It was a lot harder to care about someone else when his emotions were frozen over, but Kole had at least fixed the goal in his mind to get Raena some help and it was far easier to block everything else out and focus on his goal. The ice would melt quickly without him there to maintain it and there was only a little blood at the scene- most of it was on him, but a spread of ice over it meant that it couldn’t be smelled from far away. Those were all things that he hoped would help, but really had only put half a mind to. He slid through the streets, giving little mind or care to the mortals in his path- they’d either move or get run over- because the faster he could get back, the sooner Raena would have help.
“Don`t tell me I have to do this all the way back to Camp?” Raena muttered halfway through when she noticed that the same path they had used earlier. She couldn`t really stay still, afraid of getting caught by the Romans, but she had she can`t risk them discovering exactly where the Greek Camp was. She let go of her melting and ducked behind a garbage bin. Hoping no one was following and watching her, she chanted for a good couple of minutes, replicating the ice path in different streets. It would at least confuse the Romans and by the time they figured out that there lots of wet pavement, the only path that led to Camp Half-Blood was already dry. As soon as she was done, she checked her reflection on a small puddle on the ground and turned the colour of her hair brown and tied it up in a ponytail. She also changed the colour of her coat to a darker brown, slashing the other sleeve to make the other cut look like some sort of a design. She could fight all day, but she has already spent a good amount of her energy today with her magic and there`s a bigger chance Raena will lose if she doesn`t return soon. Next time, though, she knows she`ll have to train Kole for scenarios like this.

Kole wasn’t entirely unused to fighting, per se, but he didn’t like what happened to him when he had to. Khione kids- or maybe just him, he hadn’t really met any others- had a habit of freezing over when they were pushed too hard and Kole hated when that happened to him because he didn’t like who he became. Nonetheless… If he didn’t get backup from Camp, who knew what could happen to Raena and that meant he had to survive, to get away.
It meant leaving piles of dust behind him and not caring that his favourite hoodie now had extra holes that probably couldn’t be stitched up, and stains that probably couldn’t be washed out. At least, not by him. He pressed his hand over the worst of it and let ice spread before taking off. He remembered the way back to Camp and could just Jack-Frost his way there with a sled and a track made of ice. Hopefully. It would be quicker than limping and being monster bait.
Raena quickly covered up the cut on her arm, before popping a tiny bit of godly food. She did all of this while walking, couldn`t be bothered with the daggers coming with her. Before she turned to another corner, she noticed the slightly cooler air, and saw faint tracks of snowflakes that eventually turned to actual ice. What the fuck? If Kole meant to do this to show Raena where he went, then Kole was also calling out the monsters to follow them. And just as she thought of that, a monster had taken a step towards here from the shadows that quickly turned to dust when she threw two quick daggers to the monster. Hopefully, Kole could reach Camp before any monster noticed his fresh tracks that Raena would have to undo first, at the risk of her own life. She selfishly wished that the Romans haven`t been lucky with Echidna--that was too harsh, so maybe they were just wounded enough that they wouldn`t be able to follow Raena and Kole, given that Raena had given the monster some advantage.

