Maxime and Rowen, 26 and 23 years old Long-distance lovers From 3243 km to 13399 km, he was living in Montreal, Canada, and she was travelling from London, UK, to Bangkok, Thailand. Hologram piece, English and French

Maxime and Rowen had a wonderful and complicated relationship. Twice they tried long-distance relationships and both times they failed. They are friends now. This hologram piece is based on the first time they were in a long-distance relationship. She was 18 and he was 22 at the time. Maxime stayed in Montreal, and Rowen was travelling for 6 months from London to Bangkok, Thailand. The hologram presents a selection of their actual Facebook conversations.

Iktsuarpok (Inuit): The feeling of anticipation that leads you to keep looking outside to see if anyone is coming and the frustration of waiting for someone to turn up.

This project was created in the context of the Sustainability Action Fund + Place to B residency.

A love story between a human and an AI, told by the AI.

I.R.L a love story is a piece to make the viewer experience a monologue from this fictive being, and make the viewer question the boundaries between what is real or not. Using a real filmed performance, and editied it into the digital space, the character is ambiguous, it exist in this simulated version of physicality, which is an analogue hologram system based on reflection. The woman is sharing us her experience of love. She is conflicted with her own existence, yet limited by her programming.

Inspired by Ex-Machina, Her, and the phenomenon Invisible Girlfriend.
