The walls of the Bird Cage Theatre in Tombstone still have the bullet holes in them, more than a hundred of them, and the building's never been repapered.

It ran from 1881 right through Tombstone's silver boom, and it hosted everything a boomtown wanted: theater, gambling, a saloon, and a red-light operation upstairs in the hanging boxes that gave the place its name. The gunfights were real enough that the walls still carry the record of them. When the silver market crashed and the mines flooded, Tombstone emptied out fast, and the Bird Cage closed its doors and sat sealed for decades, which is the only reason so much of the original interior survived.

You can still stand where the piano player stood and count the holes yourself.
