Alright, so. Back before the main 6 had officially become the elements of harmony, when Celestial (Rareverse Celestia) hadn't decided that nuking every problem with the elements was plan one, and Lunar (Rareverse Luna) was still in the moon, they had a lot - and I mean a lot - of problems with other nations.
Celestial was absolutely traumatized after Lunar got banished to the moon because she didn't know that was going to happen. Because Star Swirl in dying breath said that the elements were the key to saving Lunar. And because of passed experience, Celestial thought they would work the way she want. News flash, they didn't.
So after that Celestia was on a 100% pacifist route in life. So when the kingdom of Victoria, aka the kingdom of literal vampires, came metaphorically knocking on her door being like 'Hey, we wanna do trade deals.' Celestial, in all her traumatized, fucked up literally every other cross species relationship, delirious self. Decided this was a great idea.
This is where Fleur de lis comes in. Before she became Fancy Pants' body guard, she was in the royal guard. Celestial sent her, a couple other guards, and a couple of diplomats over to Victoria for trade deals. (The reason Celestial didn't go herself was because she was afraid Equestria with basically implode without her, and she really didn't trust Cadence to rule while she was away)
It's safe to say Victoria did not intend on trade deals. The 'Royals' of Victoria imprisoned the group, using some as livestock, and questioning the other's: How many Rulers were there? How big was the army? How many ponies? Etc etc. During this time the Victoria 'Royals' were writing fake letters to Celestial, pretending to be one of the diplomats.
Eventually they got enough information to wage a full out war on Equestria. While most of the kingdom was fighting a war, one of the few surviving Guards had managed to slip out, releasing the other survivors, including Fleur de lis. How ever they didn't get to far before the remaining 'Royals' realized they had gotten out. And in the ensuing chaos and bloodshed, Fleur de lis managed to escape.
She wandered, surviving on scraps, for two years trying to find her way back to Equestria when she stumbled upon Vinyl. Vinyl had been kicked out of clan, and she'd had her fangs and tongue removed, basically making it extremely hard for her to hunt. Fleur de lis very reluctantly brought Vinyl along with her, figuring if worse comes to worse, she could use Vinyl as canon fodder.
They traveled together for a couple of weeks, and eventually Vinyls old clan stumbled upon them. Vinyls horn got snapped while trying to protect Fleur de lis. Just a few short hours later, Celestial showed.
Celestial decided she was very much done being a pacifist, after what Victoria had did, and decided to literally nuke the country. If she hadn't noticed Fleur de lis watching from cover, her and Vinyl would have died too. After everything was said and done, Fleur de lis had lied - well, wrote, because she had lost her ability to speak at this point - and told Celestial that Vinyl was a normal pony. And Celestial had let her stay, despite her suspicions.
Fleur de lis decided she had had enough of the army and retired, and became Fancy Pants' body guard instead. Vinyl and Fleur de lis are still friends to this day.
It's a little rough around the edges, but that's the basic idea lol.
