on the buildingās map. SO, the tunnel does connect to The Woods ( camera 4 ) but itās out of view of the camera, and itās not featured on the map. It is referenced however in the 4th image above, which Iāll get to later.
2: main gameplay cameras
The six main cameras of which you would watch out for the animatronics. Notice the torn up original animatronics. I was planning that the Mannequin animatronics ( What I call the Twisted Animatronics true form when theyāre not actually twisted ) won the battle written of in the book since theyāre MUCH larger and relatively new compared to the rotting originals. But with the Mannequins tearing apart the original animatronics, they unknowingly released the childrenās souls trapped inside. I was going to have easter eggs of the crying children kneeling next to their designated animatronic. This would come into play in the story.
The Mannequin counterparts are buried underground in the room where their original counterparts are laying around. So, Mannequin Freddy is in the Diner, Bonny in the Entrance Hall behind the counter, and Foxy in the circus. But while broken original Chica is laying in the Woods, Wolf is in the Arcade. The buried locations of the Mannequin animatronics also correlate to when they appear in the books as well.
3: the plot-important cameras
These two cameras connect the story to that of Sister Location. YES Project Box is still tied to the story of the books, but I wanted Project Box to show that Sister Locations location still exists within the world of Project Box. Both the underground buildings in Sister Location AND in the books both exist within Project Box.
For one, Observation 3 ( the camera that shows Charlie while sheās looking at the monitor ) is built off of the ideas of Observations 1 and 2, two FNAF 4 locations that are confirmed to be under Aftonās control and influence in Sister Location ( look at image 4 ). This was to hint at the idea that Afton was indeed watching Charlie the entire game. This is also referenced by the camera seen in the trailer during Freddyās jumpscare, as well as the monitors seen in the Security Room. The Security Room is the room Afton is resting in through out the game besides when heās angry that Charlie hides in the box for too long ( the box is out of Observation 3ā²s view, and Afton needs Charlie in view for reasons Iāll explain in another post ). Because the Security Room would not be available during the demo ( which I prioritized in terms of artwork being made first ), itās artwork was never finished. There was something else planned to be in the Security Room along with Afton, but itās so important Iāll write about it in another post.
4: another connection to SL and more
When on the monitor, I coded aĀ ātoggle buttonā above the map that would switch the monitorās mode fromĀ ācamera modeā toĀ āsystem modeā. The āsystemsā refer to the colored lights that emit the frequency that screwed up Charlies perception of the twisted animatronics. Unlike Sister Location, system mode would NOT actually be intractable, and you would not be able to restart any system. This is because the systems were damaged during the collapse at the end of Twisted Ones. You can see that all the system failures correspond to where you see rubble in the cameras. I was actually planning on the animatronics to appear as their mannequin forms or twisted forms depending on where they were in the cameras to correspond with the system failures.
TheĀ āExternal System of Room 14 Fun Tunnelā refers to the winding black light tunnel that I said above was not available in any camera. It completely collapsed and thus there would be no need to worry about animatronics traveling through it.
TheĀ āExternal System of Observation 4 HNRYā was in reference to the idea that Afton actually had Henry and Charlies house under observation as well, like the children from FNAF 4. I wanted Project Box to re-enforce this idea that Afton bugged practically a whole network of houses for terrible and unspeakable reasons. But even for bugging Henryās house specifically, that will be explored in another more important post.
Close up designs of the animatronics at the door, since you guys have only really seen their smaller sprites when they enter the room while you hide (the same sprites used in the trailer).
The glass on the doors throughout each night would break more and more as the animatronics slam the doors to open them. And as the glass would break, it would warp and shift the animatronicsā faces ( which technically in real life, only happens on mirrors and not transparent glass BUT SHHH ). Unfortunately I only have Freddy to show examples of that. If this was a triple A game with a budget, the shifted faces would literally warp Charlieās hallucinating perception of them completely, and they would actually look more deformed, with the extra eyes and teeth, when they enter the room as well as jumpscares. But alas, if I did that in pixel art, this game would never come out..... even if it wasnāt canceled ;)
The beginning of the game would have started with a dream sequence. It was to start off at the Michael Brooks Scholarship Launch, but as each shot changed and alternated, it would have gotten more and more spooky. The point of the scene was to show that Michael was still trying toĀ ācontactā Charlie. I know Charlie did NOT speak at the The Michael Brooks Scholarship Launch in the book, but because this was a dream, I wanted her to LOL. It would also give insight to how Charlie felt about Michael.

