“YOU KNOW I GET FLUSTERED EASILY.” ace whines back, matching his boyfriend’s tone before letting out a chuckle. “oh yeah? is that a threat or a promise, huh? because you better fight me now.” if anyone were to hear their conversations, they would think the couple was crazy, but they were just in love and happy. was that such a crime? ace feels a warmth grow in his body from the top of his head and spread all the way down to the tips of his toes when he watches the boy press a gentle kiss to his knuckles. he can’t help himself as he uses the same hand to cradle the boys face, pulling him in softly to press their lips together in what starts out as a sweet kiss. but, ace can’t help himself, his hand moving to grip the back of jaewon’s neck and he’s shifting their weight, starting to roll his lover onto his back, free hand moving to grip his waist. he parts their lips just enough, breathing a bit labored. “i’m so in love with you, jaewon.”

“ AND I LOVE MAKING YOU FLUSTERED. ” messing around with his boyfriend just to see him get all shy and bashful has got to be one of his favorite things in the world, even though that usually backfires on him when ace starts teasing him right back. just as jaewon is about to open his mouth to speak, the words end up dying on his lips when the other pulls him in for a tender kiss, rendering him speechless. soon enough, the smaller boy is sprawled out on his back, practically melting underneath his lover as the kiss deepens, becoming slightly more passionate and urging him to let out a content sigh against ace’s lips. “ i love you. ” he whispers once their lips finally part ways, wrapping his arms around the other’s neck to hold him close. “ again, kiss me again, please. ”

SEEING JAEWON’S FACE LIGHT UP was one of the only things that brought him pure happiness. it was so easy to figure out what the boy needed, he was usually very vocal about it and ace was happy to give him whatever he wanted. “that’s not true, you’re such a better kisser. you might enjoy kissing me but you’re definitely better at it.” this was one of the most trivial things to argue over but it made his toes curl with happiness because it was so innocent. “yeah, i know what you mean. i feel like i’m floating when you touch me.” his voice drops a bit, as if he didn’t want anyone else to hear him ( as if anyone was even around ). “i’ve never felt this way before.”

" C’MON, JUST LET ME COMPLIMENT YOU. ” a quiet whine leaves jae’s lips, just as it usually happens whenever he wants to have the last word in their silly arguments — which aren’t really arguments in the first place. “ don’t make me fight you, because i’m seriously going to punch you in the lips. with my own mouth. ” that’s about as threatening as jae can be, especially when his boyfriend is being so sweet, nearly making his heart melt. “ me neither. you’re really one of a kind, ace. ” he finds himself gulping, unable to tear his gaze away from ace’s eyes while he takes one of his hands in both of his smaller ones, bringing it up to his mouth and then pressing a gentle kiss to his knuckles.

ACE CAN’T HELP BUT CHUCKLE at jaewon’s words, because he was right – he was being stubborn at the time. but, to be fair, he had no idea what was eventually going to happen between the two. “i mean we do look so much better together, have you seen us? we’re hot.” he murmurs as he leans in and kisses his cheek. “i did, but you’re definitely prettier. you’re funnier, you’re more caring, more interesting. she could never compare to you, ever.” he sends him a wink after he feels jaewon press a soft kiss to his lips. “way better, you know you’re a really good kisser, right?” his eyebrows raise, thinking back on all the moments they’ve shared together. “almost too good, i’m a bit jealous of it.”

ONE OF THE COUNTLESS THINGS he loves about ace is that he always knows exactly what he wants to hear — he can tell when jae needs praise and validation, when he wants to be comforted, or when to step back and give him some space. “ what have i even done to deserve someone like you? you’re so sweet to me, baby. ” the corners of his lips curl up into a coy smile as he listens to the other, quirking an eyebrow at him. “ oh, really? but i actually happen to think you’re much better than me. i could spend hours just kissing you. ” it’s almost as if he’s insatiable, like he can’t get enough of ace’s lips. “ you know, no one’s ever kissed me or touched me like you do. i don’t even know how to describe it. ”

          “would you have rather i assume that you didn’t have nudes ?” her thumbs continued to tap away quietly at his screen, falling silent as they did. it wasn’t until she was done scouring for his mail app that she glanced up briefly to grin at him. email verified. nice. “i mean, even i have nudes, you can’t tell me you don’t have any.” was she avoiding his question ? yes  —  and though he made no moves to take his phone back, she was ready to make a run for it at any given move he made. 

