I thought I would share this little thing I wrote a few weeks ago :) It makes me cry LMAO
6 year old me would have looked around in awe.
She would have looked at my yellow walls and smiled.
She’d see my loft bed. Just like she’d always dreamt of.
She would touch the paper hearts on my mirror made by her first kiss. “Who made these?” She would ask.
“Your friend, my love.” I would tell her.
Soon she’d see my ipad and draw a picture on it. She would see my phone. She would gaze at my computer and beam at the new sims packs.
“Can I play?” She would ask.
“In time, my love.” I would tell her
She would look at the picture of our niece. And the pictures of our friends. The collar of her first cat. “I want to meet them.” She would say.
“You’ll meet them someday, my love.” I would rub her shoulder.
She’d look at the sewing machine. And the box full of crochet supplies. The cases full of pencils. Then she’d strum my out of tune guitar. “We can play guitar?” She would ask.
“No, my love. We don't have the patience.” I’d laugh.
Her eyes would well up with tears as she saw a picture of our dog. The only thing I have left of him. “But he would never die.” She would say.
“I know, my love.” I’d give her a hug and tell her everything would be ok.
But I wouldn't tell her about the big feelings she’d have to hide in the yellow walls. And in the loft bed. And in the hearts on the mirror.
I wouldn't tell her about how much she would hurt when we moved into this room. A façade of happiness that hid such darkness. But I would tell her “it will be okay, my love. Everything will fall into place.” Even if I don't believe it.
I wonder how I will feel looking at my room in 10 years. If I will gaze in wonder and see pictures of my new friends and pets. How my heart will melt as I see a picture of my future lover. How I will see things I can only dream of at the moment.
I wonder if future me will hold back how much pain I’ll endure. How I’ll have to hide my big feelings in my new walls, and my new bed, and my new mirror.
But I hope he will hug me and tell me “It will be okay, my love. Everything will fall into place.” And I hope we’ll both believe it.
