Okay, I don’t think I’m really ready to talk about this movie but I have to. Sorry for eventual mistakes but I’m italian and it’s very hard to me.
Well, today I watched ‘Call Me By Your Name’ and, oh guys, this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve never thought I would’ve felt joy, tenderness, sadness, pain just watching a movie.
But, I wanna talk about specific things I really appreciate about this piece of art.
First of all, I want to talk about Timothée Chalamet ‘cause he’s so good, SO GOOD. Everything he does, he does perfectly. During the vision of the movie, I kept thinking ‘Timmy really seems like Elio’. And then I understood: Timothée Chalamet doesn’t seem like Elio, HE IS ELIO. He’s perfect, his acting is perfect, his body language is perfect. He just lets everyone empathize with him, no matter if we are homosexuals, bisexuals, heterosexuals or anything else. Elio embodies the pure concept of the love is love. No matter who you like; if it makes you feel something, it’s okay. Love is okay, pain is okay. You don’t need to push your feelings away because they are part of who you are. You don’t have to hide your pain. Actually, if you do, you deny the rest. Suffering is natural and we need to remember that sometimes, behind it, there’s much more.
I really appreciate Oliver’s care for Elio. He always wants to be sure it’s okay for Elio being part of this. And I really like that the moment they have sex is not sexualised at all. Not just because we can’t see the actual act. All I could feel was tenderness and, again, pure love.
Against all my expectations, one my favourite scenes is when Oliver wants to taste the famous peach (lol). Again, Timmy was amazing. We really see his tension through is body language and his eyes. Just amazing.
Of course, I want to say something about Armie too. I’m so sorry he doesn’t get the right attention because he’s great. He speaks with his eyes through which he expresses all his struggles to stay still but, we all know, love is stronger than any irrational force.
Luca was right: this movie is for families. Someone said that Elio’s family is idealized, too perfect. According to me, this is just like a family would have to be: caring and supportive.
I really hope people continue to watch ‘Call Me By Your Name’ because we can learn many things from it.
And now, I’m going to cry again. Love you.