       “ why is that so hard to believe? i really don’t have any nudes. ” you see, it’s not like hyunjin is a prude, regardless of how shy he is — alas, he’s just so painfully single that it’s not even funny anymore at this point. “ i mean, i’m not seeing anyone right now, so... ” cue a supposedly nonchalant shrug. “ but seriously, what are you doing? ” his voice sounds just the slightest bit nervous now, a small pout adorning his lips as he reaches out in a rather weak attempt to snatch his phone back. “ c’mon, jo. ”

ACE CAN’T HELP THE SMALL CHUCKLE that passes his lips as jaewon speaks about being jealous. the moment seemed so far away from where they were now, like it was years ago but in reality was just a few months prior. “i thought she was pretty, i thought maybe something would happen. i talked to her once after that conversation and realized right away that she was nothing of my type and i kept comparing her to things that i liked. things that i liked in you but just kept telling myself it was a coincidence.” he says, before leaning in to press a kiss to the boy’s pouted lips. ace lets out a hum at his question, “it had happened only a few times. once was a dream, once i was drunk and saw you making out with some guy at a bar, and the other was when you were sick and asked me to take care of you.” he remembers it so specifically, his fingers absentmindedly drawing circles into jae’s skin. “you just looked so small and fragile, your lips were all pouty, i wondered if i kissed you would it all just go away.”

ONE KISS IS NEVER ENOUGH, so when his boyfriend gives him a brief peck, jae finds himself chasing his lips and kissing him a bit more insistently. “ mhm, i remember telling you she wasn’t your type, but your stubborn ass was like, ‘oh, really? then what’s my type, huh?’ and i honestly just wanted to scream that it should be me, that you and i would look so much better together. ” he can’t help but let out a bashful chuckle, because it all feels so silly now that they’re finally together. “ so you really did think she was pretty — but i’m prettier, right? ” and there he goes again, shamelessly fishing for compliments, looking at the other with the sultriest expression he can muster before he ends up laughing once again and giving him yet another kiss. “ i hope the real thing is better than you’d imagined. ”

ACE HAD NEVER FELT SO INSECURE BEFORE but the nagging thought of one day losing jaewon was so scary, it was what his worst nightmares were made of. his head is swirling with thoughts that are soon silenced when he feels jaewon pressing kisses to his lips over and over again. he’s kissing him with the same amount of passion and love, trying to pour out all of his emotions as best as he could. “i love you.” he finds himself whispering before he hears jaewon’s words, letting out a soft chuckle, giving him a bit of a squeeze to let him know he was there. “sort of? you wouldn’t let me get off the couch.” ace laughs at the memory but lets out a sigh. “i was surprised when that happened, but obviously i didn’t know any better. i thought you just wanted to hang out with me, but looking back i can see it.” he presses a soft kiss to his forehead. “if it makes you feel any better, i hung out with her one time and all i could think about was how our conversations are much better. i guess i could never stop thinking about you.”

THE DAZZLING STARS ARE SHINING ever so brightly above them, yet jae can’t seem to look away from his lover, as if the boy is far more stunning than any star out there. “ i was so jealous back then, even though you weren’t even mine. isn’t that silly? i didn’t even want to admit i was in love with you, yet i still felt threatened, because i thought she was really pretty and you’d totally try to make a move on her. ” the smaller boy’s plush lips jut out into a small pout for a brief moment, but then he laughs, folding his arms on ace’s chest and resting his chin on them, gazing straight into his beautiful eyes. “ have you ever wondered what it’d be like to kiss me? i mean, before it actually happened? ”

IT’S SCARY NOT TO REMEMBER, especially something so pinnacle in their relationship. ace seemed to have blocked out an entire night that could have helped him figure out things quicker and easier, but instead the fact that it was gone from his memory made things scary and impossible. “you don’t have that many bad habits.” he teases, giving jaewon a squeeze as he winked at him. to be fair, they managed to go around their quirks and flaws in their day to day lives like it was nothing, it wasn’t really that big of a deal to either of them. ace feels his cheek give into the feeling of jae’s hand and he kisses him back, pressing him closer to his body. his ears are red from jaewon’s words, the way they stung made his heart ache and his stomach flutter. it was a good feeling. “promise me.” his eyes don’t open but he presses his forehead against his boyfriends, feeling himself grip his boyfriend. ace had never realized the anxiety that came with the idea of losing jae, his chest tightening as he tried to even out his breath. “please, promise me that you’re mine. that you’re not leaving me.”

“ I PROMISE. ” the words slip past jaewon’s lips in a heartbeat, without a single hint of hesitation whatsoever. why would he ever leave him now that they’re finally together? why would he give up on the love of his life? being with ace is nothing short of a dream come true, something he’s wanted for such a long time, perhaps longer than the other even imagines. “ i love you, baby. i love you more than anything else in the world. ” which is why he finds himself kissing the taller boy over and over again, almost desperately, as if he’s trying to pour every single ounce of his love and affection into each kiss. “ i’m all yours, now and forever. i mean, i’ve always been yours, even before you actually wanted me. ” although his statement sounds slightly bittersweet, the chuckle that leaves his lips afterwards is just thoroughly amused. “ remember that one time when i sort of threw a temper tantrum because you were flirting with our new neighbor? i’m pretty sure i already liked you back then, but i just didn’t want to admit it. ”

A BLUSH SCATTERS OVER HIS SKIN at the feeling of jaewon kissing him. he’s not sure what people thought of their story, although he didn’t really care. but, from the outside looking in it could seem that all the odds were against them. two best friends who were scared to fall in love? it was destined to be some sort of tragedy, something was supposed to go wrong. ace and jaewon loved beating out the odds though. he sighs softly when he feels jae push himself up and practically on top of him. it was these types of moments that reminded him how lucky he was that someone loved him so much. ace finds himself chuckling at the other’s words, they were quite literally stuck together. “i’ll never get tired of hearing that.” he finally whispers as he lets a few moments of silence pass between them. “i’m scared that one day you’ll realize that you can do so much better than me.” the words slip out before he can realize he’s saying them. “better than someone who made you wait so long for this.”

