"I get sad when I'm hungry."
I Got Beef || Charity & Elissa
Elissa stared intently at the ginger woman before her as she attempted humor. Not wanting to seem rude or like she didnāt get the joke, Elissa laughed along with the woman. She continued to listen intently as the woman rambled on. If there was something she could agree with her, was the crime rate in the town. It was perhaps a little more than ordinary but given the townās history and the magnetic pull it has with the supernatural, sheād figure it was more than reasonable. Elissa stepped back to allow the woman to pass through, āGo right ahead maāam.ā
She would have continued on her way had the woman not mentioned the newspaper. A spark of interest arose in Elissa. There was only one top story that the entire town was talking about and that was the front page murder. Could this be it? The lead theyāve been waiting for? Since the discovery of the victim, everyone at the station had been waiting for something⦠anything, just to put an end to the nightmare.
Elissa followed the woman to the front where she was incessantly pressing the bell. āExcuse me miss, Iām officer Reid,ā Elissa introduced herself. āYou mentioned something about the newspaper. Can you elaborate on it?ā She asked, praying to herself that it was a lead to the recent murder and not something nonsensical.
Before pressing the bell again the lady from before interrupted her. Ms. Charity turned around smiling at the young lady. She nodded her head noticing she had an air of authority. Ms. Charity gasped at her question. Perhaps the newspaper thief had terrorized some good person. She frowned and bit her bottom lip. "Yes I know something about the newspaper..." she trailed off. Was this petty crime an epidemic? If so was there a danger to revealing the thief?
Sweat broke out and she wiped her forehead. Being a fairy did not make her immune to mortal emotions. Such as fear for her life. Yes, she was scared of the thief to come after her. Living in earth for more than a century had turned her into a fimp! She could very well enchant the thief and be done with it. But then she wouldn't have the nerve to confront her children, aka her kindergarten class, and teach them justice, and to be honest. She coughed, "I know who's responsible. I followed him once but then noticed I was going to be late for work so I turned back. I saw him. He was wearing a bathrobe and he had floppy ear bunny slippers. His hair it was nicely combed back."
Ms. Charity stared around her unsure if to proceed. She looked at the lady in front of her and shrugged, "It's not the first time he's done this. It's been going on for days I'm pretty sure he has them all buried in his backyard you know fertilizer."
....
Rude old man? Nosey old man? or concerned stranger?
I Got Beef || Charity & Elissa
Elissa twiddled the pen in her fingers as she stared off into an abyss of nothing. Albeit the station was vibrating from all the commotion, she still found herself contributing little to nothing with the apprehended delinquents at hand. She stood by the copy machine waiting for Mr. Hendricks, the resident handyman, to fix the jam. āDo you think maybe thereās.. uh.. something else stuck in there, eh?ā He asked. Elissa looked down to the crouched man below her, āI wouldnāt have a clue, just need my files good sir,ā she replied, cracking a smile.
She would have continued with the small talk had she not seen what seemed like a good woman conversing with a dangerous felon. āExcuse me,ā Elissa walked past Mr. Hendricks in an attempt to help the woman if indeed the man was harassing her. āHello maāam, may I help you with something?ā She asked.
Ms. Charity was about to crack a joke with the young man in handcuffs when a voice interrupted her. She turned around and came face to face with a young lady. She tucked her hair behind her ear and gave her a smile. "Hello ma'am oh I was just about tell the young man here a little joke. What do you call a fairy that chooses both sides of a decision? A contrary fairy," she chuckled, "a student told me this one yesterday... or was it the day before yesterday... I think it was last week, I'm not sure anymore. It's this awful weather it intervenes with my sense of time, its actually a miracle I haven't gotten suspended from school! Now if you'll excuse me I have to be on my way to pressing charges. You'd be surprise of the crime rate this small little town has reached! I have important clues to report."
She took out a lilac color handkerchief and wrinkled her nose with it she leaned in towards the young lady and whispered, "Its about the newspaper I know who it was."
Ms. Charity then walked up to the front desk and pressed on the bell. She hadn't noticed the many young men there were in handcuffs. What could possibly be attributed to such a fluctuation in delinquency? Lack of love at home or a lack of education or was it in the water? She pressed on the bell again.
I Got Beef || Charity & Elissa
Ms. Charity puffed her glossy strawberry hair and smiled into the rear-view mirror. After receiving a letter from The Whiteash Chronicle in regards to the value of the newspaper, in which it turned out to be free, and after much procrastinating she decided that the best course of action was to go, and press charges on the man. She had never done such a thing. In fact all of her life, as if in her whole hundred plus years, she had never meddled with authorities. She steered clear of having to ever deal with the police force. Ms. Charity could recall how back in 1972 she had suffered a home invasion, which was the closest she came to crime. The two masked men rummaged all over her humble little cottage in Liverpool as she poured tea for them. Something of the sort had never happened to her before which made it all the more amusing. She remembered how the following day she had seen one of the men in Hyde Park with his little family, it would have been an insult to her manners not to have say hello, so she did even commenting on how good her pearl necklace looked on the man's wife.
