I want a “queer eye” spin-off where ecologists, urban planners, gardeners, socialists/anarchists/community organizers get together to ‘makeover’ outdoor spaces. The neighborhood that’s in a food desert? Build them a huge urban garden. The soybean farmer who was sued in to oblivion for not using Monsanto beans? Build him a wind farm and hook him into the local grid.  That local river that has been polluted for decades? They work with the local high school robots team to build a filtering robot. That rural town with no internet access? Build them a local, high-speed network. There would be a core group of organizers who work with locals, but they could also bring in specialists depending on the problem they were trying to solve. Can you image a show that treated local issues/civil activism the same way it does people in need of a ‘make over’??

Remember when you were a kid and you effortlessly made art and built stuff and decorated your room, without ever thinking that a professional could do that better, that you ought to leave it to someone more competent, that maybe you should buy a finished product instead, that the end result might look shitty so you’d better not even get started? I think i’m slowly but surely re-awakening that kid in me. Repair. Reuse. Create.

I just wanted to add that artists are valid and worth the money for genuine art that you love. However, this does stand true for generic mass produced stuff from the local department store and for not feeling good enough to create something that you want to make.

it strikes me that reputation and folklore are both written in lowercase and have black and white aesthetics. but while reputation was an album about taylor dealing with the reputation that the world had created for her, folklore is an album that’s about her creating her own stories, not only about herself but also about other people and things that she’s never personally experienced. it’s like reputation was the stories that the world told about her and who she was, and now she’s kind of turning it around and creating her own stories, her own folklore. in this essay i will—