1: Charlie and her friends designs
[ image on the right is only a promotional piece, it wasnāt planned to be in the real game. BUT, it does provide a clear image of Charlie so I included it in this collage ] I wanted to take inspiration from various 90s characters and trends when designing the teens from the books. They would be the 6 people on the right on the audience.
2: Her speech changing into MichaelāsĀ ācontactā
I drew little rectangle doors that the books mention Charlie occasionally doodling. For Michaelās attempt at contacting her, I took inspiration from the Freddy Files and made his handwriting match the messages from that book. There is also a detailed drawing of a door to reference the fact that Michael is good at drawing.
3: Photograph of Michael mentioned in The Twisted Ones
This photograph was described in the book, and I took inspiration from 80s and 90s home photographs with flash. I wanted this to look like a photo that would actually be in your momās scrap book LOL. You can see that eventually the stuffed Freddy Michael is holding turns into Golden Freddy to make the connection of what Michael eventually became.
4: Final shot of opening sequence
The final shot of the sequence would have been Golden Freddyās FNAF 1 jumpscare shot with the FNAF 1 animatronics standing behind Charlie. I wanted the music to start off being a soft atmospheric synthwave, but on this shot it would have escalated into a chilling note.
5: Her speech
Below is her entire speech I had written:
Hello, everyone. My name is Charlie. For those who donāt know, my father, Henry, co-owned Freddy Fazbearās Pizza at the time of Michaelās passing.
To be honest, over the last decade I havenāt thought much about Hurricane. I try not to. I mean, who can blame me? But, coming back here, there are just so many memories flooding back into me.
I remember one time, when Michael and I were kids, he and his friends shut me out of Freddyās, teasing me. But, when I started to cry, Michael realized how Iād been hurt. He kept apologizing through the door. āCan you hear me?ā he said, āI donāt know if you can hear me. Iām sorry.ā He finally got my dad and was able to let me back in. He didnāt get in trouble for it, at least not as much as his friends did. [soft chuckle]
I wonder, now, what Michael would have been like, had he grown up with us. Of course he would be āthe artistā of the group, but, much more than that, I think he would be the glue. The person to hold onto his broken loved ones and do whatever it takes to put them back together.

I wanted Charlie to reference the iconic scene from the FNAF2, where the crying child died outside the restaurant. The idea was that the simple act of Michael letting Charlie back inside the restaurant was what saved her from being murdered by Afton outside the restaurant, eventually becoming the marionette. Though I donāt know if that idea would have translated well LOL.
Other references to the games include the linesĀ āCan you hear me?ā,Ā āI donāt know if you can hear me. Iām sorry.ā,Ā ā... to put them back together.ā andĀ āheās still here.ā Basically any chance I got to quote the games, I took it LMAO.
As time has passed, I better understand my relationship to this game and, most importantly, the audience it attracted.
I always knew kids were a large portion of FNAF fans, but I didnāt truly realize how large until developing this game. I basically experienced culture shock. Project Box got tons of spanny comments, ones completely irrelevant like about jacksepticeye or Bendy. I would get questions I already addressed in FAQs. I would type a whole paragraph explaining something, only to get a comment saying ātoo long, didnāt readā then asking something I had JUST explained. I donāt even know if people will read THIS whole update.
I got comments that didnāt really think logically, like people jumping to conclusions that I was Henry at the end of the trailer. I DO have short hair and glasses in my icon, but any similarities are only due to an artistic expression on the reflection of glasses. I just assumed people would understand this. There were also a lot of people under the impression that Project Box has been released-- but thatās a copy. If their username is not my username, theyāre not me. Thatās not my game. In some other fanbase this would be obvious, but FNAF has a lot of younger fans who donāt understand this.
I realized the harsh reality that I just couldnāt interact with the audience this game built every day for years. I couldnāt keep answering the same questions over and over. I couldnāt be patient with people who didnāt read a really important paragraph because itās too long. I couldnāt deal with constant references to fortnight, pewdiepie, and cuphead since they had nothing to do with Project Box itself.
I still wonder about other FNAF fan-game makers and youtubers. Are they thinking the same things I had been? Are they as frustrated as I was? I donāt know, I just knew I... couldnāt connect with the younger audience for this game. And for that, Iām sorry, I really am. But I had lost motivation because I realized thereās a huge wall between myself and the majority audience for this game.
