I was up in the North Woods of Wisconsin this weekend, found myself swarmed by ticks and all I could think as they dug their barbed, razor sharp chelicerae into my skin, glued their feeding mouthparts into place, spat their anticoagulants into my body and began feasting on my rich blood meal was, "Wow, what a magnificent creature."
Not to be immodest but I believe my reboot of Eragon vastly improves on the original.

Starring Bruce “groovy” Campbell, Stacy “Mike Hammer” Keach and Sean “?” Astin, Icebreaker brings all the thrill and action of Die Hard to a skiing holiday, but then forgets to unpack them and leaves them in a suitcase under the bed for the entire weekend. Directed by David Giancola, the producer of the Billy Ray Cyrus classic Radical Jack and the man who, as director, told the “actors” in Time Chasers how to “deliver” their “dialogue”, Icebreaker doesn’t exactly demand that the audience roll their eyes and snort derisively, but it doesn’t exactly not do that, either.
The plot, such as it is, involves the son of a ski resort janitor (Astin) whose fancy fiancee’s father (Keach) disapproves of, thereby giving half the cast something to pretend to care about while we’re waiting for something to actually happen. Things get interesting - or at least considerably less boring - when a gang of criminals led by Bruce Campbell invade the resort in order to retrieve the, I don’t know, bunch of nuclear stuff, I guess, that they’ve dumped there or something like that. When the gang take all the vacationers in the ski resort hostage, it’s up to Sean Astin to man up and save the day. No, honestly.

I’ve probably said this a dozen times but that doesn’t mean it’s not accurate: this is one of my favorite movies we’ve ever done. An ogre presumably eats a puppy, Santa is abducted by AK-47 toting African warlords, and most memorably, a school custodian whips a giant hunk of window glazing putty at the face of an innocent child and moments later threatens to kill him.
In other words it’s a perfect Christmas movie! (Did I mention it is peppered with synthy Euro-pop?!)
God, I hope the world ends before that new Star War comes out. The big laugh I'd get out of it, before my lungs were consumed by apocalyptic fire, would TOTALLY be worth it!

Crazy theory about The Wizard
I put forth that the same group of three thugs who hang out in between the arcade cabinet and the pinball machine in a roadside diner who harassed Lincoln Hawk(s) son in Over The Top ARE THE SAME three thugs who hang out in between the arcade cabinet and the pinball machine in a roadside diner and harass the protagonists of The Wizard.
Over the Top came out in 1987. The Wizard in 1989. They’re the same kids. The only other explanation is that for two years, there was an epidemic of Three Kid Gangs hanging out in our nations roadside diners and harassing people in the specific part of the diner where the arcade cabinet was next to the pinball machine. And obviously that is insane.
Need more proof? In Over the Top the three thugs are credited as Big Boy, Second Boy, and Third Boy. But give them a couple years and they’ve aged to their roles in The Wizard: Tough Teen #1, #2, and #3.
But the icing on the cake comes later in the movie. Haley (Jenny Lewis) has spoken fondly of the “Trucker’s code” that her father and his fellow haulers subscribe to. And who, pray tell, is her friend Spanky driving for?
None other than Hawk(s) Hauling, Lincoln’s company, which two years after the Double Elimination tournament, is evidently well enough to hire contractors.
OK, it’s probably just a huge coincidence. But it’s at least more plausible than the dorky kid just happening to find the Warp Whistle, right?
This is crazy, mind-blowing stuff!

By far one of my recent favorite shorts. All my childhood fears wrapped up in one browbeating lesson if practical math, slipped into a leotard and garnished with unctuous dairy products. Enjoy INCREMENTALLY.
We recorded the RiffTrax of The Wizard today. Not a great movie, but my favorite Tobey Maguire performance ever.
Just because people have been curious: No, I’m not involved in the Mystery Science Theater 3000 reboot. And I know I risk being insufferable with this stuff, so please, please skip if you're not interested in the sausage making.
I loved my time at MST, but I was in essence a hired gun. The brand does not belong to me, and I make and have made (almost) zero dollars off it since it stopped production in 1999.
But HAPPILY -- I've spent nine years putting all my energies into RiffTrax (we now have created more tracks than we did in our time at MST!) and we have tons of exciting stuff coming up, including more live shows, more feature length stuff (including one of the finest films to ever feature an NES Power Glove), shorts, etc., etc.
As a fan of riffing of all kinds I'm glad there's going to be more out there, but just wanted to give a fuller picture of why I'm not involved.
Let me just close by saying how enormously grateful I am to be able to continue to work at something I love. So, thank you, all.
