One of my art goals this year is to do more consistent practice and get better at working on exercises like value studies and perspective work as well as capturing likeness. So far I'm doing pretty well but I'm not exactly getting many finished or even post worthy pieces out of it which is fine because the goal is skill development.
Anyway here's a kitty value study done in permanent rose and dioxazine purple because why be boring when you can be pink.
I needed new coasters so I decided to paint some. They're inspired by the 4 suites in a deck of cards and I hope with a thick layer of mod podge they wont too beat up when I set my coffee on them
Couple of japan landscapes that I honestly dont know if I even like. Whateverrrrrrrr.
Kegon Falls in Nikko and the lotus plants at Uneo Zoo in Tokyo
It's my birthday :) so I decided to pick out my favorite pieces of my year. I'm surprised to see myself pursuing landscape painting but I'm very excited to work on more.
if i sold prints do i have any chance of selling any
One of my favorites to paint so far. Scene is a portion of tokyo bay near the rainbow bridge.
Edo Wonderland is such a fun place and it's so beautifully designed. This is my third painting of a piece of it because it was just a lovely place
Anyway this piece took me forever and made me want to rip my hair out but it was worth it I Guess
Been sick so I got behind on this painting challenge but im caught back up. Unfortunately catching up produced a couple of real duds that I wont be posting but I quite like this one
Travelling on the bullet train from Tokyo to Edo was such a lovely countryside tour. I regret not being able to spend more time outside the city
Im already behind on the October project ive assigned myself smh. Should have done 3 paintings last week and I only did one. Oh well! Maybe it'll take me through November for me to finish all of them but I will finish them. Its been such a long time since I've done a cohesive project of original art like this.
in the vein of all the october challenges inspired by inktober i'm going to paint my favorite landscape photos I took while traveling to Tokyo and Nikko, Japan. I had such a good time and I've really been liking doing landscapes in my sketchbook so I'm going to take it more seriously next month. I work 12 hour shifts and I don't have any energy after them so I'll just be making these works on my days off which reduces the number from 31 to 16-18 which is perfectly doable.
I'm always really inspired by people who are able to complete these challenges but for myself I feel like it needs to be a project with a theme and this recent trip has really provided me with that!
Somehow ive become a landscape painter. I'm having such a good time experimenting with different painting techniques and capturing these scenes lately. No idea what's gotten into me but I'm enjoying being a little more loose
Himi gouache in a canson mixed media sketchbook. Plein air exercises.
I wanted to try to design some Real Wizard Robes for Essek that he would wear for boring ceremonial court events. It just turns out that the best reference i have for robes is graduation regalia so hes giving a commencement speech i guess
Tumblr tells me that 8 years ago I started this little blog to keep all my art on. I already had a small amount of skill but I hope you can see improvement from the top two! Ive let go of a reliance on linework (though i will always love some crispy lines) and have a much deeper understanding of value. And of course I can hardly believe im still making critical role fan art but something about those goobers really lodged itself deep into my brain and I dont think ill be getting rid of them any time soon.
Top two: raishan (critrole) in watercolor, landscape in gouache
Middle landscape in gouache
Bottom: the green knight (dev patel) in oils, caleb widogast in gouache
It's been a while (been a while!) since I've done a pure watercolor piece so here's Essek done almost entirely in dioxazine purple. When he raised his fists like a cringefail loser instead of a wizard I was immediately smitten. Can't believe I'm obsessed with an elf smh.
Anyway, I'm having an excellent time with the new stuff coming out about the MN show and I hope everyone else is too!
It’s been an Excellent couple of days for annoying people (I’m annoying people). Shout out to my baby girl essek I can’t wait to see what crimes you can commit with the power of animation on your side