IT’S NEVER EASY TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE, especially when there’s no guarantee that your feelings will be reciprocated in the end. luckily enough, in jaewon’s case, it all turned out to be worth it, because now he’s happier than he’s ever been. “ please don’t say that, baby. i’m so lucky to have you. who else would put up with my needy self? who else would still be so in love with me even after living together under the same roof and seeing all my flaws and bad habits? ” because jaewon is by no means perfect, and neither is ace, but they’re perfect for each other, and that’s the only thing that really matters. “ i don’t want anyone else but you, ace. you're the only man i love, the only one i need. don’t ever forget that. ” one of his hands comes up to cradle the side of his love’s face, caressing his cheek ever so gently as their lips meet in a meaningful kiss. “ my heart, my soul, my body, they all belong to you. ”

ALTHOUGH THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME they’ve brought up that night, it’s not often that they do. he wasn’t sure if it was because they were embarrassed or because they tried to hide it, or because it was just a lot of emotions wrapped up in one memory. but, it was apart of their history and they needed to talk about it. ace listens intently, hanging on every word that jaewon is confiding in him about, the pads of his fingers rubbing soft circles into his skin. he’s sure his heart is beating fast, that jaewon would notice and see how vulnerable he feels about this. “i wouldn’t have drifted apart from you if things turned out different.” he admits, although it’s a worry they don’t need to have anymore. “you’d never lose me because romantically or not, at that moment you were my best friend, i mean you still are – you know what i mean.” he chuckles as he shakes his head, knowing he wasn’t the best with words. “i wasn’t scared of falling in love, i was scared of falling in love with you. i was scared of losing you if something went wrong. we both pretty much have the same fear at different times.” he pulls back a bit to look at jae’s face. “you’re never going to lose me, jaewon.” 

HE CAN FEEL HIS LOVER’S HEART THUMPING underneath his palm, matching his own frantic heartbeat, a palpable reminder of how deeply and irrevocably in love they both are. it makes the smaller boy smile, burying his face into the crook of his boyfriend’s neck to press a gentle kiss right over his pulse point and humming quietly against his skin. he knows that love is often fleeting and ephemeral, that life is unpredictable and far too tragic at times, yet he wants to believe that their story will be, indeed, a beautiful one, filled with happiness and joy. “ that’s good, because you’re totally stuck with me now — quite literally, since we’re in the middle of nowhere. ” a playful grin settles upon jae’s lips as he slowly leans closer and closer to the other until his body is draped halfway across him, leaving a trail of tender little kisses along his sharp jawline. “ i know you’re probably tired of hearing this, but you’re mine. ”

“OH DO I? he must be really handsome then.” he gives a quick wink as he feels jae boop his nice and plant a kiss on his lips. ace finds himself humming as he snuggles himself closer to his boyfriend, his hands moving under his shirt and trailing his fingers up and down his spine as they laid with each other. “i love you, so much.” he’s pretty sure he never knew what love felt like until he met jaewon, there was no way he had felt this way towards anyone else – ever. “why do you say that?” he asks, feeling his heart sink a bit at jaewon’s words. “i don’t want you to think that, that you’re not good enough or something.”

“ DON’T WORRY, BABY. that’s not what i meant. you always make me feel so loved and appreciated. ” he does, he truly does — jae has never had such a caring partner. “ i know i’m a really optimistic person, so you might find it hard to believe me, but... i was so damn scared at first, you know? i mean, after that night, when we got drunk and made out. ” that’s a topic he rarely, if ever, brings up, simply because he doesn’t want ace to feel guilty about not remembering their first kiss. “ i was so afraid that i’d end up losing you, that you’d realize you didn’t actually feel the same way about me and we’d drift apart. ” his voice is soft as he speaks, resting his hand on the left side of his boyfriend’s chest, right over his heart. “ one time, you told me you were scared of falling in love. i’m not. i’ve never been afraid of falling in love, or getting hurt. my biggest fear is losing the people i love. ”

ACE HAD BEEN DREAMING of this moment for two years. two whole years of dating someone who he never for one second thought he could fall more in love with, but somehow it happened every. single. day. jaewon was his sun, the reason he woke up in the morning was just to see the smile on his face. he was ace’s moon, feeling the way his arms wrapped around him at night always lulled him fast to sleep. jaewon was the earth, making him feel grounded when he felt like he was floating away. he was air, always there when ace turned around, reliable and constant. jaewon had formed from his roommate and best friend, to his soulmate and life partner; and his (hopefully) soon-to-be-husband.