Kole didn’t like leaving Raena behind, but he wasn’t a fighter and he believed her when she said she’d get away, too. He just had to make sure he wasn’t dead weight to her. That was easier said than done, considering he hadn’t thought about the fact that there might be more than one monster, or the fact that they might be clever enough to set a trap. He stumbled back until he hit a wall and exhaled. The temperature dropped around him suddenly and sharply enough to crack the asphalt and give the monsters just enough pause for him to try to get away again. He felt sharp claws rake against him, but just as soon as that had happened, ice crept over the injury, sealing it for now. He’d be fine as long as he made it back to Camp and could send people to help Raena.
Raena looked back before she turned the corner. The Roman Campers` focus were now on the monster except for one kid who was looking at her in surprise. She knew the girl, a member of her cohort. Too bad, Raena told herself. Whatever the young girl`s reason was for being here, Raena was going to abandon them, just like they did to her years ago.
She kept running, followed by her floating daggers. Shit, shit, shit. Raena and Kole had never agreed on any meeting place but Camp, and now she doesn`t know where he is. She only paused for a bit to see blood flowing from her arm, just right above her tattoo, likely caused from when she moved while Kole was directing the ice to the monster. This was bad. She was basically pointing an arrow to where she was to any monster that could be lurking in the streets of New York.
raena-andromedus‌:
“Shit, shit, shit…” Kole was right, Raena could hear voices from the other side of the ice wall. “I’m gonna make her angry and you have to be ready to shatter that and run fast because your life dependa on it. Use half of the ice to stab her. See you on the other side.” Without looking back at the younger demigod, she stepped forward and threw her daggers at the monster to let it grow and show its true self.
Kole glanced at Raena and then back to the old woman, chewing at his lip. “…Okay.” He’d never split a wall in two directions, but now was the time to learn, he supposed. He created a large crack in the wall and when Raena moved, he shattered it. One side send shards of ice towards the Roman troops, the other send shrapnel towards the monster. Hopefully it helped. He hesitated just a second to look at Raena, and then he started to sprint away.
As Raena expected, the monster easily deflected the daggers, slapping one of them quickly. But she was ready for it and she pulled the daggers back, effectively cutting the monster and making some disgusting goo flow. The old woman roared in anger—it was not here to play. At the very least, Kole had the element of surprise when he took the wall down; Raena was trapped between the monsters and some injured Romans. They looked up at what just happened, seeing Raena standing there. They had cuts—nice work of Kole, but nothing fatal—and looked just shocked at everything. And for a half second, she doubted her crazy plan. But this was all she could think of the moment, so without looking at their eyes, she made a quick spell to bind them down until she ran past her, releasing them once the monster's focus was not on her anymore.
raena-andromedus‌:
“Kole?” Raena had stopped short when she had turned around. Somehow, the old woman had apparently caught up to them and was smiling at them now. She stepped back, now pulling a set of daggers from her coat pockets. “I`d risk punching all their dicks instead.”
Kole gasped as he saw the old woman and he fumbled for the dagger in his pocket, accidentally cutting himself on it because he wasn’t used to them. “I can take down the wall, but they’re right on the other side of it. I can feel them touching the ice…” And there were more Romans, but only one of this…whatever it was. He’d still follow her lead, though. She was the smart one here. He took a breath and prepared to shatter the ice wall outwards, hopefully buying them some time against the Romans, unless Raena wanted to go up against this thing, in which case, he didn’t know what he’d do.
"Shit, shit, shit..." Kole was right, Raena could hear voices from the other side of the ice wall. Kole startled as Raena slapped the person’s hand away- fully supportive of the action but nonetheless surprised by it anyway. He looked between them for a moment, long enough to realize that something was going on, before he stomped his foot. Ice crackled to life, forming a thick wall that completely blocked them off. They’d have to find another way to get to them and hopefully, he and Raena would be long gone by then. He turned to follow her, eyes wide. “Are you okay?” She’d done more damage than anyone else had had the chance to, but he was still worried.
“Kole?” Raena had stopped short when she had turned around. Somehow, the old woman had apparently caught up to them and was smiling at them now. She stepped back, now pulling a set of daggers from her coat pockets. “I`d risk punching all their dicks instead.”
raena-andromedus‌:
Raena slowed down for a second to let Kole catch up so they were walking side by side. She just hoped they weren`t followed or they could be traped between the Romans and some unknown monster. “Left,” she murmured as they turned a corner. But her heart dropped to the ground when they came face to face with one of the Romans, squeezing Kole`s arm for a second. At this point, Raena had no idea if her hair was still blonde, because even if it was the usual green, that was dark enough to let people remember her as Raven. “Excuse me,” the daughter of Trivia Hecate spoke, clinging to the hope that this was all a big mistake.
Kole kept his hands in his pockets, not really intending to grab the dagger that Raena had given him, but preparing to lash out with ice nonetheless. If it helped them get away, he was plenty willing to skewer someone with ice. Only if he had to, though. He inhaled sharply as Raena squeezed his arm, but it wasn’t because he was hurt. He knew what that meant- whoever this person was, was not someone friendly. He shifted a little, prepared to put enough ice between them and this stranger to make them think twice about attacking- it was hard to hit someone with a wall or spears of ice between you and them.
Raena had anticipated it. Once the Roman—she thinks he can't be older than 18—reached out to her, she immediately slapped his hand away. Accidental or not, she hated that men always had to touch women when they have to pass. And unfortunately, that action gave her away.
"Ow!" the boy yelled, clearly hurt. Maybe Raena had put too much force on that slap, but it was too late and they had already attracted some attention. He looked at her first, recognization appearing on his face. "I know y—"
Raena didn't let him finish and pressed her fist on his nose—and for good measure, kneed him where it should hurt. She would've gasped at what she'd done, hurting one of the Romans, but they had killed her a long time ago. "C'mon!" she told Kole, turning back where the boy came from.

Kole stiffened as Raena frowned and he glanced over his shoulder briefly. Oh no. No, he was not dealing with this. He had only wanted a nice day out with Raena and this just wasn’t fair. He let Raena take his arm and dropped the temperature a bit in preparation to create an ice wall around them. He didn’t know how the mortals would take it, but that didn’t matter. Between the Romans and whatever that was… He didn’t give a damn about the mortals right now.

