Well itās been a while since Iāve had the opportunity to travel. Sometimes life comes up and puts dreams on hold. As you know by now traveling is my passion. And anytime I get to explore somewhere new or revisit a city I love my dreams come true. Wow that was super corny lol. So hereās part one of my trip to Texas.
Texas. The lone star state. The big ass state where everyone wears cowboy hats no matter the occasion. Where big open spaces are filled with ranches and cattle. Garth Brooks and Shania Twain blast out of every pick up truck. Well thatās what I pictured Texas to be thanks to movies, and TV. Texas is so much more than that. Itās a huge state with plenty of character to go around. And yes everything is bigger in Texas, that myth is true.
My direct flight took me straight to Houston, Texas in about 2 1/2 hours. This flight was super easy and awesome because it was a direct flight. Which we all know are superior to connecting flights that always end in lost luggage, delayed flights, and running barefoot across the airport to make your connection.Ā That last one was an exaggeration but you know what I mean. Once I landed I collected my bag and met up with a friend.
We only spent a day in Houston before making our way to Austin. This was because of how my friend scheduled the trip, (we still had time to explore Houston at the end of our trip.) I will discuss Houston in Part 2!
Next stop was a two hour drive to Austin!
Austin is a vivacious city perfect for young travelers. Austin has tons of shopping, great eating, and unique sightseeing. We only had one night in Austin so we tried to see and do as much as we could. Ā Ā First, was a personal favorite of mine that I found out about on Snapchat before we arrived. A few blocks from downtown is the popular Castle Hill graffiti park. It is a park filled with graffiti done by any artist wanting to showcase their work. Once you climb to the top there is an amazing view of Austinās skyline. I mean just look at these pictures from the graffiti park and tell me thatās not the coolest thing you have ever seen.
This place is perfect for picturesā¦..clearly. We spent the rest of the day shopping, and eating Mexican food that made me die and go to heaven. Torchyās Tacos is spicy but amazing. Iām not the biggest fan of super spicy food but this place was dank. Another food stop we had to hit up was Whataburger. The popular fast food joint is all across Texas, they freakin love it. I can now see why, it was what I expected and more.
We also did a little more sightseeing by the river. The houses and buildings in Austin are super cute by the way. ThatĀ night we went to see the Trail of Lights. This is a Christmas lights show that goes on for miles near downtown Austin. It took forever to park because there were so many people but once we did it was great! We even found a random guy that had been to our small ass hometown in North Carolina. There were all types of lights, decorations, and motorized exhibits. You walk at your own pace through the arches and trails. There were all kinds of themed displays including, animals, movie and tv characters, and plenty of Texas pride. This was also a great place to take pictures. As we left and headed to our car we noticed the spectacular view of downtown. My phone was acting up so these were the only shots I got. The skyline is awesome, especially at night. Austin was a fun city to see and I would love the opportunity to go back and see even more.
The next day and another road trip, this time to San Antonio!
The drive from Austin to San Antonio was a short 1 1/2 hour trek. My close friend that I went to Texas with is in the navy. She was stationed in San Antonio right after boot camp. This helped in seeing the city since she knew all of the best places. It did rain the whole day we were there so that sucked.
I love to shop on vacation so we had to hit up the local mall lol. After that we headed to the river walk and the Alamo. Because of the stupid rain I didnāt get any good shots of these locations but just trust me that they are cool. The river walk is a great place to walk, eat, shop, and socialize. The Alamo was great to see, you could tell that tons of history lied there.
Our stop for lunch was my favorite part of San Antonio. We went to Luluās Bakery & Cafe in San Antonio. It is the home to the world-famous 3 POUND cinnamon rolls. They are huge! I first heard about the cinnamon rolls on Facebook in a Buzzfeed video where they showcased the massive pastries.
As you can see they are indeed large and in charge. They are picture worthy and smell delicious. Not only do they look amazing but they taste as good as they look. I am a huge fan of cinnamon rolls and these were perfect! Iād definitely recommend stopping by Luluās just to get a glimpse at these bad boys.
After our short day spent in San Antonio we headed to Corpus Christi. This was about a 2 hour drive from San Antonio. The drive was easy and we got there in one piece! Look out for my part 2 blog post on my Texas trip. Donāt mess with Texas: Part 2, will include Corpus Christi and Houston, Texas.
