so uh. I have been informed that some of the items I got on my last diving trip (namely this one) are like. Incredibly Expensive. I have frankly no interest in my little shop being swarmed by collectors so… it’s up for grabs. for free. first come first serve. it’s only slightly soggy now.

yo yo yo! I’ve got new wares in my shop from my diving trip this weekend. I hit a total jackpot- something that I think was a primitive human museum of sorts? they’re still pretty soggy, but these will be at my place this week once they’ve dried up.

anyways I know we’re all over it now, but the idea of ‘secret salmonid lazer’ is so funny. we have those they’re called Stingers and litterally everyone who’s ever seen a run knows about them. my little brother is a Stinger. I got him a second hand frying pan for his birthday and he was overjoyed.

hate when people think the only archetype possible for a male sidekick to a female protagonist is a soft boi and/or himbo. like the implication there is that the only reason a man would ever defer to a woman’s authority is if he was a bumbling idiot. love male supporting characters who are smart and strong and confident and can step up when necessary but still kind and humble enough to let someone else take the lead most of the time

I’m a bit pissed today but it is appalling as someone who literally only has scraps of memory how bad inkfish on the surface treat Salmonids and how little they know about them. Like I have a whole salmonid line of memcakes and used to be in charge of the transport of power eggs back when I was part of the army.

So I gotta ask,

Would you like me, Argo, to explain the culture to you + why I find Grizzco appalling? (Ooc: in character explanation, of canon, headcanons and made up stuff on salmonid language)

Alright so disclaimer, some of this might be incorrect, and while I’m a ex salmonid translator I am also sanitized and that splatted my memory so sorry for inaccuracies.

However, what is important for inkfish to know is that Salmonid’s are not less intelligent than us, we’re just culturally and biologically different. Don’t be zoomorphobic alright?

Firstly a lot of inkfish only see salmonids when they’re spawning, which is when they are going to freshwater areas to be able to breed and raise young. This has given them the title of barbaric when this is not true and in the off season they’re pretty chill.

Now the reason they get so aggressive during the runs is because it’s important culturally, biologically and spiritually for them to seek out fights. As salmonids grow they need to face a level of challenge to develop into boss salmonids which helps them protect eggs while also upping attractiveness. This need can often cause under stimulation in spawning salmonids which can cause them to be aggressive. However they view rushing into battle to protect their spawn to be spiritual fulfilling, and see themselves as playing their part in the circle of life. Due to this they do not fear death and instead wish to have all their parts used, especially via consumption. Which, yeah all the food imagery in salmonid controlled areas is due to this belief.

Now due to all this I personally don’t have a problem with Grizzco fighting them. They need opposition to grow, and if you get power eggs and use them as energy, well at least you’re using all their parts. And we’ve had trade agreements in the past for power eggs when the Octo army was together.

However when it’s golden eggs is when I feel angry. Because while power eggs are unfertilized golden eggs are fertilized, and it is unethical to steal someone’s fertilized eggs without consent, and this causes harm to the environment due to krill overpopulation due to a lack of salmonids. I also do think that the lack of salmonids and the uptick in big runs (which should be once every 70 years) are unrelated. However I got no proof :/.

yeah as a salmo myself you basically hit all the big points! runs are suuuuper important, and even tho I personally don’t participate (I’m a snatcher, not a chum or cohock) I do still get the intense instinctive agressiveness when I feel like my territory or spawn are being threatened.

also, totally on point about the view of death! it isn’t scary, it’s just another way to provide for our families. if another salmonid (or inkfish) is strong enough to defeat one of us, then they deserve to consume us so they can protect their own better. personally, I hope to be salt-preserved or maybe breaded.

what’s going on?? I’m a salmonid in the middle of moving onto dry land for my scavenging business and suddenly people are telling me it’s not safe for salmos to be out n about?? is something happening??
