Sing Me a Song || Kitty & Peter
âYouâre not a coward. Kind of stupid, yes, but not a coward.â
Peter grinned. Wasnât he the one that was supposed to be all inspirational? And then there was Kitty just being⊠perfect. Or whatever. âThank you,â he sighed, squeezing her hand. âI supposed I know it- I know I try hard and I do my best to make the right choices, to save people- And I know Iâm not a failure or a coward, but sometimes-â he stared at the table, âItâs so hard to stay hopeful after everything. You make one bad call and- It never stops, and it never will, and all there is to do is keep fighting. Find something to fight for and fight until the end.â He looked back up at her, holding eye contact, âThank you for giving me something new to fight for. Your support means the galaxy to me.â
He knew he could trust her, then. Not that he hadnât before, but there was something about her words that gave him all of the assurance he needed. Sheâd made him optimistic again. And for now, that was all he needed. He was going to find his friends and it was going to be alright. The world would keep turning, and theyâd keep fighting for peace and that was all they could do. But it was enough.
Kitty felt her cheeks blush bright red as he thanked her. She was going to try and brush it off like it was nothing, that trying to raise his spirits didnât mean all that much but that would have been a lie. Seeing it in his eyes as his attitude turned around again meant more to her than words could say. Instead she smiled at him and squeezed his hand gently, hoping that was going to be enough to communicate her feelings for now.
In the background, the band began to play a fast tune that just needed to be danced to. Kitty dragged her gaze away from Peter for a moment to look over at the dancefloor. It was full but that wasnât going to stop her.
She downed the rest of her drink and got to her feet, pulling at Peterâs hand to make sure he followed her. âCome on, Star Lord,â she said with a grin, âenough talk. Time to dance.â
She led him over to the dancefloor and she could feel the eyes of everyone else in the club follow them. She didnât care what any of them thought. Tonight was about the two of them reconnecting and while they had started to do that, Kitty wanted them to have some fun and dance the rest of the night away together.Â
