Am I supposed to feel horrified after reading the First Kiss comic?

I can't provide that answer for you, since there isn't a definitive one. but here are some things to ponder that may help you delve into this if you would like to!

What do you think the purpose of the comic was? What was it trying to portray? What was it conveying?

Who do you think the intended audience is? Does that say anything about how we chose to depict the characters and events?

Was the comic emphasizing the horrific parts? Downplaying it?

But most importantly: Were you horrified? Why do you think that is?

Dude that first kiss comic is crazy like hot damn. Just saw your one post where you said it was metaphor and I was like "ohhhhhh I get it now." Like the imagery and stuff. But also wtf is going on with tenna wha- why did that happen. I feel like that one guy that grabbed superman's cape. Get back here you television, you can't just be a freak like that and then say smoking is bad for you excuse me.

We do have reasons we portray characters the way we do but sharing would be like a theatre production where the audience can see all of backstage! So generally speaking... if we want something to be clear then it will be included in the work, otherwise it's up for interpretation. ^v^

I really really love the way you use color in the first kiss comic. The subtle ways of drawing attention, or implying a change in energy. It's done so well it is like the backtrack to a film, you don't notice the subtle changes if you aren't looking but they have their effect all the same. The energy in the room going from playful to tense so quickly, it almost puts the scene on a tilt. Tenna's voice still playful and almost teasing, almost unaware of what he's doing until he realizes Spamton actually swallowed. He didn't realize the energy in the room had changed, so he thought he was just teaching Spamton a lesson. When he realizes what's really happening, how his actions have come across, he panics and back pedals but doesn't acknowledge the lines he'd blurred, simply saying what he had intended to imply about smoking and leaving. The whiplash worsening Spamton's nausea, but the sudden absence serves only to draw attention to Spamton's unconscious reaction to what just happened, and what he's left to deal with after Tenna runs off

Allow me to ramble a moment tho just because this ask opened up the opportunity. Not specifically directed at you anon just rambling on the topic in general.

it's perfectly okay to feel whatever one feels about the direction we take our stories/art, and it's okay to be confused by it too, but we're not going to hold anyone's hand. We are very specific and intentional in how we portray characters, there is purpose to what they say and do, but folks gotta come to their own conclusions, we're not going to explain what everything means. This is also an intentional choice on our part, not because we lack the insight, we just 1. don't have time nor energy to explain things all the time and 2. we think it's important that people look for answers themselves, even if their interpretation isn't accurate to what we were intending. Much like Toby Fox and David Lynch, we are vague motherfuckers on purpose lol.

But! that's why we also heavily encourage people run with whatever ideas/inspiration/theories they get from our work! If someone wanted to make their own comic or fic or whatever that basically word for word copies ours but change like 2 things to cater to their tastes then that's cool, steal our ideas and run wild!!