Kole hesitated and then took the dagger. He…really didn’t want it, but there was little sense in arguing right now. He’d sooner just abandon it somewhere, but for now he stuck it in his hoodie pocket for lack of a place to put it. He glanced over his shoulder, paranoid, and then back at her. “I want to go home.”
“We`ll go...home...” Raena frowned slightly behind Kole. She had ignored the old woman walking in the same alleyway, thinking it was just a mortal minding her own business, but she walked funny and off. “Let`s go.” She took Kole`s arm and pulled him back towards where they came from.
snowflaketragedy‌:
Kole winced. “Because I don’t fight people. I hate it.” He stuck his hands into the pocket of his hoodie and fidgeted with them, looking for all the world like a puppy scared of getting kicked again. He stared at the dagger for a long moment. “I- I don’t-” He pulled his hands out of his pockets, a thin dagger of ice held in one hand. “I don’t need it.” And he didn’t want it, that was a real weapon and Kole didn’t want to be responsible for it.
“Don`t be stupid.” Raena frowned at Kole`s refusal but still held out the dagger. They could be wasting few seconds of time right now. “They won`t have mercy and ice melts quickly depending on your focus. Take it.”
raena-andromedus‌:
“Didn’t you count them? Four boys and one girl. They’re all weak.” But Raena didn’t mention that if she was facing them alone, it was her against five. “If a fight ensues, I’ll make it quick.”
“I didn’t get a good look.” Kole ducked his head, embarrassed, but the truth of the matter was that he didn’t want to be a good fighter, so he wasn’t a good fighter until things went sideways and then he was and he hated it. Hated being like that. It was scary. He shook his head at her. “No, no, if a fight happens, you have to run. There’s five of them, and it only takes one lucky shot.” If she was going to insist on fighting, then he was going to insist on staying with her, so that the odds were at least slightly more even.
"How can you survive if you don't know your enemies?" Raena almost hissed. She should've insisted she help Kole train, or even just in tactics. "They're almost just mortals, Kole. Nothing to be afraid of. We have our godly abilities as a huge advantage." Slipping a hand in her coat, she brought out a celestial bronze dagger and handed it to the son of Khione. "No fighting for you unless you really need to."
raena-andromedus‌:
“Only me. They don’t like me.” Raena pretended to look at the back of her boots but she was actually checking behind them. No one following them so far. “I will. We`re both survivors, remember? Anyway, there was five of them. I think I can handle them with a few tricks.”
That was a non-answer if he’d ever heard one, but Kole didn’t ask again. This was something that Raena didn’t want him knowing and there really were more important things at the moment. Like watching their reflections in the windows that they passed. “Five?!” Five was a lot, actually, and Kole really didn’t want to face them down. He wanted to just already be back in Camp. He had faith in Raena, but it was still a lot.
"Didn't you count them? Four boys and one girl. They're all weak." But Raena didn't mention that if she was facing them alone, it was her against five. "If a fight ensues, I'll make it quick."

Kole blinked, not entirely sure what trusting her had to do with him having to live, but willing to go along with it anyway. He let her pull him along, confused and more than a bit worried. “Who are these people, Raena? Why are they coming after us?” Kole was…actually a bit scared. Monsters were one thing, but people? People were another thing entirely and Kole didn’t like fighting them. People were scarier than monsters when they were the enemy. “But- Okay. But be careful, please. You have to come back to Camp, too.”
“Only me. They don’t like me.” Raena pretended to look at the back of her boots but she was actually checking behind them. No one following them so far. “I will. We`re both survivors, remember? Anyway, there was five of them. I think I can handle them with a few tricks.”
raena-andromedus‌:
Raena wasn`t able to finish her ice cream, but it really didn`t matter when Kole can be hurt in this situation. “Yeah? Let`s go.” She dropped some tip on the table and stood up. Her heart skipped a bit when the other group stood as well. Thankfully, Raena and Kole were nearer to the door. She casually put an arm over the boy`s shoulders. “Act normal. Do you trust me?” she whispered to him.
Kole blinked at her and then stood. He wasn’t entirely sure what was going on, but he was at least smart enough to follow her moves for now. He leaned against her when Raena put her arm around him and peered at her for a moment. “Of course.” He trusted her more than he trusted himself, which probably wasn’t saying much, but said just enough for him.
"Thanks, because you have to live, kid." Raena went to the door with Kole. As they came out, she locked the door with a tiny spell to buy them some time. She did it without looking back, pulling the younger demigod with her. "Listen," she started, hearing the door's lock jingle behind them as the rogue Romans were probably trying to get out. She didn't doubt that that action just further confirmed their suspicions that Raven was alive and conquering New York slowly. Raena kept walking, eyes darting around to watch for anything suspicious in case there were backups anywhere. "If we get seperated, you should get the hell back to Camp. Then look for my brothers and explain what happened. They have no idea, too, like you, but they can probably track me and help me kill those idiots, and I'll owe them big favours."
snowflaketragedy‌:
Kole shrugged again, fingers twiddling with his little spoon. He startled when she booped his nose and then he laughed, immediately a little cheered by the action. He gave her a toothy smile after. “Good.” He half wanted to look around because he was steadily becoming more unnerved, but all the same, he didn’t want to alert anyone of anything. Instead he finished off his ice cream and tipped the bowl to show her. “I’m done, I’m done.”
Raena wasn`t able to finish her ice cream, but it really didn`t matter when Kole can be hurt in this situation. “Yeah? Let`s go.” She dropped some tip on the table and stood up.