Ms. Charity got out of her car and went into the police department waving at everyone inside. She flared her nostrils inhaling the clean aroma of Clorox. She smiled politely at a man in handcuffs, "I hope they aren't too tight, I once got horrible abrasions on my wrists with an Abba concert ticket bracelet."
"I don't think the young woman that got killed has anything to do with the supernatural. Hey do you want to grab some lunch?"
"It does seem like a fairly normal murder - as normal as murder can become, anyway. Lunch? Iā¦sure. I donāt see why not."
"For the millionth time - I am not reading your autobiography! I get enough of you in real life, Tinker Bell."
"I wouldnāt know. I do my best to stay as far away from him as possible. Though Iām sure heās happy as can be with the entire pack on his heels. And he might as well be a coyote, honestly, because heās absolutely harmless."
"Not even if I sign it? Could be worth a lot of money some day in Ebay."
"You should make an effort to take an interest on how he is handling the pack Tamara. I wouldn't fancy your people thinking that you don't care for them. Corruption and greed are rampant in this world, you don't want this to be a "thing" among your people. Keep a close eye on him and his handling of the pack, who knows what you may find."
A voice spoke out from behind her, she turned around slowly it was a fellow fae, Emily who helped Mr. Blake out. She smiled at her, "Yes, kids enjoy reading this stuff. Something about humans with otherworldly abilities, no matter how evil they may be, captivates the imaginations of fragile mortal minds. Take for example all the superhero movies coming out, kids love them. I wonder if they'd love a superhero fairy just as much? Yes, I am very much a tiny winy bit of bitter about the lack of attention we receive in pop culture. Although there are certain books coming out that make a great deal of reference to fairies." She took out a book, "Just look at this title, 'How to cast a spell.' I highly doubt any actual witch wrote this." She put the book back on the shelf and looked at the stack of paperwork she had, "Do you enjoy work here? You know if you ever like you could volunteer at the school I teach we can always use a hand there and the kids love meeting new people."
...Among Books
Ms. Charity glanced at the antique clock on the wall it was close to noon. Being a Saturday she had nothing better to do than to pass the day in the bookstore her favorite place to be. She wondered if Mr. Blake had ordered The Brothers Grimm Complete Fairytale book she had asked about a week ago. The more she kept hunting for the book the more convinced she was that perhaps she should have sent him an email so that he'd be reminded to order the book. Her long fingers traced titles from 'r' to z' thinking that she should buy a couple of books for her class. She came upon a section that always amused her, supernatural genre. The shelves were almost empty, it seemed that all of Whiteash wanted to know more about the supernatural, even if it was fiction. She picked out a book based on a true story and snorted as she opened the book. It was an accurate account on the Salem witch trials of 1662. Ms. Charity wondered when someone would write a book based on a true story about the history of Avalon. It seemed highly unlikely anything from her home world would get published in this world. She supposed being a witch was more attractive than being a fairy. Wasn't a movie about a witch more interesting than one about a fairy? She snorted again as she closed the book, "Who would buy this stuff?"
"I don't think the young woman that got killed has anything to do with the supernatural. Hey do you want to grab some lunch?"
"It does seem like a fairly normal murder - as normal as murder can become, anyway. Lunch? Iā¦sure. I donāt see why not."
"Well, at least youād be famous around here. And that sort of murdering spree would be more interesting than the recent homicide. Oh, calm your feathers. Weāll save you before you turn into a big, bad monster."Ā
"Famous? Well you know I always did wish to be famous at some point that's the whole reason why I wrote my autobiography. I have a copy if you ever want to read it *wink*. I can just picture people with torches coming after me if I ever commit such a crime, its going to be 1901 all over again!"
"Hey how are things with your brother? I thought I saw him last night but after a closer look it was just your regular coyote."
"I don't think the young woman that got killed has anything to do with the supernatural. Hey do you want to grab some lunch?"
"It does seem like a fairly normal murder - as normal as murder can become, anyway. Lunch? Iā¦sure. I donāt see why not."
"Death is normal, well a natural process. Iām in the mood for some chicken how about you? or some burgers⦠or pizza⦠maybe some Chinese⦠can you tell Iām hungry? Iām literally drooling!"
"I could go for chicken or something light. We should probably feed you before you try to devour the town!"
"My tinker wings Tamara I won't go that far or I'd end up on the Whiteash Chronicle, 'Local Kindergarten Teacher devours Whiteash residents', I get my wings ruffle just hearing that."

......odd
"Who could the young woman be?" Ms. Charity asked herself setting The Whiteash Chronicle aside. "This doesn't scream supernatural," she shook her head.
