Marian nodded quickly, then stepped back as the queen started to pace, recognizing that the woman was once again in pain. Marian felt unsure if she should offer assistance again; she didn’t have much experience with pregnant women, and she knew better than to upset the queen once more with an ill spoken word.
However, she felt a slow smile creep across her face as the woman’s tone began to change. She still knew to mind her tongue, but it seemed like the queen was less inclined to send her to the dungeons for an ill spoken word now.
“Really?” She asked, grinning. “That’s interesting. Do you want a boy or girl?” She hoped the question wasn’t too out of line, but she had a strange curiosity forming.
The queen's features contorted in ache once more as another sense of pain came to hit her, not as severe as the kick she had gotten before but enough to call forth another wince from the woman. "It doesn't matter what I want," she countered in a peeved tone, gaze firmly attached to the ground to hide her inner struggle. She was choking back another wince from escaping her, not wanting to make it seem as if she needed the girl's aid again. Being at the mercy of her pregnancy was humiliating enough, and it wasn't as if she didn't have a fair range of maids to serve her whenever she sought a helping hand. "It's going to be a girl."Â