Another thing about younger audiences is that they may not understand the changes and hardships of adulthood. I had jobs, I had to move, I had a loved one die, I had to focus on my future. All these things take up not only the time they occupy, but the emotional availability surrounding that time as well. I was exhausted and unmotivated for months at a time. And most of all, I needed money. And if I kept working on this game for years, with nothing to show for it, that would be a huge waste of valuable time. I got kids commenting ātake my donation! :)ā But I cannot accept donation after donation from KIDS or their parents. I canāt be like one of those Paul brothers who made a song about how you, a child, should buy my merch and give me money. I refuse to take advantage of kids like that! So I had come to this conclusion that I could spend years working on a game that would give me no money, for an audience I wasnāt connected with emotionally. Then, when it would be complete, I would get the post-game depression that many indie developers suffer.
Not only that, I had realized the harsh reality: besides the pretty graphics, this game would have been⦠just terrible LOL. Itās mechanics arenāt new nor innovative. Itās the bare basics from the first 4 FNAF games, but a clunky execution. What started as āI want to make a simple pixel FNAF game for funā eventually had expectations rivaling TJOC. TJOC was a step UP because itās capabilities. Project Box would have been absolutely many steps back in the FNAF formula. And for so long, I was afraid of people catching on. I was afraid of people saying āProject Box is a disappointment.ā
So, with my cards on the table, here I am again. I think I should say here, in this paragraph, that itās safe to say the game is, in fact, canceled. And I think Iāve been in denial about that for a long time. I could have said it simply in the title, but I think people would get so caught up in the word ācanceledā and not take into consideration anything else Iāve talked about. I donāt care if EVERYONE knows this game is canceled-- only the people who take the time to read what itās developer has to say.
I will always be proud of Project Box. And I will always be so, so thankful for the overwhelming positive response it got.
Something happened in my personal life where once again Project Box, a project made purely of love where I wonāt make any money, in fact will even lose money from making it, needs to be on the back burner. I really, really do want to make this game. Even in a future where FNAF is completely dead, or has been wiped from existence, I want to still complete this game--for me, and for my experience and growth. But in the position I am at this moment, I need to focus on things that have deadlines, collaborated projects where other people are relying on me to do my part, and projects that can give me earnings so that I can continue to do what I do. My computer itself is on its last legs, Iāve gone through TWO drawing tablets while making this game, Iāve had to buy other hardware and I need to save up for software. And all that is only technical stuff thatās relevant to what I do online, there is still my private life that is itās own ordeal.
I know a lot of this gameās audience is a younger one, and thatās wonderful. But I hope that younger audience understands that one will often need to put passion projects aside so they can do things that are more important. Even if the more important things keep coming back in a vicious cycle.
I will still do pixel art during this hiatus, but it is purely pixel art that will help me gain money.
Iāve had teasers on queue for the last year, but I will finally halt that queue so that people arenāt mislead into believing Iām working on the game when I am not.

Why do the animatronic's look different, near the end of the twisted ones funtime freddy gets shot 3 or 4 times and he breaks his jaw and half of his face plate is gone along with him switching between twisted and featureless. The wolf and Bonnie get set on fire were they have melted plastic over them along with some skin like thing and later get ripped apart. And there featureless state are more like skin and plastic then the metal look they have. And some more details I can't say
These are addressed in the game.
As for the slates, true, they are described as as a soft plastic that is translucent (I imagine something like transparent silicone molds as I think soft robots use that material). But drawing that kind of material in pixel art would take way to long for the amount of sprites this game requires, not to mention if I drew the slates translucent I would have to draw the chords underneath the slates as well, and that is just way too much detail for this. If I were to draw ONE picture of the mannequin animatronics instead of making an actual game, that picture would definitely have the effort of accurately drawing the material and all the chords underneath. But for this game, giving the solid slates a shine like they have is much more efficient for drawing a million times with sprites and their frames of animation.
Will you be able to know if an animatronic is at one of the doors if the window is broken?
There will be sound cues for animatronics arriving at the door that the player can hear from anywhere in the room, whether or not the window is broken.Ā
Heey, i have a question, are you coding or using drag-and-drop in gamemaker? i am the beginner developer so i dont know what i should use first, like drag-and-drop seems easy but its limited, thanks for answer
Iām currently using the drag-and-drop method, but I also use theĀ āexecute codeā action a lot for instances I donāt think any DnD button can do, but to be honest, so far Iāve seldom needed to do that. Iāve never felt limited by DnD so far. Everything Iāve pictured and wanted to do, Iāve been capable of doing. However, my game is pretty simple just being a point-and-click. I can imagine coding for platforms or top down adventure games would require more complex coding for physics and such-- which my game doesnāt need.
