benjiro fawley, tamsinβs father, had not planned to retake the familyβs wizengamot seat, however his uncleβs ill health and lack of heir meant the future of the fawley family was his responsibility and rather than attending the prestigious wizarding schools in tokyo he attended aurelius institute where he would meet tamsinβs mother. benjiro had never fully settled into the ways of wizarding uk and he found himself incredibly homesick for his home in tokyo, fulfilling his duties to the wizengamot and the family seat via correspondence.Β
tamsin has never known what it was like to fit. despite having never lived anywhere but japan, their appearance kept them separate from their peers. and though their father had tried to take them to society events of wizarding uk, as a child they were fluent in japanese, barely passable in french (due to her orphaned, muggleborn mother), and spoke abysmal english, they couldnβt quite find comfort in children who looked like them. it took a conscious effort for them to become fluent in english and french; by then it had been too late. the lines had been drawn and they had already been marked an outsider. while this had been a major cause of despair during puberty, they found that they had no need for people that didnβt outright choose them.
there was no event that triggered their curiosity. no tragic story. they were simply under the influence when the thought occurred to them. theyβd always had a talent for transformation magic and an interest in herbology. but under the constellations, knee deep in water surrounded by lotus they were reminded of something that should have been a passing thought. the sacred lotus β a nearly mythical variety that grew only under very specific circumstances. since then they had made it their lifeβs mission to replicate the perfect environment for the elusive blossom in order to distill its essence in the purest form. in theory, if they could stabilize its magic, they may discover a panacea.Β
for several years they attempted to carry out their studies in tokyo, but the greenhouses were insufficient. the libraries, though vast, were void of paracelsusβ studies or insufficiently translated and they waited weeks for owls to deliver parcels from aurelius institute which housed a surprising amount of literature on alchemy, spagyrics, and panacea. in the new year of their second year,Β they applied for transfer and by september they were in aurelius.Β
there are many familiar faces in aurelius, people they know by name due to the society events they had been forced to attend, but none that would be ecstatic to see them in the halls. though they are not opposed to making deeper connections, they simple do not know how and are hindered by their single-minded focus on their studies. theyβre highly averse to large crowds at parties, though they love a small get-together. though they love high-speed flying, they have never taken to quidditch. they always have their magical equivalent to airpodsmax on their ears, though they are rarely ever playing music. they frequent the greenhouses, having commandeered one to replicate an ice cavern and have just surrounded it with the right mix of flora and fauna for the sacred lotus to grow.
